Seriously tho, I think it's more than cheap console. A unmodded US Wii can cost between RM1400-RM1600 locally, which all things considered, is not cheap. I believe that the Wii's success is in it's software and hardware line-up that appeals to pretty much everyone.
Also, I believe that the Wii has innovative and imaginative gameplay. Also, the Wii can play on one's nostalgia with the virtual console (I almost cried when I played Adventure Island again on VC for the first time in years after my last famiclone got fried. I loved that clone so much I didn't want to buy another, and I even tried to repair the clone from time to time). Sony also offers a similar service afaik, but their offering is only PS1 and PS2 games. Wii offers From NES to N64, plus Sega and Neo Geo systems to boot.
So yeah. My two cents.
