i also got this problem before now use cooking oil and wipe it around at side bottom of my hamster tank and near the lid (top part). i use fish tank for my hamster cage. maybe it sound messy but it works for me to get rid ants from crawling into my hamster tank. usually i will do this 2 or 3 weeks once.

I have this problem for my pets cages too smile.gif Normal when you feed fresh fruits / veggies to your pets. Even my mealworms they kacau. So what i do is i put vaseline on the bottom of the cage/stand. thumbup.gif

QUOTE
Hamsters are crepuscular. In the wild, they burrow underground in the daylight to avoid being caught by predators. Their diet contains a variety of foods, including dried food, berries, nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables. In the wild they will eat any wheat, nuts and small bits of fruit and vegetables that they might find lying around on the ground, and will occasionally eat small insects such as small crickets or mealworms. They have elongated fur-lined pouches on both sides of their heads which extend to their shoulders, which they stuff full of food to be brought back to the colony or to be eaten later.

Just quoting from wikipedia~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamster

I do feed my syrian with carnivore food and ocassionaly mealies smile.gif

Hi peeps!

May I know where can I buy Organic food and bedding for hamsters? Is anyone using these products? Is the price sky high?
I have 4 Roborovski hamsters and one is critically ill because of a big lump that keeps growing.  sad.gif
*
You can try petshack laugh.gif they have a wide variety there.. They have the eco straw bedding which you can try.. the bedding can eat one XD Maybe you should bring the hamster to the vet.. it could be a cyst.

Vet in UPM. Receptionist not so friendly, vet is friendly.
I have 4 hammies, 2 boys, 2 females. All in 4 cages. Cause one male is fighting with the other for territory and food. Females have to separate as mentioned earlier one is sick.  rclxub.gif

The bedding is really pricey!  shakehead.gif Though I know they are very good and organic (I'm a  fan of organic stuff). If I'm to use for the 4 cages, I might have to eat grass soon!  sweat.gif

Where can I buy the Uncle Taro Smoothie?

Added on May 14, 2009, 11:42 amBTW, is it cheaper to go to Petshack's store to buy or buying online is the same?
*
Breeder celect then like blurjoey said laugh.gif cheaper than eco straw and very very veryyyy good. I use that for my hammies nod.gif You can view different flavors of uncle taro's smoothie Here~

Possible reasons why they eat their pups:

- Not experienced mothers (find the babies as a threat- eating them makes the threat go away)
- pups are undersized or abnormal (mom rejects and possibly eats)
- mother could be craving for nutrients after giving birth, eating them replenishes herself.
- you touched her babies..

========

Anyways here is pics of my hubby's WW lol... just wanted to spice the thread up~ was messing around with the camera =x

in the first page i read that only mate 2 syrians together when the female is on heat. What does is mean by"on heat"? how do i know if the female is on heat?
*
If i am not mistaken... its should be on the 4th day and during the evening.. i think lah =x To tell if the female is on heat, try to touch her tail and see if it sticks up and she stands still for awhile.. hehe i think lah.. i have read about this somewhere.. but i cannot confirm it.. Im sure seniors will rectify this statement smile.gif

females that are on heat can get very stinky smile.gif...this is one of the signs...
sugarcoatedcandy, your hams are all so cute! they remind me of my friend's Pompy. just as a suggestion, since you RCs are still pups and you're using hay and BC as bedding you can actually add a little toilet rolls to create a snuggly environment as they're still small and fragile...
hope you don't get offended as i was just giving my opinion smile.gif
*
Thanks sharkie.. they are technically not mine laugh.gif they belong to my husband.. im just babysitting them once in a while lol.. Thanks for the suggestion about the toilet roll. We first planned to tear tissues and put inside but scared =x so how should the toilet roll be? As it is or shud we shred them into pieces laugh.gif thanks again for the suggestion! rclxms.gif

Cute 1 u got there...
*
Well winter whites are generally tame lol.. that explains the picture.. coz they are not bitey and not to fidgety. Our RC still likes nibbling and also.. cant really keep still shakehead.gif not sure about robos hehe.. we never had those before..

Best wheels for syrian would be the wodent wheel or the comfort wheel. I think the silent wheel also has the 8inch one.. if not mistaken smile.gif But not many petshops carry 8 inch wheel hehehhe~

is it.... i heard syrian bite people very pain wan eh.... sure bleed lot...

Ya, i also agree Hagen quality better than Habitrail.. Habitrail the plastic like very crispy..
*
I pray to god this wont happen to me lol.. had enuff bites here and there laugh.gif but i have had my 2 syrians since they were small.. so far no nipping or biting. I think if they are handled daily, they wont bite.. unless they are hungry laugh.gif but then again.. anything with a face.. expect it to bite LOL..

The habitrail plastic crispy? lol eric can eat arr? XD But can tell the older zoozone was better, tapping on the plastic also can know hehehe~
