hi..wanna know..y cannot feed cabage to hamster??....i just notice the list...but my hammies gila makan cabbage...

Feeding cabbage to hamsters should be avoided. Although cabbage possesses valuable properties for humans of having sulphur, chlorine, and iodine content. The combination of sulphur and chlorine causes a cleaning of the mucus membranes of the stomach and the intestinal tract, this acts as a laxative. Cabbage also acts as a diuretic, a substance that causes increased urination, and tends to increase the secretion and flow of urine. Broccoli can also have a similar effect. A small quantity of cabbage may be fed to a hamster if he is constipated. Feed it raw as the longer cabbage is cooked the less digestible it becomes.

Things you should avoid giving to you hamster:  Lettuce, cabbage and brussel sprouts since they will cause gastritis, bladder trouble, and in the case of lettuce, liver or  kidney problems.    Also avoid tomato, pickles, chocolate,  orange, potato tops, rhubarb, onion and garlic since acidic foods  are not good for your hamster.  Steer away from any  excessively sticky foods as these may gum up the hamster's dry  pouches and may actually cause a pouch to become impacted.

Can feed them oats but in small amount. Also avoid feeding them those instant oats.

The difference between the two,is Rolled Oats is not processed and nutrients are still intact,as compared to Instant Oats. This also makes Rolled oats longer time to cook than instant oats. Between the two,choose rolled oats. This is just like choosing between brown flour (use to make capati etc) and white flour, brown rice and white rice,wholemeal buns and white buns etc.

Usually instant oats have sugar and salt added in them. Also there isn't much nutrients in instant oats. That's why is better to get rolled oats to feed your hammies.
