Err....pardon my ignorance. Does that mean that only iphone with baseband 02.28.00 can be unlocked? Mine is 02.08.01, so it can't be unlocked?
*
I think what the pwnage team means now is that, older version can update to 2.2 with the latest baseband and still be able to use the unlock.

I think by tomorrow, we should see a repo for the unlock. But hopefully they also release a more detailed guideline. Cause they had always asked not to update the baseband. Then now suddenly latest baseband can be unlocked.

Don't eat yellowsn0w!

Hello all,

We wish you a very happy 2009!

We are about to release the unlock application, and we have some information that you will need.

    * The unlock application (that we are about to release) works exclusively with baseband 02.28. This baseband update is provided by the latest firmware update (2.2) from Apple, you’ll need to upgrade to this release using iTunes and then use QuickPwn to activate etc, there are plenty of tutorials about this.
    * The application is a small daemon that is launched on boot and also whenever there is a baseband reset, you won’t know anything about it (apart from the use of the third-party SIM) it is small and unobtrusive, there is no GUI, this is by design, you can ignore it.
    * You can add the application using the sources outlined below (coming soon), there are Cydia and Installer sources available, use whichever you are comfortable using.
    * There is a known issue with SIM cards that have STK (SIM Toolkit) application menus, these menus are usually items such as “top up” “get credit” etc. These menu items confuse the application sometimes, removing and reinserting the SIM fixes this issue.
    * The application is version 0.9, this is considered beta software, you use it at your own risk. You know the score.
    * The application is released on a non-commerical basis, do not accept pirates and scummy rip offs of this software. We license this software for single use and in a non-commerical environment (meaning you can’t charge for it). The techniques and methods used are not to be used by third party companies. We are watching you Jody, we won’t be so forgiving this time.
    * Direct linking to the repository URLs is prohibited, please only link to this post. We will be checking referers.
    * Happy 2009 and enjoy!

Gosh... it's unfortunate that some might work some can't work.

Looks like I will "try" and be patient and wait for a better release.

Someone should create a poll on whether their telco/carrier can work without any problems with yellowsn0w. or with any drop calls or not.

I saw this comment on the pwnage blog.

FOR ALL T-MOBILE UK, O2 UK and VODAFONE UK CUSTOMERS - THE MOBILE TERMINAL FIX WORKS - NO LOSS OF SERVICE.

THIS WORKS EVERY TIME

Simply follow the instructions already given here after installing Yellowsn0w.

Install Mobile Terminal through the Cydia (listed near the bottom of the Featured Packages section)

Install SBsettings (also in Featured Packages). For those that don't know SBsettings is a quick-access settings menu which doesn't require the closure of running apps to turn on/off features such as Wifi and Airplane Mode. Swipe the finger horizontally across the very top of the screen to open SBsettings and ensure that the Airplane toggle switch is there. If it isn't go to MORE, and change the toggle to ON.

REBOOT

Go straight to the Terminal icon and open it up:

type yellowsn0w -c

HIT RETURN and wait until the terminal allows you to input more text

Type yellowsn0w -q

Hit RETURN and WAIT TWENTY SECONDS

open sbsettings with a fingerswipe and hit the Airplane toggle switch

WAIT TEN SECONDS

hit the toggle switch again to switch the radio back on

The phone will now display 'SEARCHING' and very soon a signal will appear.

I have tested this with outgoing calls, incoming calls and ingoing/outgoing SMS with no problems. This fix works whether 3G is activated or not and all 3g services work once APN settings are input.

Thank you so much to whoever came up with this fix, and thank you dev team, I'm sure you'll have a flawless app ready for us in no time

I wonder if this would solve the problem if signal dropping for some. Sounds like it might just be the solution.

As of now... it's 0.9.4 beta

There is a known issue with SIM cards that have STK (SIM Toolkit) application menus.  These menus are usually items such as “top up” “get credit” “lotto numbers” etc. These menu items confuse the application sometimes.  Removing and reinserting the SIM once after reboot (give it about 10 secs 60 seconds (with v0.9.1) after you see the slide to unlock widget) fixes this issue.  We’re working on a better fix.  Update: version 0.9.4 fixes this for many (but probably not all) users who previously had to wait a minute and then replug the sim.

Method #1 (props to reda92 at youtube)
Quote:
1. Install yellowsn0w thru cydia, keep your Third-Party Sim in the iphone
2. Reset Network Setting "Most important" 99% success rate will depend on this. (LF: you can find this in settings - general and to the bottom you'll see a "reset" menu in which you can find this)
3. Reboot your inphone
4. Wait a little over a min.
5. Remove your sim card and re-insert it back in
6. Wait 30 sec.
7. Turn on Airplane mode and wait 10 sec. "This is important as well"
8. Turn of Airplane mode, you should see "searching" start smiling T-Mobile carrier will start appearing.
9. Start make call!
a slightly different method for this worked for me the 2nd time.
differences were: I had everything like 3G, edge, wifi, and ssh off through sbsettings, I didn't pop out my sim, and at step 4 I didn't unlock the unlock screen but let it wait at it for 1-2 minutes

Method #2 Another and props to admin at mobiletechaddicts site:

Ok I followed the instruction given and I could not
admin | January 1, 2009

Ok I followed the instruction given and I could not get it to work, then I followed these instructions and everything worked perfectly and my iPhone 3G was running on vodafone, no signal drops, perfect, so if you are having problems follow this procedure:-

1. Download and install BossPrefs and Yellowsn0w via Cydia
2. Disable all Functions with BossPrefs (don´t worry if you can´t disable EDGE)
3. Reboot your Phone with BossPrefs (not in the normally way - important !)
4. Wait 1.30 min when you see the Lockscreen
5. Take out your Sim and insert it.
6. Wait a moment
7. Go on Settings and Turn on the flight mode
8. Turn off Flight Mode
9. All should now be unlocked
Basically another variation of the above method.

Method #3: (props to a user at the devteam blog comments)
Quote:
Please try out this :
1. Download and install BossPrefs and Yellowsn0w via Cydia
2. Disable all Functions with BossPrefs (don´t worry if you can´t disable EDGE)
3. Reboot ypur Phone with BossPrefs (not in the normally way - important !)
4. Wait 1.30 min when you see the Lockscreen
5. Take out your Sim and insert it.
6. Wait a moment
7. Go on Settings and Turn on the fly mode
8. Turn off Fly Mode
9. take out t-mobile sims
10.put in at&t sims for 1minute
11. take out AT&T sims card
12. put in T-mobile Sims
13. USA t-mobile are you HAPPY !!!!

last, method #4 for now (props to Deli_gt at hackint0sh):

Quote:
f done exactly as told it works for most of the user.

1. recover your iphone to 2.2 with bb 2.28.00 affter ready close itunes dont sync, activate or nothing just close it!!!

2. quickpwn it with installer and cydia installed

3. when phone is ready connect to wifi, got to cydia, when opend for the first time ignore the update for cydia
and install first mobileterminal and affter sbsettings from cydia.

4. turn off data roaming and 3g connection from settings !!!!!

5. install yellowsn0w from installer affter adding the source yellowsn0w.com offcource

5. slide ur finger from top left to right on the screen to get sbsettings open

6. press power button from sbsettings and from the popup restart button.

7. when phone is reset wait for 20-30 secs and go to mobile terminal

8.
Go to terminal
type yellowsn0w -c
type yellowsn0w -q
airplane mode on
airplane mode off

if you get "open: Recource busy" just repeat the command where you got it from.
if command yellowsn0w -q keeps loading for more than 20sec and your terminal looks similar to pics from Flickr: deli_gt's Photostream move to next step.

9. Go to setting turn airplane mode on wait 10 secs and it should start searching for the network, it shold find the network and everything should be ok.

If not
if it still show the four dots for the signal repeat the steps 8 and 9 but first exit mobile terminal totaly by holding down the home button until it closes totaly
if that doesnt work eather use
compination

go to terminal
type yellowsn0w -c
type yellowsn0w -r
type yellowsn0w -q
airplane mode on
airplane mode off .

That's how you get it working for 99% sure. i tried it in 3 diferent iphones one from finland one from germany and one from UK. UK and german wasnt workin in the first.
Until now many has goten it to work only by this method.

UPDATE.
I can confirm I got it allso to work with out sbsettings reset, just usual phone on and phone off.

UPDATE.
So only thing you have to actualy do is to install yellowsn0w from installer not from cydia. And after every time the phone boots wait 30 secs and make the commands with mobile terminal(step 8)-> and airplane on off, if doesnt work repeat the step 8 and again airplane on off.

UPDATE.
If you lose network use this compination and you'll get network back without reseting the phone

go to terminal
type yellowsn0w -c
type yellowsn0w -r
type yellowsn0w -q
airplane mode on
airplane mode off

Otherwise, its good if we can list down the NAMES of the people who have managed to unlock it and those who don't. At least, we will get to know these people and asked them their experience.
*
Also make sure the Telco/Carrier is included.

Should we report to dev-Team found of no.2 Jody?

No point. They can't really do anything about it.

They can charge for providing the "service and support". They can claim they are not charging for the unlocking software itself.
