just out of curiosity, have you appeared on Malaysia Tatler before?
*
lol, no. although i have been featured in a few M'sian and S'porean magazines. I wouldn't mind sharing some photos (attention whore) although it's quite off-topic and I've been posting a lot of off-topic content lately.

The niece of the owner of the Padini Group is the heir to the Vincci company. She was featured in the Malaysian Tatler. Honestly, the first thing I thought was - wow, you really want that much attention?!
When I talked to her she said she was forced to do it for the sake of publicity and the company. Not sure how true that is.
Anyways, you can find her working at the KL store like a regular employee, short hair, stylish, and either wearing a Toywatch or a Panerai.

chino, not to derail from the topic here, are you by any chance an investment banker?
if you are maybe i've seen you before.
*
Loej, formerly in that industry. Worked for two bulge bracket firms, reaching Vice President designation. I was the youngest VP in my region.
But several years ago, a group of us could feel that the industry was about to collapse and so we parted our ways and did our own thing.

That led me to explore opportunities overseas, namely Malaysia and the Philippines. I also started a business in the states as well.

If you have any questions about iBanking, Private Equity, Investment and Fund Management, Private Wealth Management, Sales and Trading, Quantitative Analysis/Hedge Funds, Retail/Mutual Fund Sales, or even down to product level questions like Credit Default Swaps (CDS's), Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDO's), Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS's), Special Investment Vehicles (you get the idea), fixed income and equity investments, cash equivalents, etc., let me know. I am happy to answer all of them and used to frequent the investment forum here at LYN (among many others).

Thanks but there was nothing to shout about my outfit.

Actually I very much like that well fitted dotted white shirt, leather details on the wrist, good fitting pair of jeans and ballar shoes - probably because it's very similar to my own.

still...it is clear you have the money to spend on the finer things - and no shortage of it!

a lot of us can enjoy and learn from the many pics and posts you have contributed about these finer things (myself included).

btw, a watch does not mean we can get away with NOT dressing well. if anything a nice watch means you have to pay special attention to how you appear or risk the assumption of wearing a fake timepiece <--- even worse than wearing any watch at all

My outfits during my recent Bangkok trip:

To chatuchak market. It was humid, wet and slippery. Shorts, Ts and teva are the best combo. Only managed to procure some incense sticks for home.

To erawan, gaysorn and central chidlom. Procured a number of cotton handkerchieves by naraya. Had a nice yet affordable afternoon tea at erawan. Can't believe it was priced so reasonably.

To Siam paragon and Siam discovery area. Procured a fair bit of personal care products from boots and pochette silk pocket squares from jim thompson.

*
Nice. How was the trip? Incense, and pocket squares? Any good?

I manage to procure some interesting items from my last trip to Bangkok. Like this ashtray.

This is the time of the year where things get a bit confusing for my body.
Spending time in M'sia then heading out back to the states where it's around -11C where my mother lives and around 9C in Los Angeles.

Anyways, here's what keeps me warm.

Burberry Brit Arndale Military Jacket w/removable liner and hood (even a removable liner in the hood, and yes the hood comes off too).

Looks better on the model below than on me, but still a badass jacket.

Miss wearing winter clothings!
*
Thank you sir!

Winter always seems to allow us to express another side of fashion - scarves, gloves, hats/beanies, layers of clothing...

But, come Spring time I'm yearning for some flip flops and shorts (okay jk, I rarely do flip flops and shorts, maybe some jeans and a casual polo).

lulz u seem to be wearing thicker than me when I was in Seoul which was about -5 (feels like -15 due to wind though)

It was a bit cold in Taipei earlier this week, but I'll admit to being a tad overdressed. It warmed up and I was wearing a light sweater by the end of the week.

But if you're saying a jacket with dress shirt and scarf is thicker than what you were wearing in Seoul, then you must have some thick skin.
I'm here now and take a look at what the 아줌마 are wearing:

user posted image

All puffer jackets, with layers, scarves, and sometimes gloves/mittens.

Of course, if you're fashionable like my kgirl below:

user posted image

...then maybe you can do without the super thick jacket. But in the end it was too cold even for this fashion kongju and she went with a super thick puffer in the evening.

16 isn't too bad, but when it gets to single digits, starts getting chilly.

korea was regularly hitting 1-2 C and much lower with windchill.

Picked these up in Seoul. Ever since Shia Lebouf wore them in Wall St. 2, they've disappeared off of the shelves back in the states.

Hi All,

I haven't contributed much to this thread, I suppose it's hard to get a pic of myself without a mirror, and the only one big enough is in my room, where I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing shoes.

Anyways, I had someone else take this pic - sorry for the poor quality (iPad Mini).

Its not about expensive brands, its how you wear them. Im pretty sure if CHiNO730 were up for it, he can make pasar malam clothes look very stylish and expensive. (no offence to pasar malam clothes yeah. I myself buy them; Im a thrift hunter you see)
*
Thanks - I agree, it has nothing to do with the brand. I grew up in a poor family, but had a lot of wealthy friends around me - so naturally as I have become successful, I gravitate towards the brands I was never able to own.
I've posted pics of jackets that I bought in Taiwan for about 40 USD equivalent that I wear with more expensive clothes.

No matter where you go, what you do, someone will have more money - so it's no use to try and compete. The goal is to share your style and experience. Perhaps not all of us have the means to afford expensive stuff, so sometimes it's good to see what the sifu's are wearing. For me, it's something to aspire to.

I few years ago I met with two very wealthy and young businessmen in Penang. You may be familiar with them, their family's name appears on every Honda motorcycle sold in Malaysia.
We got into the conversation of cars. I had pulled up in the Audi TT S you see in my signature. I explained how it was imported from Japan and was the first one brought into Malaysia at the time through AFCAR - he pointed just outside to a red Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorana - he had paid over RM 2.2 million for it and it too was one of the first to be brought into M'sia.

So no matter where you go, someone will one-up you. Best to be content with what you have and enjoy and share.
