I have a notebook that come with a Vista Bussiness and downgrade XP Professional setup.
Been using XP since 2002 and ite already been 6 years. Did try Vista earlier but it was too slow and laggy.
Few concern that I have with Vista.

1. Previously my vista lags running Divx with KLMCodec.
2. Notebook OS speed while running battery saving mode.
3. Compatibility issue with uTorrent and Limewire.
4. Speed in gaming as im using Gforce 9300.

My specs are, P9500, 4GB RAM, Gforce 9300, 250GB Hardisk.

urm... better than Vista Gold??? lol

seriously, MS has optimized Vista quite a lot with SP1...

but for wat u mention:

1) no problem with DivX files for me on Vista
2) CPU speed is limited in Battery Saving mode to save battery, u can adjust that in power options
3) has been using uTorrent since Day1 of me using Vista, no problem...
4) GeForce 9300 is not a paticularly fast card... dun expect too much from it... tune down the graphic settings and update drivers...

spec of my laptop is in my siggy...

bro, TS is asking for opinion on Vista SP1, not 7...

she already has a license for Vista Business, juz that she's unsure abt the performance of Vista SP1 as compared to Vista Gold...

Also called Vista RTM (Released to Manufacturing). Btw, for TS laptop specs, it should run his Vista Business smoothly with 4GB of RAM...

With that kind of spec, Vista would run beautifully. Just make sure you do a clean install, update chipset drivers (if necessary/available), update video and audio drivers (a must) and then fully update Vista via Windows Update.

Also, make sure its SP1 - Service Pack 1 enhances the Vista experience even more and sorts out minor bugs that had been bugging Vista users. However, results may vary (pre-SP1 / post-SP1 experience).

As for compatibility, get the latest software version. You're saying uTorrent is not compatible ? I use the latest version with 0% issues whatsoever.

Word of advice - do not run too many background apps / taskbar running apps. With 4Gb of memory, it should not be a problem.

1. I use Combined Community Codec Pack. 0% issues.
2. Its not a big deal as the performance using power saving mode is comparably the same.
3. Download and use the latest version. Should not have any issues as millions use these software.
4. GeForce 9300 - definitely meant for gaming, however, don't expect the ability to crank everything to max.

Answers to your questions according to number:
1. No, it won't lag if running updated versions of DivX and KLMCodec. nod.gif
2. You can set your power options to allow your notebook to decrease power usage in Control Panel.
3. No, both uTorrent and LimeWire Pro work very well in Vista (Maybe better than in XP whistling.gif ).
4. Your nVidia GeForce 9300 isn't a gaming card but you'll be able to run Aero interface which is not included in Vista Business.
Btw, enjoy your XPS. tongue.gif
