I think no matter which 1, need to know which 1 u like to do and enjoy it. If you dun enjoy jogging, then jogging won't help u as u wont do it consistantly. Workout is same case.

For me, i found i lost most of my weight thru jogging/running and hiking. Just find a nice hill, walk/hike every week, sure help. (but hiking might result in big calves mucles, if u r a girl, u might dun want biggrin.gif)

I think jogging is better, in the morning with fresh air, but you really need to find a suitable place to jog, or find some friends to jog together, because nowadays almost everywhere is dangerous, with crimes like snatch thief, robber, rapist, etc.

why not do both?

Make ur pre work out and post work out be 15 to 20 mins of jogging which not only helps burn fat , lossening ur mucles but also elavates ur heart rate through an aerobic or cardio mode n prepares u for ur anaerobic workout such as push ups, weights and other muscular strengthening work outs.

If you don't care about muscle at all, can do cardio 6 times a week, 40min per day. That's like HIIT(High Intensity Interval Training), jog until you're tired, then walk, repeat etc. Leave 1 day to rest. If that is too much just reduce the days but at least 3 per week minimum, 30min duration per day. Start much slower of course if you haven't been exercising at all, body +muscles needs to get used to it first.

Most importantly however, is diet. To lose weight, calories out must be > calories in. So calories out must come from diet + exercise to be the fastest. Of course diet plays the biggest factor as 1 chocolate bar can waste 1 whole hour's effort of cardio, for example. Do not starve yourself however, as your body will slow its metabolism to preserve fat and burn muscle. Have to lose weight slowly, 1 pound per week is recommended if I'm not wrong. That's about 500 calories deficit per day. 3500 calories gone = 1 pound of fat gone.

I tried to read whether you can preserve/gain muscle while trying to lose weight from a lot of sites, but I think most said cannot. To gain weight, you need more calories than normal(especially protein) while to lose weight, you need less calories than normal. But I still do squats/pushups/bicep curls while doing heavy cardio anyway, since I have lots of free time. If you do try to do both, make sure you weight lift first before cardio, not the other way around.

Note: this is only what I learned from reading other people's experiences, may be wrong.

The first 20mins or so of doing any form of exercise, you will be utilizing the energy from glycogen stores and cards in your body.
You will only tap into your fat stores AFTER that period of time for energy; therefore fat burning normally occurs only 20mins into exercise..

For weight loss and at the same time pack on some muscle, i suggest working out first for about 20mins, then doing a 30mins cardio session or more.
And also, always remember to allow your body to get sufficient rest.. too much stress on it will hamper all gains/losses(fats).
Gluck! wink.gif

i do both... i jog 1 1/2 hours.. work out for 45 minutes... 3x a week... 1 time of badminton

when i go joggin my muscles get so pumped up with blood i dont know why.... so it is so much easier to carry weights... get tired less often...

a lot of ppl say joggin burn more calories... yes.. it is true... but if u carry weights, calo burning comes after the exercise when ur body is repairing ur muscles.. n i believe that is a lot too...

For me jogging is the most effective way to loose weight... 3x a week, each time ~30mins. Last time I use to do sit-ups, pull-ups, push-ups ... blah3 but end up jogging is still the best and yet simple. Just get a pair of running shoes and you're set to go.

Just my 2 cents....

i'm also planning to lose my weight by jogging too, but becuase i'm too overweight, i can't run even sprint for up to 1 minute.

is it okay if i do a brisk walk?

Good effects from jogging on the health condition

Jogging done on a regular basis give a distinct good effect upon the general health, provided it is not over-done. The effects are:

*

Jogging makes the heart stronger. It increases the capasity of the blood circulation and of the respiratory system.
*

It speeds up the digestive system and helps you get rid of digestive trouble.
*

It counteracts depression.
*

It increases the capasity to work and lead an active life.
*

Jogging makes you burn fat and can thereby help against over-weight. Jou can consume 100-200 extra calories in a half-hour session. In order to be an effective means to loose weight, the jogging sessions must be at least half an hour and be repeated fairly often. The extra burning of fat continues some time after the session is over.
*

If you suffer from poor appetite and too low weight, short jogging sessions will improve your appetite, and in this case it can help you to gain weight.
*

Jogging will strengthens the muscles of the legs, hips and back. However you will not get very big muscles from jogging.
*

Jogging makes you sleep better.

p/s : to me to lose weight better go for jogging because it will burn the fat directly but if you go for working out it will actually tone yur fat and turned it into muscles cause iam a gym guy myself & its very hard for me to gain weight but occasionally i do run on the treadmill and i do see my weight decreasing thats a fact

of course both is beneficial...if u r obese than jog is not good for your knees and leg, else u can jog...but to include workout is better where as you are exercising for your stamina and to get fit...theres a lot of method to do WO and it does not mean to lift weight only...theres workout cable, exercise ball, dumbell etc...assume jogging is for cardio and WO is for fitness...u'll find it better to do both rather than pick either one...

The key is balance between bodybuilding and cardio IMHO.

jogging would be simpler because work out needs assistance if u don't do it the right way.
