Newbie here (also potiential wannabe audiophile).
I'm planning on getting some entry level (relatively speaking of course) headphones to use along with a JVC surround sound adapter (I posted in the where to buy thread, mind posting some responses there?) for late night gaming/watching movies.
Now with all my limited experience, it seems that I can't really go wrong with a pair of Sennheiser HD555's. I'm a bit confused about the recommend price for them as a couple of shops I inquired have them priced at 600++ (or don't stock it at all) since some random googling lists them at about 500 or lower (amazons selling for as low as 90 US but i suppose that with shipping and taxes it should go to roughly 500?) What price should be a value buy for them?
Are they any other headphones that are equivalent or better in that price range (budget 500++)? I don't have a particular preference for any brand s'long as it works. Or would you recommending going 1 level higher for a pair of HD595's or equivalents?
Lastly, I'd like to ask where can I test the headphones first (I believe the audiophilic term for it is "auditoning"), I'm staying in PJ, but I can go anywhere reachable by public transport.
