That is why you have to be early to get it... 5 times I tried and see the queue so long I give up... have to come 5:00pm onwards then can get a table... never in my life eat dinner so early...

Personally, i feel wanted to go to Japanese rural idea instead of just focusing on metropolitan area alone....in this case, JR Rail Pass may help my trip a lot...

Kodama travels shorter, so a person may need to change trains at the same journey range....for example, on Tokaido Shinkansen (Tokyo-Shin Osaka), but Kodama normally travels part of the journey like Shizuoka- Shin Osaka or Tokyo - Nagoya...
Hikari and Nozomi travels at the same range on a trip......Tokyo - Shin Osaka (Tokaido Shinkansen) or Shin Osaka - Hakata (Sanyo Shinkansen)..........but Nozomi trains have through service along Tokaido + Sanyo..............
Tokaido Shinkansen = JR Central Sanyo Shinkansen = JR West
