I saw a very nice glen plaid in wool by Ralph Lauren Polo go last night. 40+ USD before shipping.
Added on January 31, 2010, 1:24 pmI'm hunting for more humble stuff right now. Found these superb vintage beauties for my trousers and waistcoat. I think I need to get a life. This post has been edited by kotmj: Jan 31 2010, 01:24 PM |

They look rusty. I prefer shiny buckles instead.
Damn. Payment made for the PoW tie. |

Those are massively made bronze/brass buckles with the patina of the ages!Added on January 31, 2010, 2:20 pmThere are tailors out there who would sell their pre-pubescent daughters into prostitution to get their hands on those buckles! They used to make doorknobs out of brass. It's the scent of quality. Get over it.
Besides, you don't actually touch it. You set it once, and only change it when your girth changes or before dry cleanings. |

Still...it reminds me of rusty nails. Nasty nails!
I would sterilize it before wearing. Caution with them teeth though. You'll never know how much blood they had drank. This post has been edited by bloke1: Jan 31 2010, 06:49 PM |

hie guys,
Plan to get my MTM suit done in March. So far i haven have any idea what to make or which design to go for. Practically, there's many types of material to choose.... Most commonly the tailor will reckon Mixed wool....i think for rm1350? I checked with: Spark Manshop 1U: Mixed wool RM1350 Tux & Blazer 1U: Mixed Wool RM1300 Bespoke by Ian Chang: Mixed wool RM1350 (they seems professional) Last place i heard that PJ Paramount there is a affordable tailor call "Gents Attire". Cant really get any reviews from the net. ![]() Anyway, Any recommendations for 1 set of suits to be MTM? Where is the best and affortable place to get it done? THanks alot! |

QUOTE(bloke1 @ Jan 31 2010, 06:46 PM) Still...it reminds me of rusty nails. Nasty nails! I totally understand your sentiments, sir calvin. I had previously passed off an old brass handled walking stick in my collection to another buyer... because I couldn't stand the smell. Pity, it was heavy and nice, befitting be to embedded in someone's skull. Now all I have with me is a fancy reproduction metal walking stick and a torn antique walking stick umbrella (possible a lady's).I would sterilize it before wearing. Caution with them teeth though. You'll never know how much blood they had drank. This post has been edited by Fusion[eX]: Feb 1 2010, 12:47 AM |

There are few things which fascinate me more than antique brass trims, especially latches on old doors. I once used to work in an old quaint cottage hotel, and I was seriously tempted to unscrew a beautiful brass latch on one of their doors. I also happened upon several ancient doors stacked behind a factory building, and spent 30 minutes removing the latch on one of them with the help of some coins as screwdriver. I like old stuff. I used to wear a hand-winding Longines from the 50s. For several years I used a hallmarked antique sterling silver teaspoon. It always looked shabby because of the oxidation. The only reason I stopped using it was because if I left it in the hot tea or coffee, the whole spoon heated up to scalding temperatures because of the thermal conductivity of silver. Old things are quaint and lovely.

I should add that you can have a very nice suit made for less than 1K in real wool (I prefer mohair) if you knew how.
