because i'm happy i don't need to be like my friends playing out of tune instrument hurting their ears, for example, hitting on a C but in fact it's exactly semitone lower. They told me it feels like they're hitting the wrong notes all the time.

hmm i'm interested how perfect pitch musicians deal with transposed instrument, say, saxophones. hmm.gif

for example, alto sax:

read C, play C, but sound Eb (major 6th lower).

ok fine, got used to it. now, play tenor sax:

read C, play C, expected Eb, but sound Bb (major 9th lower). each sax produce different pitch on the same fingering (actually, only 2 types, either play C sounds Bb, or play C sounds Eb).

little ice...its not a prob for me...cos when i play a soprano sax...I already know what notes to press as I've prepared for my ears to expect to hear the correct concert pitch.

Meaning when I press a 'c' on the sopranosax....I already know its gonna sound a concert 'B flat'.

by the way, i've read some perfect pitch sax player actually transpose all the notation on the fly cause he cannot get rid of the concert pitch. sounds amazing... sweat.gif

not really. I play sax so I know how a perfect pitch musician feels when he plays a sax or brass instrument. It's not at all hard. Just a matter of practice. NOthing to it.

interesting. hmm.gif

but wouldn't it be hard to relate the notation with the concert pitch? i know most sax players play by ear, but not sure when it comes to notation reading.

however i found it to be true to almost all the pianist, they just can't stand playing piano that sound transposed. biggrin.gif
