I recently formatted my PC and having 4 GB of RAM, my programs load the moment I click on them. Well, that was before I reinstall my antivirus but after I installed it, all programs took a while to load (some programs took over 10 secs to load). Appreciate all comments and help. TQ biggrin.gif

Yeah I did and the programs load significantly faster. Is there a way to bypass all those scans?

There's a method to bypass all those scans but you'll have to search for and disable "Auto-Protect/Live-Protect/Real-time Protection".

Yes, I know that disabling the scan will turb off your antivirus but my question is, does it enhance your PC's performance?

I guess you can't have it both ways.

When bitdefender is in action, it scans EVERYTHING, loading, copying, moving, creating ... and that of course would slow down everything.

If you decide to disable the real-time scan, then, bitdefender just sits there waiting for you to call it to act.

Yep turning the protection off speeds up the load.

@convivencia : Yeah, that's the main con about BD...I was thinking of changing to Kaspersky after the license expires. Does Kaspersky slows down the system as bad as BD?

Urm, I'd definitely recommend that you try Kaspersky or maybe Norton. The year-2009 versions of Norton have really changed. They use little system resource and have few false-positives.

I heard that Norton literally "eats" your system memory a lot...far worse than BD...

Yes, you heard that very true but it you heard it A FEW YEARS AGO. Currently, NAV/NIS '09 are one of most little system resource AV/IS solutions after ESET's AV/IS solution.

K-sky is not as bad, but there's still some slowdown. Not so noticeable, but slowdown nevertheless.

Actually, most of our computers (I'm assuming that we're using more than 2GB of RAM, no offense icon_rolleyes.gif) should be able to run most AV programs even though with Vista. tongue.gif ESET, Kaspersky and Norton are currently the best AV performers out there according to a benchmark/comparison that was done by a certain private company.
