Hello,

I'm sure we all wear colognes. I only have one bottle of Dior Higher Energy. I've heard that men require at least 2 bottles of different cologne, one for the office and one for going out. More than that, there's a day cologne and a night cologne. I'd like to hear your opinions on these.

Also, I've heard that cologne can smell different after a few years after evaporating the 'top smell' because they are a mixture of different esters. After the more volatile esters evaporate, they seem to smell different. Any idea on how far true this is?

Feel free to comment with your favourite smell. Mine is CD Higher Energy.

I've always been extremely particular about the cologne I choose to buy. Because of that, I subscribe to the rule of one main cologne and supplementary ones for different settings. I have been using L'eau D'issey pour Homme (Issey Miyake) for a few years now as my main all purpose cologne. That means I'll always have at least one bottle of it. I find that it does well pretty much wherever I go and it lasts throughout the day. It is not too heavy and the scent while out of the bottle may seem a bit too fresh for some, can die down into a masculine smoky aroma. This makes it suitable for day and night in my opinion. Most importantly is that it works well with my natural body scent and I like it.

I have a few supplement colognes that I purchase in random cycles. I wear these depending on different occasions. These include Tommy (Tommy Hilfiger), Givenchy pour Homme, Hugo (Hugo Boss) and a few others.

A good resource to start looking for potential scents to try is www.basenotes.net . I've been using that since forever. What I usually do is I pick out scents I find interesting and I'll write out a small list to bring to the store for testing when I decide to make a new purchase. Basenotes also has some fantastic articles on scents like how to layer, etc.

I already have 8 cologne. I bought it to use on different occasion and places. Normally I would choose woody/spicy for afternoon/office purpose and more to citrus at night. I also bought Creed which is EDP for special occasion/partying coz you need something smell different from other people .

I personally feel that every person should have 1 or 2 signature smells at a particular time, if too many different colognes are switched between every day, then the scent does not portray the person as an individual any longer, he just becomes a walking cologne sample..

i use giorgio armani acqua di gio, and giorgio armani mania, im going to change to gucci pour homme II.. i spray my colognes on my shirts, i know some people choose to spray on their body but i had some experiences on tasting perfumes off the body of females and it wasn't delightful =) therefore i choose to spray on my shirt..
