@CyberSetan, it's great to see the whole list of IPTS med schools on your Page 1 of this forum. It would be helpful also to include where the clinical schools of each IPTS will be during the clinical year attachment. Some colleges are situated in a nice piece of land in Klang Valley, but the last 3 clinical years are spent in places like Terengganu, Lahad Datu, Sempornoa etc... So I think it would be great if the students would know where they are going, after their pre-clinical phase.

Hi, first of all i would like to thank you for your info provided on this thread. it is a good read for all future med students.

i have a science degree and im interested in pursuing meds. the first med school i looked into was Perdana/PUGSOM. because they offer a 4 year programme which is the fastest considering my age. but from this thread i see that some of the forumers are doubting the quality of the students produced by PUGSOM. did you have any past experience with PUGSOM students?

then i started to look into other options. So I'm looking into IMU, PMC and Monash too. Which of these in your opinion will produce the competent doctor? better in terms of the teaching quality the curriculum?

hope you can give me some insight on these matters.

thanks you.

How old are you now? I started medical school at 25y.o after my BSc.Biomedicine.

Very well... unless you haven't noticed... Perdana Uni Graduate entry medical program will cost RM1MILLION for tuition fee only...

Unless you manage to get govt. scholarship or you are willing to fork out that much money for the program, I suggest you forget about PUGSOM.

If you are unwilling to go through the 5-6 years of undergraduate medical program, there are many 4 years graduate entry medical programs abroad (eg; UK, Australia, US, EU).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_schoo...e_United_States
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graduate_Medical_Program

I know of 1 graduate entry medical program in Poland where my collegues from BSc.Biomedicine program went to study:

http://2wl.wum.edu.pl/en/admissions-inform...-degree-program

All of them have graduated and currently practicing in Malaysia (see below, type 'Warsaw' in 'Graduated from' space'):

http://mmc.gov.my/v1/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=50

The program will cost almost RM400k for the entire 4 years duration...

If cost of study is a major hinderance and if you don't mind practicing in Malaysia only, I suggest you take the traditional 5-6 years program instead, it will cost you between RM100k-RM400k... depending on which university you chose...

You must also check with MMC on the accreditation of the medical programs: http://mmc.gov.my/v1/docs/Jadual%20Kedua%2...%2020131115.pdf

as well as the minimum entry requirement set by MMC: http://mmc.gov.my/v1/docs/Min_Entry_Requir...d_30.7.2013.pdf

With that amount of money, may as well go to UK. If you don't go to London, may even have some spare left.

there are actually quite a lot of people with that kind of money (including jpa scholars, in the past), but unfortunately, you cannot buy a medical degree in the uk.... they cannot get a place on merit....

hence the demand for places in ipts and the likes of russia, indonesia, egypt etc.....

You saying our JPA scholarship has such low quality to not able to enter UK uni based on merit? Or was it because their Pre-U education given to them were of such low quality that they can't get sufficient merit?

there are lots of jpa scholars who flunk exams (there was a recent thread [https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3123978] on this here)....and lots of jpa scholars 'did not fly'.....their code for not making the cut to gain entry into the programme of their scholarship, usually critical courses in uk and oz....

we have created a new meaning for the word 'scholars'.....

Just goes to prove what everybody already knew, our selection of scholar is highly flawed like many things in this country. Malaysia could have been one of the great success story of the world but so much wasted opportunities and resources. Such a pity.

truth is so obvious yet they still ponder why those who are skilled and talented are leaving the country. The selection criteria has always been flawed since long time ago. I've heard people getting JPA scholarship to do medicine in UK (of course pre-U first) with just 2As in their SPM.

Hi, I am 25 this year.

For PUGSOM, i have 2 friends who got in and successfully applied and received JPA scholarship. and so far the statistics show that almost all malaysian who enter PUGSOM managed to get JPA scholarship.

Ya i will look into both the local programs and the graduate entry program overseas.

What makes PUGSOM so special that they can get JPA scholarship?

You are required to sit but the scores doesn't really matter as a criteria for admission. As long as you are straight As or slightly lower in your pre-u, you will be ok.

JPA scholarship is actually available for students studying in local gov universities. It is called Biasiswa Program Ijazah dalam Negara (PIDN). I think some private uni also offer JPA to their students.

As for why PUGSOM students can apply for jpa, i believe the reasons maybe political. As you know the fees is 1mil, i guess not many can afford to study there without any sponsorship or loan. sweat.gif

politics....otherwise, the uni will have collapsed long ago from no enrolment....

it is one of many means of shifting taxpayers money into private pockets...

if it is monash clayton, everything....as interview selection is based on very high umat/isat scores....

if it is monash sunway, nothing....as you have to pay money and sit for it, but it is completely ignored in selection...

I didn't know that. I thought they only, almost exclusively anyway, given to SPM students and not after you gotten into university. Except may be you got into Cambridge or Harvard or something like that.

That's more like it. I find it very hard to believe UK university will accept medical student with only 2 As in A-Level or STPM. Not unless you are a Saudi prince or with great political connection or something usual.
