About my remark on DDOS, I guess my subtle sarcasm may have been lost... Yes 32 bytes won't do it, yes you need massive amounts of data. My point was we are talking about TM, who knows what they will think - was taking a jab at them...

Well, another call to TM and it seems the BRAS problem has been fixed. And when questioned about why there is still slow connection, they tell me that the technical people has confirmed there is an international link issue. But I get the impression that the relevant dept in charge of solving that only work office hours?? So keep waiting...

So someone go ahead and call TM and ask if there is slow connection problems currently. I wonder if they will say yes or no?

it was just an excuse for TM to cool down ur complaint. The next time u call them ask BRAS is fixed, why line is slow they will give u another "problem"/excuse.
Actually, there really was a BRAS problem. The slow access was there before and after the problem.

I had a call from the Service Recovery Team about this. I am still having long ping times and packet loss to certain US sites especially. Can others update here on whether things are still slow now?

so do i send a complain email to them or what?
Call or email them if you have something to complain about. But as billytong says, the problem is to US / Europe. Unless others are also having problems with other parts of the worl. What is your connection like to US / Europe now?

try ping this atlantica.ndoorsgames.com

u will get 100% lost  at most time . That's holy for Streamyx

That site is not responding to ping requests. Not because of Streamyx.

When there is no solution yet, there is only hope...

Here is an excerpt from TM reply.

=====
The technical team is now handling this issue and they are still running the investigation in order to rectify the issue.
=====

Assuming that they are using proper English to mean what they say, I read the "...in order to rectify the issue." as a confirmation there is a problem and they are investigating it further in order to fix it. I hope it does not mean they are just checking whether there really is a problem.

But then again, this reply on Friday evening could mean, please wait, its the weekend, please wait, we will look into this next week... ???

I've been testing for the last 1 hour since my last post. There does seem to be some improvement. I am getting 300+ ms for US sites and 400+ ms for UK sites. Those used to be 250+ ms and 350+ms. So hopefully it will improve even more.

Maybe TM has finally figured out how to fix this. Or they have asked their peering partners overseas to check on links. I did mention the Savvis network in US to the Service Recovery Team earlier today. Sites located there were pinging at 550+ ms, now at 350+ms.

However, I also notice some sites that seemed ok previously are now a bit slower. For example, the Mzima network in US. Maybe TM swapped some cables...

TM, if you are really doing something to fix this, please continue. You are not quite there yet. If you sent divers to pull and shake the undersea cables, give it a few more tugs...

Or is this just that Streamyx users have gone home for the weekend or are out partying and hence the lines are less congested?? Can't help but be skeptical in this case...

It is still bad here unfortunately

Can you post ping times for savvis.net and mzima.net?

Then disconnect, reconnect with another IP and try again?

SeaGates, the ping times are fairly ok, at least better than previously. But its the packet loss. Are you on 1Mbps? Which general area are you in, if you don't mind?

Also, maybe it takes time for things to shake out into place. The links are suddenly having to do extra work after being asleep for sooo looong...

Just saw your additional comments. See how the mzima.net is such different ping times?

The www.di.fm is going HK -> Tokyo -> LA. There is packet loss somewhere on the way. This is the sort of bad routing TM has been having causing all sorts of problems for us.

CODE
Pinging www.cnn.com [157.166.224.25] with 32 bytes of data:
Ping statistics for 157.166.224.25:
   Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)
I've mentioned this before, don't use cnn.com to test. The site does not respond to ping request. The site is up and accessible even with 100% packet loss.

I have packet loss to facebook.com too at the moment.

Ping times seems to have increased again now for some sites.

Now, SNR Margin is hitting rock bottom and my noise is going sky high, and I only get full 512k speed during the morning to around evening.
Call TM support and ask them to check your port status. Ask whether your SNR or noise margin is in the red. Ask them to refresh / reset your port settings. Then connect again and see if that helps. Otherwise, make a report with them so that they can ask a technician to check your port.
