to quote myself:

QUOTE
I guess people will always have simple questions about hardware so let's post your one liner questions here.

Free for all - that means anyone, seniors and noobs alike can ask super stoopid question and not get whacked / flamed / scoldedĀ  harrased / killed / whatever by any forumer - just in this thread)

Other oneliner and "I-refuse-to-google" threads will be deleted without mercy bruce.gif

To those who flame others for asking stoopid question will get their share of flames, no question asked

QUOTE(astria @ Dec 15 2008, 11:43 AM)
yup, short circuit it...

that's wat the switch on the case do anyway...
*
bukan short circuit or use screw driver

get a piece of wire and connect the green wire to the black one (any black will do)

QUOTE(Hinika @ Dec 24 2008, 10:24 AM)
i have 2 hdd here,

hdd 1 with os, can access to windows but might not sometime before format,  after delete the partition during win os setup, the format cant complete as displayed the hdd might be Damaged, cant even format it at other pc, but can still detect.

hdd 2 with storage, can be detect but cant access, appear might be corrupted or unreadable...

so both of this hdd can send to warranty ady?
*
backup the data and do a full format (including deleting all the partitions) and see whether it works

if it doesn't, you can RMA them if they still have warranty. usually the manufacturer website will let you check the warranty status by keying in the serial number

Eh guys..
Does the Single Channel and Dual Channel noticable?
EG : 2x2GB VS 1x2GB,2x1GB..
If it is..does the affect quite alot?
*
just to put up further explanation

single or dual channel configuration doesn't speed up the computer. it merely speed up the LOADING process. more amount of data can be written / read to the memory on dual channel configuration

but the speed advantage is minimal if not noticeable on normal, every day computing

but when you are talking about games with HUGE maps to load, dual channel will be significantly faster to load the maps

same goes with ultra high resolution picture editigin or any programs that sucks up huge amount of memory

Hi,

What's an ATX ? .. i hear people talking about it in Casing and Modifications subforum .. what exactly issit ?
*
ATX is a computer casing configuration standards (how everything is arranged in the computer case)

aside from ATX (psu on top), there's the less popular BTX (psu botom, usually DELL pc's have it)

there's also many variants of ATX - mini, micro, etc...

to make it clearer, measure the FAN CASING length or width (straight across, not diagonal like monitor)

Aww, nuts. The Nano is really interesting lar. With PCI-E and better power consumption. Atoms are all over the place tho. There's not a single distro that brings VIA products in?
*
if you have a huge wad of cash, pm sniperontheroof. he's in taiwan and can get access to OEM via proc

btw, VIA sucks big time. stupid underpowered processor. dunno why you still want it even though there are many reviews against it

A simple question, Can my ATi HD3870 support High end games like NFS:Undercover with 22 inch LCD + high settings (1680x1080) ?

wanna buy a LCD soon but stuck with the choice between T190 and 2233BW.....
*
correction: the reso should be 1680x1050

your 3870 should be able to support high setting for NFS, but not necessarily in that high native resolution

NFS is not a high end game. crysis is

Orly? Haven't really read up on VIA procs, only comparisions to Atom. Guess they just highlighted its pros against the Atom, omitting its flaws. Thanks for the heads-up. Guess i'll stick with my X2 for torrenting for now.
*
atom is one of the least power hungry proc out there and yet is more powerful than VIA. it even beats some of intel's more expensive LV & ULV procs.

VIA nano used to be good in the niche ultraportable, ultra low power consumption and cheap until atom comes by

ok. my turn to ask a super noob question.

will a 1TB (that's 1,000gb) hdd will work with my old socket 478 (pentium 4, prescott) mobo? will the mobo recognize it?

i'm stuck with two sata port in my old mobo and pc upgrade is not a choice.

and how is the add on SATA card? will it work on normal pci slot and how is the speed affected? (normal pci only 66mhz)

regarding the ultra portable part, re u referring to the older C7 instead??? yes, C7 sucks big time, at most has P3's performance...

afaik Nano @ 1.8GHz can rival Atom @ 1.6GHz w/ HT in terms of performance...

moreover Nano's mobo consumes less power than Intel's 945 chipset also...

and VIA has no restriction on the amount of RAM to be used and PCI-E x16 as well...
*
that's where Intel FAILED. with an awesome atom proc, they failed to produce a similarly awesome chipset. instead, they opt for the older and more power consuming

as for the RAM amount, i have to check. AFAIK, it's dictated by microsoft. they have very strict "net-top" with windows xp

and why on earth a pci-ex16 on an atom? atom was designed with one thing in mind - ultra mobility; that is batt life and physical size

You have to check and see if the latest BIOS supports HDD sizes up to 1GB.. IMHO any BIOS that can detect more than 137GB (supports 48-bit LBA) should be able to recognize 1TB drives. wink.gif

convincing stuff. ok. time to download more porns. yaaay~

doesnt sure where to ask so i post here,

its possible to use wired MAC keyboard on PC rite?
any restrictions if use in win os or extra drivers require ?

[attachmentid=739117]
*
no problem. go ahead. no extra driver needed. windows will recognize it as another human interface device

just some keys won't work or function properly. the cmd key would work as a start button IIRC

and why apple keyb?? there's no "delete" button on it. why oh why?

guys, this is a thread for simple questions. discussions on OC would be better handled by pro / experts in the OC forums. they will be glad to help you out with the best settings / bangs for bucks / value hardware for you to experiment on.

keep the questions simple... wink.gif

will p45 price goes down??

probably

best time to buy? anytime is not a good time to buy. the market moves too fast. look for q1 of the year where intel usually announce price cuts

lol, maybe this is a pretty noob qn, i oso dun wan to tumpang other ppl thread, i dun wan to create new thread due to my simple qn :s

so its like this..

let say there are 2 procs, dual core n quadcore, same clock speed, same cache size.
so, AFAIK, dualcore perform better in game. but what about quadcore? will it perform the same and let the other 2 cores relax? (non-quadcore utilized game)
*
not necessarily. most games out there can only utilise one core. not many games are capable of using all of the cpu cores

if the game is written to support multiple cores, damn it will use all the cores all the time

why blue screen sometime appear during i play game....
it appear sometime only...

isit my gc problem? or my window problem? hmm.gif

plsss help me sad.gif
*
many problems can cause it. if u r saying when u r playing game, two main factors: either your gc overheated or your ram has faulty addresses.

HD4850 is a hot rite?
dosen't effect other hardware?

good ventilation (nicely placed fans) is essential to let the heat out

either that or underclock your card when not gaming

is stock processor cooler is enough.. i heard AMD phenom quite hot... should i chg da stock cooler.. bcoz i plan to operate 24/7 icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif
*
if you dun o/c or run it at full throttle for a long period of time, the stock heatsink and fan should suffice. just keep in mind the fan noise is not pleasing though

this is serious issue

NTLDR is the NT Kernel Loader. essentially the core starter of windows XP

copy the error message code and check the problem solution at Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB)

Open up a thread in technical support if you need more help

If possible, get a screen capture of the error message screen (use digital camera)

QUOTE(izglory @ Jan 3 2009, 11:07 PM)
Guys i need a budget mobo and PSU for intel quad and ATI 4830.
If possible I want the most affordable price yet usable and durable, but most of them are expensive.my budget for mobo(4ram slots) and PSU is like rm400-450..really run out of cash XD, so any pro wif pro suggestion? super pure noob here ..

Anyway another question is those mobos with 4ram slots comes with 2 different colours, example 2 red , 2 yellow, is there any difference? or is it for different specific ram? or its the same?
*
you don need a quad intel proc and ATI4830 if budget is such a constraint

get a low end cpu and a basic video card

a usable computer? depends on ur use.

durable? not like ur gonna bring the pc to the jungle with you. 24/7 pc's are more to cooling and ventilation and proper surge protection

u can have a durable, usable and very affordable pc if you steer away from those high end stuff. gor for mid low end, or even the lowest end
