I'm using L'Eau D'Issey Intense right now. My only perfume. I find it a bit too happy and sweet for evening use. I'm looking for something more complex; darker, more sophisticated. For evening use. Preferably something I can buy from the forumer who sells perfumes. Johnny4, any suggestions?

I was in Pavilion once with a female friend and this pondan-like salesperson in front of Tangs went straight to me and asked, "Want to try some perfuuuumeeee? Here take this." He sprayed on Bulgari Black.

I was amazed by it, and wanted to grab a bottle, but checked myself by reminding myself that there were car service bills to be paid that month.

Maybe I should go get it.

Added on March 8, 2010, 12:40 amBut I remember it being a bit sweet. I am looking for something like this old YSL perfume that smells like urine and sweat mixed together. I forget the name.

Urine and sweat ? OMG Are you insane ? ! LOL just joking. That frag would most probably be YSL Kouros....the king ! Strong stuff this Kouros and lasts like no other frag. I used to own a 50ml bottle but I love it so much and upgraded to a 100ml bottle recently LOL. I think you are the only person on this whole thread that is actually looking for Kouros (except Joey-kun). A few guys have tested Kouros after i suggested it to them and all were literally scared by it. How did u come to know about Kouros ?
*
I read about it on some perfume site about it being "animalistic". It was the first time I heard of that word, so I became very curious to find out how animalistic smells like.

So when I found myself in Metrojaya, I asked them to spray me a strip. It was the strangest scent ever. It smelled of a) a man's crotch, or b) dirty sweaty sex. My lady friend disliked it.

It doesn't smell nice for sure. It smelled of raw alpha-maleness.

That sounds like Kouros alright. White opaque bottle right ? The only other YSL frags to have an animalic smell is YSL Pour Homme and YSL Pour Homme Haute Concentration.

It's a very polarizing scent and rarely I hear ppl saying it's so-so. It's either u hate it or love it.

It is extremely strong and intimidating for the 1st hour or so after spraying it on. As the scent develops it smells like a mix of raw honey, vanilla, incense and civet musk with a touch of jasmine. By the end of the day, Kouros really shines and that is my favourite part. I know it doesn't sell well here but I do hope they will continue to stock up on Kouros.

Girls just want a nice sweet scent on their boys you know? Nothing too aggressive. BTW my MD wore Kouros once when i standing next to him during a software demo.

I almost pulled the trigger on Bulgari Black just now. But damn, my focus this month is on bespoke shirts and trousers, not perfume.

It's based on empirical feedback from an admittedly limited group of girls in their 20s (of different nationalities).

Added on March 8, 2010, 7:42 pmAnyway, my next perfume (dark, sophisticated, complex) is for me, not for them. A way of exerting masculinity instead of pandering to female preferences (D. Coolwater).

I went to MJ BB to smell Lalique Encre Noire but they do not stock Lalique. A saleswoman there has never heard of it.

Went to Pavilion and bought, on a whim, a small bottle Kouros. It still smells weird, but maybe I'll warm up to it.

No offense, but aquatic frags are kinda boring after the first bottle. More so when Ahmad, Ali, and Ah Chong all smell alike. Clone army ftl.

Just came back from Isetan KLCC, got Paco Black XS Livesound Edition. Its the same as Black XS, but it comes with some bracelet. Looks good from the outside, but its some cheapo synth leather, definitely gonna tear after a few wears. Feel quite cheated, should've gotten the one with the shower gel instead. sad.gif Just a word of advice for potential Black XS buyers.
Don't get me wrong, Paco makes good perfume, but they're waaay too gimmicky. Paco One Million anyone? To me its just a milder version of Black XS, with a gimmicky gold bullion lookalike bottle.

Tested Kouros and M7 at Parkson, KLCC. kotmj was right, it DOES smell like urine. HAHA! jonny's favourite M7 is great for anyone who likes spicy perfumes. To me its just the right balance, not too overpowering unlike the Arabian Oud smell.

Oh and, Isetan > Parkson in terms of service. Way friendlier, and they actually took me seriously, unlike other places with sales reps giving me the "Dior? Meh, go get Adidas instead, boy" look.

Right out of the bottle, Kouros smells like my armpit, a scent I'm sure most people love.

But after a while, it becomes a nice inoffensive scent (reminds me of jasmine) that lasts forever. I would put on a shirt I wore 2 days ago and there is that scent, as nice as ever. Most perfumes smell bad after so long.

Two. It's not a like Issey Intense which actually requires 0.5 spray. Kouros is mild.

Can someone comment on the sillage and longevity of Issey Miyake L'eau Pour Homme?

I tried some just now, sprayed 2 sprays on my wrist. It smelled really good, but barely an hour later it seems to have disappeared.

I was very keen on buying this too, but it has been totally eclipsed by the L'eau D'Issey Intense, which is very concentrated and lasts for much longer. However, Intense is very bold, the original is more understated.

I was asked (last night) what sort of perfume I use.

"So-and-so said when she was in your office that there was a strong "lam yan mei" (masculine scent). What perfume do you use?"

"I cannot tell you. It's a secret. But I use two kinds of perfume."

"Tell lah. What did you use today?"

"I did not put anything on today."

"And normally?"

"Normally I use an extract from the testicles of bears."

"Can meh? But testicle juice very sticky, cannot spray."

Added on November 3, 2010, 7:54 pmIt was a girl, BTW. Quite OK but not hot enough.

Added on November 3, 2010, 8:02 pmI think from now on I will specialize in raw animalic scents.

i think 4711 is the more older scent and still popular until today. its the original eau de cologne made in the 19th century. used by the armies of WW2. my grandma use it, my mom, even me also use the modern version, Mugler Cologne. i still can found the bottle on display at some old indian barbershop.

This is still widely available in Germany. I really wanted to like it, but all it smells to me is citrus. It is not a sophisticated "designer" scent.

I'm sitting in a cafe right now enjoying the best cafe coffee in KL and incredible pastries and this stupid woman sat next to me and she reeks of cheap perfume and overpowering synthetic musk.
