doh.gif Not supposed to?

Tell that to the idiot in 2007.

Actually even the G1 Optimus had the Autobots logo plastered on the side in truck mode. And about the reusing of scenes, I think it was because they couldn't use the original footage as an extra got injured during filming, so they had to use old footage. My opinion is this movie suffered from overhype. It was definitely not the best movie of the summer, sadly not having watched XMen the last stand, im not sure what the best movie this summer was to me. Like someone else mentioned, Fast 5 was actually quite entertaining.

I don't like the fact Starscream, Soundwave and Shockwave got killed so easily. They were all deserving of a mini boss battle if you ask me. And the 3 way battle of Sentinel, OP and Megatron could've been wayyy better. These are my gripes with the movie:

1) Poor boss fights
2) Carly is not and never will be Mikaela. The chemistry is simply not there.
3) Megatron sitting out the fight between OP and Sentinel.
4) After screaming and running around, Carly seemingly has the nuts to go up and talk to Megatron who doesn't squash her at first sight.
5) Nobody cried for Ironhide
6) Sentinel has an alt mode even before he scans a vehicle (body already red when OP revives him - I thought they needed to be in protoform?)
7) Sam is not the same character he was in TF1 and 2
8) Does OP really need a jetpack?
9) Megatron is not a bada$$

But there are some things I liked with it as well:

1) Wheelie and Brains were great as comic relief and the unexpected heroes.
2) Great that humans played a bigger part to defeat the Decepticons.
3) The highway chase scene was great
4) Megatron's new look was pretty evil

I watched this "movie" on Sunday. This is not a review but nevermine...

The 3D - the best use of 3D since "Avatar". nod.gif Super noticeably at almost every action sequence. Terrific.

The movie - OMG. I felt it was worse than "Revenge of the Fallen" since for ROTF, they put more of everything and it didn't work while DOTM, we NEEDED it to be the best of the trio in order to complete the series. Worse, expectations were sky high.

Michael Bay, dude, you let us all down.

...and the ending? I mean, wth... as if the movie couldn't hold itself together the ending was super abrupt and uninspiring. doh.gif

I realize something, At least in ROTF, they still have times to tell that Bee's vocal processing system wasn't fixed yet. But in DOTM, looked like they incapable to tell anything (the small things)

DOTM is a class act for "works in writing, but not on film". The plot feels epic on paper, but on-screen it fails.

By far one of the worst movies to have the most excruciatingly extended final act sequence. The plot holes are beyond anyone's imagination.

In fact, this is barely Transformers. M Bay has made a typical action movie with some larger than life fighting machines. That's it.

Hasn't this always been the problem with Bayformers? The robots don't actually transform, they simply morph into any damn thing they like. I can't recall, but in TF1, doesn't Bumblebee look the same in robot mode both before and after he scanned the new Camaro?

Or how that vulture-ish decepticon can transform from a slim LCD monitor to a large-ass photocopier.

No. Bay should not be given the budget too much, turned out he spent that money for stupid CGIs. TF1 is still the best.

Yes. biggrin.gif Having rewatched it, I can definitely say TF2 is the worst. The climactic fight scene was spoiled by too close-up shots, which Bay only learned to avoid in TF3. And the entire bit with the Decepticons chasing Sam through the desert is just dull.

Also, in TF3, is the existence of the Transformers still covered up? Didn't the Fallen announce himself to the whole goddamn world?

I never understood the point of Bay and the writers keeping the Transformers a secret. How does it drive the plot?Oh wait.....forget that

Anyway there was a newscast about the Autobots being exiled, so after two and a half movies, major cities getting destroyed and countless lives lost,
finally the whole world knows their existence. rolleyes.gif

Seriously Bay, thank goodness you're leaving.

So, here it is. My review of "Dark of the Moon".

Having watched the first two, my expectations for the third was sky-rocketing high. Surely it can't be worse than "Revenge of the Fallen"? Well, personally, to me, I felt the end results were the worse than "ROTF".

First of all, these are what the supposedly final M Bay-made Transformers movie were supposed to do :
- Finish the series than started with 2007's "Transformers"
- Final fight between Autobots and Decepticons
- Outcome of the fight concludes the story

No, this is not was it was supposed to do, but what is should be doing. So did it do so?

The Story BAD!
The plot was kept a secret for whatever reason M Bay felt it would protect the undying nerves of ardent Transformers fans. Well, to be honest, the plot felt good in writing but not in film form. If someone explains the plot to you, you will be like "Wow, now that's some crazy sheet going down for the final battle!" The plot is such a downer. I don't quite know what to think about the plot on the classic Transformers fans but for a third movie, it is a let down. It could have been so much more better. He should have hired someone else to write the film, and not one who was involved in ROTF's writing. Having said that, why protect a crappy story? No idea.

The Pace BAD!
LOL, the early parts involved mostly Sam and the usual build-up to the plot. Was it painful to watch? No. It was enjoyable to say the least. Bring in Agent Simmons and more fun was added. Then... it all went crazy. M Bay "So now, we will bring mayhem to the city and the audience will not be able to breath". Right, since the pace suddenly kicks into the 7th gear during the final 1-hour of carnage. The final hour also had such a bad structure. One moment they're running the next Sentinel is like "I'm about to start the Pillars." OK, then 10 minutes passes only then he puts his hands on it. More running and shooting. 10 minutes later, the Pillars are activated. What a long, draggy and excruciatingly thinned out final act. I only loved the building collapse scene. It was terrific.

The Acting Performances BAD!
You know what, the first two movies, had no problems with the acting performances. They all did a splendid job. Then comes DOTM's new characters - Carly and Gould. Carly is by far one of the worst "heroin" in recent years. Her acting is by-the-words and she flaunts herself whenever, well, is needed. The opening sequence - - necessary? No, it wasn't but it was an attempt to get people talking about her just like people did with Megan Fox in the first film's iconic car repair scene. Kinda tasteless in my opinion. And a second time too if you can remember Alice and Sam in the second film. What about Dylan Gould? What a waste of space and time. I didn't quite understand his full reasoning to be a bad guy since well, I have no clue why was he that way (he was being controlled?). He also seem to be on auto-pilot though way better than Rosie. Shia did a brilliant job as always. The use of John Malkovich is purely for on-screen presence. Nothing more. Another wasted actor. Ken Jeong was in the film too. Yet again, wasted for his brief appearance. I would say the writing is to be blamed. These actors did not get enough screen time and was underused.

The Music BAD? LP again?
What is this? A deal with Linkin Park for the trilogy? They seem dead set to bring them in after the brilliant music they provided in the first film. I would consider myself a fan of LP but this just seems to me they are trying to evoke the same feeling they provided before. Apart from this, Steve Jablonsky's "Arrival to Earth" was changed a bit which was kinda cool.

The Ending BAD!
Plain bad. I sincerely believe than even if a movie is so-so, a terrific/memorable ending could change it all. You will be like "Yeah, the movie is not that great but the ending was brilliant." Unfortunately, the saddest part of the movie was how it ended. Abruptly. As soon as the fight was over, it was over. That's it. The arch of 3 movies ends in just minutes. Zero consideration for the emotions built between the fans/audience and the characters we know since the first film. I was so surprised by how it ended. And Megatron? OMG... being a machine/intelligent menacing villain, how dumb can one get? The bit with Carly and Megatron was lol-worthy.

3D
The best use of 3D since "Avatar". It was noticeable, as in, actual 3D. From the Paramount logo at the beginning to the ending bits. This is, to me the only great thing about the movie. It was very well done. The 3D still made the film look dim though and I really wish it was brighter.

FINAL VERDICT
It is hard to say a good thing about this movie. There are, but scarce. Letdown by the plot, the relentless botched messy final act and an utterly hopeless ending, this is one movie that I just can't recommend. But hey, if you did watch the first two, then a third outing wouldn't be too much of a bad thing. Sure some might overlook the plot and grab a popcorn for the action, but that's about it. I categorize this as a "non-intelligent man's movie". It was never about how good the plot is, it was all about how to throw in the loudest, baddest and most menacing explosions as to make it a final film. M Bay, you really have the knack to take our money.

5/10

4/10, bumped to 5/10 thanks to 3D.

yeah... he kept the plot a secret coz the majority of ticket sales were pre-ordered... in the usa, 2nd week it dropped like mad after word of mouth spread that it sucked. if people knew it sucked beforehand, there would be less pre-booking and pre-buying i wager
