I recently formatted my PC and having 4 GB of RAM, my programs load the moment I click on them. Well, that was before I reinstall my antivirus but after I installed it, all programs took a while to load (some programs took over 10 secs to load). Appreciate all comments and help. TQ

Yeah I did and the programs load significantly faster. Is there a way to bypass all those scans?

QUOTE(darkvamp86 @ Dec 25 2008, 09:43 PM) Techno, I tried disabling the scan and guess what, it also turns off my antivirus completely...sigh...I ran out of ideas already.... I guess you can't have it both ways. When bitdefender is in action, it scans EVERYTHING, loading, copying, moving, creating ... and that of course would slow down everything. If you decide to disable the real-time scan, then, bitdefender just sits there waiting for you to call it to act. |

QUOTE(TechnoDude94 @ Dec 25 2008, 10:41 PM) Yes, I know that disabling the scan will turb off your antivirus but my question is, does it enhance your PC's performance? Yep turning the protection off speeds up the load.@convivencia : Yeah, that's the main con about BD...I was thinking of changing to Kaspersky after the license expires. Does Kaspersky slows down the system as bad as BD? |

The year-2009 versions of Norton have really changed. They use little system resource and have few false-positives.@convivencia : Yeah, that's the main con about BD...I was thinking of changing to Kaspersky after the license expires. I heard that Norton literally "eats" your system memory a lot...far worse than BD...

QUOTE(darkvamp86 @ Dec 26 2008, 03:06 PM) Haha yeah I've 43 processes running but I can't seem to know why there are 6 svchost.exe running simultaneously... The Svchost.exe file is located in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services part of the registry to construct a list of services that it must load. Multiple instances of Svchost.exe can run at the same time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services. Therefore, separate services can run, depending on how and where Svchost.exe is started. This grouping of services allows for better control and easier debugging. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Svchost.exe groups are identified in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Svchost Each value under this key represents a separate Svchost group and appears as a separate instance when you are viewing active processes. Each value is a REG_MULTI_SZ value and contains the services that run under that Svchost group. Each Svchost group can contain one or more service names that are extracted from the following registry key, whose Parameters key contains a ServiceDLL value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Service To view the list of services that are running in Svchost: 1. Click Start on the Windows taskbar, and then click Run. 2. In the Open box, type CMD, and then press ENTER. 3. Type Tasklist /SVC, and then press ENTER. Tasklist displays a list of active processes. The /SVC switch shows the list of active services in each process. For more information about a process, type the following command, and then press ENTER: Tasklist /FI "PID eq processID" (with the quotation marks) |
