Hmm, might consider them, just checked the price, very bang for buck headphone. Does anyone here own a ATH-AD300? Perhaps give some short reviews? And it's a Open Can circumaural headphone, like it.

Soap, borrow me your specs.

Hi fellow LYN,

I'm looking for a headphone for my guitar amp. I will be using the headphones most of the time to practice/jam, so for me, a headphone is somewhat a huge factor of sound quality.

Here's what i'm looking for in the headphone:

1. I need open headphones (i heard normally open cans are better than closed cans, sound wise), i have no idea to choose supra-aural or circumaural. What i can tell you is my ears are quite big. I need sound quality and comfort, those "forgetting that you're wearing them" type of comfort. Is there any open can circumaural headphones?
2. My budget is RM200-RM300.
3. Never own any headphones before. But would like to have one that is very comfortable and sounds good when i'm practicing with my guitar.
4. The real sound of the guitar doesn't have much difference with the sound in the headphones. In short, good quality. Example of bad quality, you plug into an amp and play some music, when you plug into your headphone, it sounds totally different from what you heard before, or it doesn't bring out the potential of your guitar, something like that.
5. I listen to Rock, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Instrumental etc.
6. I don't need noise isolation, therefore noise canceling is not for me.
7. I want the sound that's coming from the headphone to sound real and not dead/dull.

Other than ATH-AD300, any other open cans that have better quality?

I have a question here:
Is it true that the air ventilation in closed cans cirumaural headphones are not so good therefore making your ear easier to feel warm/sweat over a period of time.
In other case, is it true that open cans circumaural headphones doesn't have this problem?

do note that if you plug in any headphone the sound would be different from an amp no matter the price/brand.

however it doesnt mean that its a bad thing, its just a change in sound signature (think a change in amp) your tone might be different. i assume you are using it for practice so it wont be much of a problem.

I know it'll be different, but i want the difference to be as minimal as possible. Thanks.

Added on June 22, 2009, 11:34 amOk, i have revised my specs (it's Soap's spec actually, haha)

I'm looking for a headphone for my guitar amp. I will be using the headphones most of the time to jam alone, so for me, headphone is somewhat a huge factor of sound quality.

Here's what i'm looking for in the headphone:

1. Open/Closed can, doesn't matter, as long as it sounds good.
2. I have no idea to choose supra-aural or circumaural. What i can tell you is my ears are quite big. I need quality/comfort, those "forgetting that you're wearing them" type of comfort.
3. Leather padded headphones, portable (optional)
4. Comfortable for long periods of wear, doesn't clamp tight on your head, not too much pressure on your ears/head.
5. Budget is RM200-RM300.
6. Need clarity, detailed sound, so you can hear the background music clearly.
7. Sound of the guitar through the headphone have minimal difference with the sound through the amp.
8. I listen to Rock, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Instrumental etc.
9. I don't need noise isolation.
10. Studio monitoring headphones, for musicians/sound engineer to work with instruments.

I heard normally open cans sound better than closed cans, open cans sound more natural, can anyone justify on this?

Currently, I'm looking at:
Audio Technica ATH-SJ3
Audio Technica ATH-SJ5
Audio Technica M-35
Audio Technica M-50

Any Comments?

ahh what about the warranty then?

this might change my mind bout getting a +/- rm300 headphone n purchase a crossroad bijou instead first, n buy the m50 later on when i have extra..

Full warranty of course. Jaben is well known to the audio-slaves in JB/SG. They are the Pros when it comes to headphones.
