I may be the most prolific poster in this thread. As such, many of you are acquainted with my outfits.

What is the one thing I can do that I am not doing? Is there a direction I can go that I haven't explored?

Is it time for me to do a Rolex (I go watchless)? A different category of shoes, perhaps? Dare I say it --- bracelets? T-shirts instead of dress shirts?

You know I think a Rolex may be a good idea.

Added on June 7, 2011, 11:05 pmGetting myself a top notch canvas bag was a great idea BTW. I love the thing and everyone tells me "nice bag".

kotmj, I asked myself those same questions.  I used to put on a more dressy look, although not quite as styled as yours, but changed it dramatically.
Walau, dude, I want to look like you. But I'd have to die first then come back to do it. Because everyone around me would think I'm experiencing an early onset of mid-life crisis if I were to appear dressed like that one day. I'd also need a very different personality for such an outfit to have congruence with me.

Stripping it down to the fundamentals of business strategies, Uniqlo (and H&M etc), are cost leaders. They pass on cost savings to their customers.

The other selvedge denim makers specialize on what they do, thus trying to be product differentiators. Combined with pricing strategies and the industry norms and there you go.

This is business 101. For more in depth detailing on types of denim, denim weights, manufacturing style, heritage, advertising and general labour cost breakdown etc, please visit the specific thread smile.gif

Watches became too competitive. Like cars. People were pulling all the plugs on them. Big watches on small salaries.

If you wear a watch, you automatically enter the competition. People will judge you on the brand of watch you wear.

I prefer not to play.

There was a thread here that was emblematic of the problem. A young guy who has been working for 2 years and praised a bit too much by his boss came here wanting recommendations for a watch that would match his status as a premium "engineer". To show during meetings. It was distasteful.

Added on June 17, 2011, 11:20 pmnot to mention most watches today are vulgar.

Call them shoes. Kicks are what the sneaker kids wear.

I am dismayed you are wearing socks identical to mine.

Was seated next to a Bangladeshi-looking guy and saw his baller watch. He is a customer, and I spent the morning with all kinds of customer reps from Fortune 500 companies and they were all badly groomed, badly dressed, awkward young guys who cannot hold business conversations.

kotmj: So where are you from?

customer: a third world country not far from here

"Mahai," I was thinking to myself, "another exec from a microcompany based in the provincial backwaters of a third world country wearing a RM40k watch. Maybe I should dip into my sacred savings after all and give a boost to the Swiss economy."

kotmj: What do you do in your company?

customer: I'm the owner.

uniqlo pants?

your blazer's shoulders look lumpy.

loving the owner's shirt.

Stylophile, let me introduce you to Zuperpent. He was quite the celebrity on this forum a few years back when I found him neatly folded, new but unloved for RM7 at a secret shop. It is constructed like no other pants on this forum. From Japan. Linen blend.

all my suits are fine.

the owner's shirt is an abomination upon the earth. he wore a much better shirt during the day event.

Added on July 14, 2011, 1:00 amSome random facts:

I was the only Malaysian at the table.

The CEO wore an Aigner tie. He came dressed in a bespoke mid grey odd jacket with dark wool pants. After a while he took it off and draped it over his chair. This was the signal the others were waiting for and they all took off their jackets after that. Except me. (Mine is linen and half-lined so it is no discomfort. Not to mention the linen blend trousers.)

The customers were dressed more formally in the day. About half were suited, all from Commonwealth countries.

The CEO was suited in the day, then did this odd jacket ensemble at night. Both jackets were (very good) bespoke. Despite the international travel not a single wrinkle. He wore black tasseled loafers.

No one else wore his suit as well as the CEO (if you exclude me). The others look terrible in their suits, even senior vice presidents.

All the Singaporeans wore bespoke shirts. One has questionable taste in fabric and cut. Shirt was too shiny, and cut too close to the body. Generally the Singaporean shirts were cut all a bit too close to the body. Except for the star salesman, his shirt fit was excellent (looser) given his body (rotund). Business shirts should be looser. Star salesman has a pen pocket within his breast pocket for his Mont Blanc. But questionable taste in pattern.
