When I first got the iPod Touch, I was curious and tried Skype with my friend. I was like saying hello repeatedly and I looked crazy in the cafe talking to the gadget hoping that there will be a built-in mic. laugh.gif
*
Well at least on-lookers might think it's just bad reception with an iPhone laugh.gif

I thought the iPhone's earphones jack is on top of the device instead of at the bottom ? hmm.gif
*
Is it? I have no idea laugh.gif I'm a super newbie to Apple products. Then again, a random bunch at a cafe probably won't notice that much la laugh.gif If I saw some guy talking into a Touch I would just think it's an iPhone blush.gif

At first glance it wouldn't be noticed I guess. I'm planning to get a mic too for the iPod Touch but still scouting around at the moment. smile.gif
*
Do share when you get yours. It should be a pretty darn good addition to the Touch, might get it after I fulfill my other desires laugh.gif

My only concern is the battery life since it will have to run on a WiFi network to connect to Skype, it is sure to drain a lot of battery power. sweat.gif

Should be since I myself using the WiFi for web surfing is already draining the battery power like nobody's business. sweat.gif
*
Woah, seriously? Was expecting it to have a decent running time with WiFi.

Damn, temptations to get the Touch out laugh.gif Gotta..resist..till..Friday sweat.gif

Lasted about 2-3 hours if I remember correctly, can't really recall but to me it was kinda short. Using 1/4 brightness as well.
*
2-3 hours huh.. Thanks for the info! I guess that's still acceptable for me. Better to use my notebook for long hours of web surfing laugh.gif Though a little bit more extra time would definitely be great. Ah well smile.gif

For some reading and simple replies, the iPod Touch is great with it's Safari browser. biggrin.gif
*
Damn! I might actually get addicted to it for use in school. Now 2-3 hours is definitely not enough!! sweat.gif

I use it in college when it gets too bored since there's Facebook, MSN, Skype etc. tongue.gif

Now I understand why you complain it to having a short battery up-time laugh.gif Darn, it'll be drained in just one class of Malaysian Studies sweat.gif

Malaysian Studies ? WiFi + music and sometimes a bit of casual gaming with it. biggrin.gif

I have 2+1 hours class of it on every Tuesday. The battery ain't gonna last! sweat.gif

Btw, is there a list of must-have apps for starters?

Not really, just choose those you like or you may try those top rated ones.
I just plug in the earphones on one side of my ear so I could listen to the lecturer with the other ear. biggrin.gif
*
Ah, I see. Many things to learn..hmm laugh.gif

QUOTE(Vortrack @ Jan 26 2009, 10:54 PM)
Hmm, listening songs only or play games/use apps as well?
*
Well depends on the lecturer. I'm gonna have a different lecturer after CNY for god-knows-what reason. If still stick to the current lecturer, definitely multitask laugh.gif

Sometimes I really do take down notes with the iPod Touch if it is a short one that doesn't really require me to write it down. biggrin.gif
*
Some lecturers mind very much though. I remember once when a new student came in for our American History class, she was taking notes with a..uh, something like those kind of small digital dictionaries, kena scolded by the lecturer like hell sweat.gif

QUOTE(Vortrack @ Jan 26 2009, 11:15 PM)
I was thinking if the lecturer ever sees you using iPod, turn on the calculator app laugh.gif . So they wont complain much.
*
Only applies for mathematics classes laugh.gif

Oh and, do apps take up a lot of storage space? Since mine is the smallest one, 8GB, wondering if it'll get filled up very fast.

Edit: Typo

Ah, that's good to know. Plenty of space for audio files then thumbup.gif Don't think I'll be going through the trouble to convert my avi/mkv files to mp4.

I converted my mp3 files to AAC format in 128kbps as the sound was very similar to a high quality mp3 file, it saves space and playing a 128kbps file also consumes less battery power. biggrin.gif
*
Oh, didn't know lower bit rate consumes less battery. What program do you use to do the conversion? Does it take a long time for the conversion to finish? Though I probably would only take this sorta measures when I'm running out of space, or if it makes a big difference for the battery consumption.
