From this thread

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/478651/+2440

to quote myself:

QUOTE
I guess people will always have simple questions about hardware so let's post your one liner questions here.

Free for all - that means anyone, seniors and noobs alike can ask super stoopid question and not get whacked / flamed / scolded  harrased / killed / whatever by any forumer - just in this thread)

Other oneliner and "I-refuse-to-google" threads will be deleted without mercy bruce.gif

To those who flame others for asking stoopid question will get their share of flames, no question asked

You have to delete it first. Then create the partitions you want. Make sure you do not have any important data in that HDD before deleting. wink.gif

yes you can use latest cards (your mobo has PCI-E 16x slot)
but for high-end cards you need 6/8PIN PCI-E power to feed them (depends on power supply)
false.

there's no such thing as intel works better with nvidia.

Any latest, even high end graphics card can be used... depends on your budget. However you should be aware that powerful graphics cards will require good and beefy (true power) PSUs. nod.gif

Dual channel a little bit faster, but usually you won't notice this unless you run some benchmarks. icon_rolleyes.gif

u either ve DX9.0c with SM3.0 or DX10 with SM4.0...

anyway, for that CPU of yours, which will be a big bottleneck if u stuff in a performance card, and unknown PSU, i suggest HD 4670...

Check the brand/model and wattage of the PSU.. Its much more useful if you can post a picture of the PSU label showing it power ratings (current and voltage). For example...

Choices are HD4670, HD3870, 9600GT, 9800GT and HD4830.. All of these generally requires minimum a true power 400W~450W PSU. Some specific requirements... 9600GT requires 26A on the +12V rails, HD3870 requires 30A on the +12V rails. wink.gif

bottleneck means that the incapability of different hardwares running at a parallel or universal pace... so means sometimes will "traffic jam" then cause some performance drop or underperform.. haha... get urself a 500ml Coke.. look on top of the bottle.. then u'll get the meaning biggrin.gif

all graphic card will need to update driver regularly to ensure optimal performance...

bottleneck... think of this way... ur new GC can process data faster than the CPU feed it, so ur GC cannot work in the max potential... in another word, the CPU amy limit the performance of the GC...

Question: Are bad clusters on a new hard drive something to worry about?
*
Answer:
Using CHKDSK to Fix Your Hard Drive Issues

Step 1 : Understand your problem. In a Windows-based file system, a cluster is a block of storage space that is not listed as free, but is not assigned to any file, either. In other words, the file system has marked the cluster to not be overwritten, but it doesn't know why. This does not necessarily indicate any problems with the hard drive itself. Usually, lost or bad clusters are the result of improper program terminations, like those due to power loss or shutting off a computer without closing the applications first.

Step 2 : Open a command prompt or DOS prompt. Depending on which version of Windows you are using, there are multiple ways to run the CHKDSK utility. The method that works across most versions is to run it via the command line.

Step 3 : Type "chkdsk /r" in your command prompt window. This tells the computer to run the CHKDSK utility and to repair any errors it finds. Your may need to reboot your computer to run the chkdsk utility.

Step 4 : Wait for the utility to finish. Unless you begin seeing errors on the screen right away, it is probably in your best interest to go do something else while your computer checks the drive. The process can take hours, so there is not need to sit and stare at the screen.

Step 5 : Reboot. After the utility has finished, reboot your system to start the operating system normally. Your lost clusters will be saved as files named with the convention: file####.chkThe data in such files is usually worthless. However, you may be able to analyze the files and recover some data if it is critical.

^^

Actually, i was running CHKDSK when i got messages about bad clusters popping up during stage 4. Nevertheless, thanks for the detailed reply. Was actually kinda worried as i had my rig crash on me twice yesterday. Once was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with smth regarding nv4 and the second time its KERNEL_INPAGE_DATA_ERROR. Googled the errors and it pointed me towards either the RAM or the hard disk failing. I put software issues aside as problems occured the moment i changed my hard disk to the current one. Ran memtest for an hour or so, came up clean, so i decided it was the hard disk.

Should i just RMA the drive? It still under the 7-day 1-to-1 policy.

Indeed, i have done so today. Sent it to their tech department, even they said that the drive was problematic after 10 mins of checking. Praying hard that this one doesnt suffer the same fate. biggrin.gif Thanks alot for the advice.

Means the total current for the +12V rails must be 26A. For single +12V rail, the current rating must be 26A or higher. For dual rail +12V (you will see something like +12V1 +12V2), the total combined must be 26A or greater. wink.gif

How many +12V rails are there? Is it just a single one or two of them? It would be better if you can post a picture of the PSU label.. hmm.gif

haha, because long time ago mobo don't have soundcard built-in /inferior quality.
nowadays buying soundcards is more on personal taste /work.
in the market have Creative X-Fi, Audiotrak Prodigy, Asus Xonar, etc..

when "buy soundcard" era, we want connect speaker & mic only.
modern mobos have 7.1 channels support & blah blah.. all kinds of functions & settings.
good enough for normal usage, quality wise is individual taste sleep.gif
buy good speaker > than soundcard (the "feel-able" improvement)

don't worry, now still got people buy /sell soundcard one laugh.gif

bandwidth. the limit is actually depend on the chipset, not slots.
eg. using nForce-SLi chip, 8x+8x. nForce-SLI 32X chip, you can run 16x+16x.
(correct me if i'm wrong)

no, you will never find a s939 mobo support DDR2 because in AMD case, processor control RAMs not mobo.
and.. you won't feel much different using 38X2 with DDR2. believe it or not, go find a friend PC test it rolleyes.gif
if you want a little fast without spending a lot (i see you using new 96GT), learn to play with BIOS settings.
good luck wink.gif

Actually you have got quite a good setup (from your siggy, I see a 9600GT there brows.gif )... I would suggest upgrade only if you feel your machine is not up to task (e.g. games slow downs). If your PC still serves you well, then no need to upgrade your PC hardware first.. Just get the LCD monitor and see... nod.gif

*

hard to explain.. more or less like why you run windows update & put service pack.
can be increase performance, fix bug /security hole, compatibility problem.
is it a must? not necessary if you don't need the fix.
the risk of failure is like James case, no boot sad.gif

BIOS (Basic Input /Output System) is "program" stored inside a "chip" of your mobo.
flash BIOS = put service pack, different from "changing factory setting" = play control panel.
new BIOS = more things to play in control panel icon_idea.gif
you can easily reset CMOS (the "chip") stored settings to default by pull out battery,
but you need special tool /program to "flash" BIOS version (either upgrade or downgrade).

backup the data and do a full format (including deleting all the partitions) and see whether it works

if it doesn't, you can RMA them if they still have warranty. usually the manufacturer website will let you check the warranty status by keying in the serial number

Eh guys..
Does the Single Channel and Dual Channel noticable?
EG : 2x2GB VS 1x2GB,2x1GB..
If it is..does the affect quite alot?
*
just to put up further explanation

single or dual channel configuration doesn't speed up the computer. it merely speed up the LOADING process. more amount of data can be written / read to the memory on dual channel configuration

but the speed advantage is minimal if not noticeable on normal, every day computing

but when you are talking about games with HUGE maps to load, dual channel will be significantly faster to load the maps

same goes with ultra high resolution picture editigin or any programs that sucks up huge amount of memory

When the machines starts, is it a blank screen... or is there any text or beeps? Have try looking into the motherboard manual on BIOS recovery procedure (usually may requires the use of CD/DVD drive or floppy disk drive) ? hmm.gif

Depends.... In gaming, it will be E6600 overall due to larger cache and higher bus speed. wink.gif

More RAM means most of the game program can reside in the memory, thus less paging (use of "virtual memory). icon_rolleyes.gif

Black screen... no text no nothing... looked into the manual... the only thing i know is the Download Flash Bios Pins, which i think need a external to flash it... and they didnt give any instruction on bios recovery or any disk...
Then im thinking of Hotflashing, but i dunno who willing to borrow their mobo...
So im looking for any shop or place than have bios flashing service... but still cant find yet...

Worst case scenario, get a new board, hot flash myself, then sell it out for a much lower price, but problem is i dun have so much money at the moment, so looking for flashing service would be the best...

E8200 2.66GHz 6MB Cache 1333MHz FSB
E8400 3.00GHz 6MB Cache 1333MHz FSB

E8200 = 8x333 = 2660MHz
E8400 = 9x333 = 3000MHz

if u r not overclocking just remain with ur e8200, not much different with e8400.... if im in ur place ill clock e8200 to 3000mhz... if u wana upgrade look for e8500

ATX is a computer casing configuration standards (how everything is arranged in the computer case)

aside from ATX (psu on top), there's the less popular BTX (psu botom, usually DELL pc's have it)

there's also many variants of ATX - mini, micro, etc...

correction: the reso should be 1680x1050

your 3870 should be able to support high setting for NFS, but not necessarily in that high native resolution

NFS is not a high end game. crysis is

atom is one of the least power hungry proc out there and yet is more powerful than VIA. it even beats some of intel's more expensive LV & ULV procs.

VIA nano used to be good in the niche ultraportable, ultra low power consumption and cheap until atom comes by

regarding the ultra portable part, re u referring to the older C7 instead??? yes, C7 sucks big time, at most has P3's performance...

afaik Nano @ 1.8GHz can rival Atom @ 1.6GHz w/ HT in terms of performance...

moreover Nano's mobo consumes less power than Intel's 945 chipset also...

and VIA has no restriction on the amount of RAM to be used and PCI-E x16 as well...

that's where Intel FAILED. with an awesome atom proc, they failed to produce a similarly awesome chipset. instead, they opt for the older and more power consuming

as for the RAM amount, i have to check. AFAIK, it's dictated by microsoft. they have very strict "net-top" with windows xp

and why on earth a pci-ex16 on an atom? atom was designed with one thing in mind - ultra mobility; that is batt life and physical size

Intel has restriction of RAM on the Atom platform so that it can be called a Nettop/Netbook... it's 2GB if i remember correctly... and there's also the restriction of only 1 DIMM on Nettop/Netbook as well... and no PCI-E x16

MS's restriction, on the other hand, is on how XP can be deployed... MS's limit is 1GB RAM and 160GB HDD when the unit is sold... anything more will have to use Vista (eg Asus N10J)

VIA has done away with all of Intel's restriction in a bid to counter Atom... they even have got Nvidia to make a chipset for Nano that comes with 2 SO-DIMM and PCI-E x16, all on a ITX 2.0 mobo...

PCI-E was wanted as ppl would love to use a Nettop as a HTPC... Intel's GMA and VIA's S3 Chrome were no where near HD hardware decode...

but now that there's GeForce 9400M for Atom, i think VIA is in for some serious trouble...

oh, btw, Intel has another chipset designed specifically for Atom which consumes approx. 3-5W only... but Netbook/Netop makers opt for 945 instead as it's approx. US$25 cheaper to make...

I think you got some parts wrong here... The chipset used on the desktop Atom motherboard is 945GC which is the more power consuming one.. The chipset used on Nettop (e.g. ASUS EEE Box) and Netbooks is mostly 945GSE which is the low power one.. icon_rolleyes.gif

You have to check and see if the latest BIOS supports HDD sizes up to 1GB.. IMHO any BIOS that can detect more than 137GB (supports 48-bit LBA) should be able to recognize 1TB drives. wink.gif

You can add a SATA card.. Just for your information, the average transfer speed of HDDs are around 33MB/s.. and the PCI bus is capable of up to 133MB/s. cool.gif

You have to check and see if the latest BIOS supports HDD sizes up to 1GB.. IMHO any BIOS that can detect more than 137GB (supports 48-bit LBA) should be able to recognize 1TB drives. wink.gif

*
there is still the "Intel System Controller Hub US15W" designed for Atom Z500 family, which has a max TDP of 2.3W and comes with GMA 500 for graphic...

but when used with Atom Z530 (the highest clock Atom to use with the chipset) it costs US$95 when u order from Intel... compared to Atom 230 + 945GC costs US$52....

i can't obtain the figure of Atom N270 + 945GSE, but i estimate it to be approx. US$70...

E8400 can achieve higher bus speed, not to mention the extra 3mb L2 cache. But for people like me who own un-overclock-able RAMs, E7300 will work better since it has higher multiplier nod.gif

Help! How do i use widescreen resolutions in Vista with my integrated GPU? I'm using a nF630i / 7050 on an Asus M2N68-AM. I've installed the drivers that came with the board, plus 17x.xx for Vista. This worked for me when i was on XP, but when it came to Vista, no luck. It only provides 4:3 resolutions.

Tried googling, but so far, no luck.

Tried, but NvCP is utterly messed up. Custom resolutions can work, but it wont stick. The checkbox below the custom resolutions, the key to applying custom resos, keeps unchecking itself. Score one for Nvidia drivers.

i think E6420 is better.
E6420 is core 2 duo and E5200 is dual core.
E6420 has a higer FSB and cache rather than E5200.
am i right?

e8400 all the way, most games arent really made for quadcore yet, so e8400 is the best for now.. but if you're into online gaming and do multiclienting, then phenom is your choice smile.gif but i would choose q6600 than phenom..

well, even phenom x4 9950 cant defeat e8400, what do you expect from x3? =/ well, maybe got something different in x3, i dont really know tho, i tink x3 isnt real enemy for e8400 tongue.gif

actually, it depends on benchmark.. if the software support quaddie, so phenom is better. else, dual core pwn..

no problem. go ahead. no extra driver needed. windows will recognize it as another human interface device

just some keys won't work or function properly. the cmd key would work as a start button IIRC

and why apple keyb?? there's no "delete" button on it. why oh why?

Its always better to run the memory in dual channel mode, in other words two identical sticks of RAM for the DIMM slots. Do not mix the RAMs. In gaming more RAM is always better.. Anyway, Phenoms require expensive high performance low latency RAM (DDR2-1066) for better (full) performance... whereas Intel Core 2 can pretty much perform with just value RAMs. icon_rolleyes.gif

if you put both of them on the same mobo, the 800mhz will downclock to 667ghz to match the speed. 667 wont fly over to 800mhz.
you wont feel the difference between 800 n 667mhz smile.gif

QUOTE(cocoy @ Dec 30 2008, 01:45 PM)

well, performance ram usually used for overclocking purpose, it can run at tighter timing. i would go for 4gb value ram than 2gb performance ram.
besides, difference of performance between value and performance ram only around 5%.. i tink it is due to performance ram have tighter timing. and again, you wont feel the difference tongue.gif

It costs around RM420 or less... E8400 can go very high like 4.5ghz but considering KVR can't overclock much, better go for lower processor with more multiplier like E7300 brows.gif

guys, this is a thread for simple questions. discussions on OC would be better handled by pro / experts in the OC forums. they will be glad to help you out with the best settings / bangs for bucks / value hardware for you to experiment on.

keep the questions simple... wink.gif

you dont need a high performance ram to oc your processor, let alone a performance ram.
value ram is sufficient enough ..

and btw, learn more on how to oc, only then you'll know what processor u'll go after.

Both identical EXCEPT the P45 chipset has two PCIe x16 slots (second slot runs at x8 speeds), usually for CrossFireX support... wink.gif

Note that some P45 motherboards have only one PCIe x16 slot (manufacturer cost cutting). laugh.gif

probably

best time to buy? anytime is not a good time to buy. the market moves too fast. look for q1 of the year where intel usually announce price cuts

lol, maybe this is a pretty noob qn, i oso dun wan to tumpang other ppl thread, i dun wan to create new thread due to my simple qn :s

so its like this..

let say there are 2 procs, dual core n quadcore, same clock speed, same cache size.
so, AFAIK, dualcore perform better in game. but what about quadcore? will it perform the same and let the other 2 cores relax? (non-quadcore utilized game)

not necessarily. most games out there can only utilise one core. not many games are capable of using all of the cpu cores

if the game is written to support multiple cores, damn it will use all the cores all the time

many problems can cause it. if u r saying when u r playing game, two main factors: either your gc overheated or your ram has faulty addresses.

Yay finally found a thread which suits me, a super noob.
A pc noob with a noob question here.
I plan to get a new proc, but dont know AMD or intel is better, but seems lik AMD's price is cheaper than intel.
So AMD's phenom X4 9550 is equivalent to intel's which proc?? I really wana know. And hows AMD's performance compared to intel?
im in dilemma here, hope someone would come up wif some answers..Thx..

give us your budget wink.gif

actually, phenom 9950 (fastest in amd) cant even win q6600 (slowest quadcore in intel)
q6600 is slightly better than 9950, besides, q6600 can be oced to 3ghz, sure will pwn more deep..

intel is a better choice for now smile.gif
but if you want to get amd's quadcore, try wait for phenomII, soon will come out smile.gif but heard that it will come out with ddr3 based mobo, duno true or not =s read read only.. hope some1 can cfm this..

give us your budget wink.gif

actually, phenom 9950 (fastest in amd) cant even win q6600 (slowest quadcore in intel)
q6600 is slightly better than 9950, besides, q6600 can be oced to 3ghz, sure will pwn more deep..

intel is a better choice for now smile.gif
but if you want to get amd's quadcore, try wait for phenomII, soon will come out smile.gif but heard that it will come out with ddr3 based mobo, duno true or not =s read read only.. hope some1 can cfm this..

hmm, my budget is around rm400-450..is amd really that sux??
i saw phenom 9550 price's is almost same as C2D E7300..around rm400-450..Intel is a better choice??

good move from 8600GT 256MB  to ...
nvdia 9500GT with 1GB or ati 4650 with 1GB ?
or 512MB its pretty enough ady ?
For large displays, graphics card with 256-bit wide memory bus is recommended... For example NVIDIA 9600GT or ATi HD3870 at least.. nod.gif

This motherboard can support SLI.. Unfortunately, in your topic you were originally asking about the M790GP-DS4H model, so confusion arises.. hmm.gif

Unfortunately yes, Intel is the better choice especially when it comes to gaming and many other stuff as well. That's because majority number of programs are not quad core optimized, or are just single/dual threaded.. thus a faster dual core would be much more faster for the job. Phenom also has erratic performance due to CnQ sensitivity issues.. Also with Phenom, it is recommended to use (expensive) DDR2-1066 RAM if possible to get full performance. cool.gif

OEM processors normally do not come with stock heatsink (and shorter warranty period), thus its much cheaper. icon_rolleyes.gif

good ventilation (nicely placed fans) is essential to let the heat out

either that or underclock your card when not gaming

if you dun o/c or run it at full throttle for a long period of time, the stock heatsink and fan should suffice. just keep in mind the fan noise is not pleasing though

P45 support CF only, so is other Intel chipsets like X48, X38 and P35...

u want CF and SLI on the same board, u need X58, which is for Core i7...

Added on January 2, 2009, 11:06 pmbtw, the website u provided never mention anything abt SLI leh...

if can have SLI, isn't AMD shooting their own feet???

Nope, Core i7 motherboards use DDR3 RAM only. Your GigaByte Superb "550W" PSU real power is 450W, just adequate only. hmm.gif

Anything 1.6V and higher should be avoided unless its one of those "suicide runs". Also monitor the stability and temperatures when overclocking. icon_rolleyes.gif

ive been told that placing the motherboard upside down like we always do with a BTX or invert-ATX casing, will cause the chipset to be overheated faster than when it is placed normally..is this statement true?

Nope... It still depends on the motherboard and casing design (such as air flow). tongue.gif

this is serious issue

NTLDR is the NT Kernel Loader. essentially the core starter of windows XP

copy the error message code and check the problem solution at Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB)

Open up a thread in technical support if you need more help

If possible, get a screen capture of the error message screen (use digital camera)

Guys i need a budget mobo and PSU for intel quad and ATI 4830.
If possible I want the most affordable price yet usable and durable, but most of them are expensive.my budget for mobo(4ram slots) and PSU is like rm400-450..really run out of cash XD, so any pro wif pro suggestion? super pure noob here ..

Anyway another question is those mobos with 4ram slots comes with 2 different colours, example 2 red , 2 yellow, is there any difference? or is it for different specific ram? or its the same?

actually whats your purpose buying such a high end chipset?are u planning to overclock it or just using it without overclocking? If you are not overclocking, you can buy the g31 built in motherboard.i suggest the gigabyte g31 model which is rm 180.its quite good and can overclock also a bit if u want.I'm using that model also and its really stable. Its 45nm ready. So no need to worry much.If u want to overclock, then its encouragable to take better chipset such as P45.i'm using the g31 motherboard for 24/7 purpose and its really nice.Even our moderator lex strongly recommending it.You can even ask him how good is this motherboard.the disadvantage is this motherboard is 2 slots only.thats all but u can put 2GB x2.I can sure its more then enough.I'm not so concern about power supply.I suggest u ask here about power supply. Its a better option to get accurate answer.

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/376014

The ram slot is using 2 same colours is bcz it allows the ram to run in dual channel.By running dual channel, it increases your computer performance. So by putting 2 sticks of ram into same colour, it allows the computer to run in dual channel mode.Thats what the purpose is.You can get better info from here.Good luck.

you don need a quad intel proc and ATI4830 if budget is such a constraint

get a low end cpu and a basic video card

a usable computer? depends on ur use.

durable? not like ur gonna bring the pc to the jungle with you. 24/7 pc's are more to cooling and ventilation and proper surge protection

u can have a durable, usable and very affordable pc if you steer away from those high end stuff. gor for mid low end, or even the lowest end

let say, im using 1920x1200 @ 27" lcd, 512MB was enough or 1GB ?
light gaming on cs,dota and some decent games, and runs photoshop, dreamweaver and flash ...
a lil' lag while using those application after switch from 22" lcd on my current Gigabyte 8600GT with 256MB DDR2 128Bit,
even with IE / firefox ... 0.0"
As with the other forummers here has agreed upon... Graphics card with 1GB video memory is recommended for 1920x1200 display. nod.gif

QUOTE(xelnamikaze @ Jan 3 2009, 08:38 PM)
want to ask .. 9600GT requires what PSU Wattage ?
Recommended 400W "true power" PSU, with 26A on the +12V rail(s). cool.gif

QUOTE(ktek @ Jan 3 2009, 05:23 PM)
YES, for those "heatpipe cool-ed" chipsets mobo.
heatpipes cannot work properly when you put "terbalik" sleep.gif
They work OK even if you put them "terbalik".. The heatpipe function is to transfer and circulate heat off the heatsink. As I said in one of my previous post, depends more on casing design and airflow.. wink.gif

QUOTE(howyue @ Jan 3 2009, 11:29 PM)
i got several ide & pata hdd, can i somehow plug them into my sata compatible motherboard?
using ide/pata-sata converter? how much? and any side effects?
The SATA to IDE adapter is around RM45... No gurantees it will work properly, depending on HDD differences and SATA port combination (for example some IDE HDDs may not work properly with the adapter). wink.gif

QUOTE(izglory @ Jan 3 2009, 11:07 PM)
Guys i need a budget mobo and PSU for intel quad and ATI 4830.
If possible I want the most affordable price yet usable and durable, but most of them are expensive.my budget for mobo(4ram slots) and PSU is like rm400-450..really run out of cash XD, so any pro wif pro suggestion? super pure noob here ..
You can try...

GigaByte EP31-DS3L mainboard = 260
CoolerMaster Extreme Power Plus 500W PSU (450W real power) = 184

Total: RM444

Just note that the GigaByte EP31-DS3L motherboard maximum memory capacity is 4GB... Its only useful if you are going to use 2GB (2 x 1GB) and later add another 2GB (2 x 1GB) for a total of 4GB.. However, if you are going to use 4GB (2 x 2GB) now then the remaining slots are useless.. wink.gif

If you are looking for more than 4GB, then look for P35 chipset motherboards (costs around less than RM300 nowadays) which supports 8GB memory. Anyway, can you tell us which Intel quad core you are going to use? hmm.gif

QUOTE(izglory @ Jan 3 2009, 11:07 PM)
Anyway another question is those mobos with 4ram slots comes with 2 different colours, example 2 red , 2 yellow, is there any difference? or is it for different specific ram? or its the same?
Those are usually for dual channel matching slots, same color DIMM slots = same channel pair = for a pair of matching RAM sticks... icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the constructive suggestion and infos bro. It really helps. notworthy.gif
Well im either going for C2D e8400 or C2q6600.
hmm, 4GB, lol i guess it isnt enuf for the future. Anyway, if i insert 4 x 1GB ram into the 4 respective slots, would the performance faster than inserting 2 x 2gbram into 2 of the 4 slots?

Oh ya, I just checked my cpu temperature, it was like 73degree, 27 more to boiling point, is it my cpu cooler problem? im still using a pentium 4 processor with its heatsink, is intel's heatsink good? or people usually go buy a better heatsink? around what price range for a affordable yet good heatsink??
and whats the average normal temperature for a cpu?
too many things needed to consider b4 upgrading this junk.. rclxub.gif

Depends on your usage... I'm using 2GB and hardly fully utilize the RAM when browsing, downloading, playing multimedia (video and audio) and running other desktop stuff at the same time. The only time 2GB will be utilized are usually games, as newer ones use quite a lot of memory. 4GB would be considered very adequate for a long time.. tongue.gif

Word... Clean your heatsink.. its probably clogged at top (under the fan).. You only buy a better heatsink if you want to overclock, or your room environment is hot (not much air movement). wink.gif

when you do safely remove hardware it also will detect either your ex.hdd still have program running or not. To avoid accidentally shut down damaged hdd or lose data while still have program running in your ex.hdd.

It's not worthy to get the latest products. Unless you want to brags that you have it earlier than anyone else. The price drop will be very significant.

Speaking of which, is there going to be any price drop for 24" LCD monitor anytime soon? I was hoping it could drop to RM800++ brows.gif brows.gif

dun get thing wrong here

high end pc gaming is not necessary all about the cpu

most important is the graphic cards. invest in a good graphic card

then, your cooling system. a hot system would only allow you to play for a while before artifacts appear

then, it's EXPERIENCE. a large LCD screen, good audio, high quality speakers, gaming mouse and keyboard makes much more difference than a quad core or i7

just remember, gaming isn't all about cpu power. they are just marketing gimmick

i'd rather have a nice gaming experience on a 30" lcd, 7.1 surround sounds and slick gaming gear rather than bragging to others that i played crysis on core i7 and with 15" crt monitor and cheap ipod earphones

dun get thing wrong here
high end pc gaming is not necessary all about the cpu

most important is the graphic cards. invest in a good graphic card

then, your cooling system. a hot system would only allow you to play for a while before artifacts appear

then, it's EXPERIENCE. a large LCD screen, good audio, high quality speakers, gaming mouse and keyboard makes much more difference than a quad core or i7

just remember, gaming isn't all about cpu power. they are just marketing gimmick

i'd rather have a nice gaming experience on a 30" lcd, 7.1 surround sounds and slick gaming gear rather than bragging to others that i played crysis on core i7 and with 15" crt monitor and cheap ipod earphones

ok, sooo. .
q6600 and asus maximus II formula can play all those game smoothly and aso can consider as a high end pc as well??

read about Overclock here,
u will get intel stock cooler if u buy the retail processor,
so no need to buy 3rd patry cooler if not OC..
stock cooler is more than enough brows.gif

Monitor = Output from GC. Games performance effects by resolution. Example : *FPS=frame per second
HD4850 + 17" LCD (1280x1024) = FPS 80
HD4850 + 22" LCD (1920 x 1200) = FPS 60

Better get 22" with that card since you cant really see a real performance that can produce buy your GC if using a smaller LCD. And its not a real problem to if you want to gaming in 17" since you can get a better FPS.

*correct me if im wrong

Depends on the motherboard. Is it the one in your siggy? hmm.gif

Usually yes... The bigger the LCD the higher the resolution (more pixels to render). It also depends on the game.. whether its very demanding or not.. nod.gif

One is a 22", 16:10 ratio,

another is 23" 16:9 ratio,

take your pick

I was a in a similar situation like you today, was about to hentam 2 pieces 2333sw, then i realize the reso provided is somewhat not a native for games.

They are all the same stuff man, they come from a single OEM, just that they are repacked and rebranded, so, doesnt matter which brand you pick, its the same thing as long as the ballast rating is the same, which its usually is.

MCH: Memory Controller Hub, inside northbridge of mobo, take care of CPUs and RAMs
eg. Intel P35, P45, X58 & etc.. big number is better
ICH: Input /Output Controller Hub, inside mobo southbridge, jaga input & output peripherals (mouse, keyboard sound, USB, HDD)
eg. ICH8, ICH9, ICH10 & etc.. big number is better

soo far Intel chipset mobo for LGA775 don't officially support SLi. nVidia lock it from driver.
Core i7 don't have this problem as X58 (LGA1366) do support SLi & CF. BUY BUY BUY rclxm9.gif

i still dun get what you are trying to describe

the psu has two fans - one intake, one exhaust. AFAIK, whatever the casing is, a standard psu will mount with the fans with the exhaust at the rear, and the intake will face the bottom side for ATX casing or up side (BTX casing)

try mounting the psu in ur casing, get a photo and see where it goes

yes, because GDDR communicates with GPU.
not processor or mobo.

chassis is the PC case body. SECC is coated steel (besi)
bezel is the front face. metal mesh you know, ABS is some kind of plastic.

aluminium, the thickness is important (for rigidity and noise insulation).
Cooler Master casings are great value for the look & quality.
just see what you like and take rolleyes.gif up to individual.

think this way:
Intel=brand. Pentium3=series, Pentium4=series, Core=series, Core2=series.
Solo=type, Duo=type, Quad=type. E5200=model, E8400=model, Q6600=model.
clear?
so far Intel make new age "Pentium" series remain 800FSB and maximum of 2MB L2 cache (and they perform pretty much like old P4 machine).
while "Core2" series have everything bigger number than those.

QUOTE(Xehanort @ Jan 15 2009, 11:51 PM)

*

Intel already have 64bit support for consumer PCs since P4 era with EM64T.
however, after the NetBurst (P4 architecture) failed, they remake a new line /series called Core (1st generation, now is Core2).
i don't know what happened, they did not include EM64T for Core Solo /Duo that time.
right now, Core2 (2nd generation) supports EM64T able to run 64bit Operating Systems.

just get a better PSU. it costs less than your graphic cards and serves you much much longer than that

a good psu with high output (check the +12v rails) last 3-4 upgrade cycles, so, it's worth every penny to invest in something good

ok i noticed something today...as u said how to check...ok
let said for Galaxy 9800GT... new 1 comes with 2 SLI gold finger n require 1 PCIE power plug...this shud b 55nm since 55nm power consumption less than 65nm.... in my case, i using Galaxy 9800GT...but mine is only 1 SLI gold finger n required 2 PCIE power plug... ya mine is 65nm... means "revived" 8800GT... but performance vary... sometimes win 8800GT sometimes lose....

Just enough only... The CoolerMaster Extreme 500W PSU real power is 450W. Usually for HD4850 I do recommend (real power) 500W PSU.. You can try and see your luck... sweat.gif

Nope, if its the stock one... Unless its a 3rd party one, then you can check their website and see if they have LGA1366 mounting kits for that cooler. unsure.gif

That Biostar 945GZ Micro 775 SE motherboard does not have a real PCIe x16 slot, if I'm not mistaken.. notice the word "1 x PCI-E x16 Slot (Compatible)", because the 945GZ Northbridge chipset itself does not have PCIe x16 connections. Thus instead the connections for the "PCIe x16 slot" comes from the ICH7 SouthBridge chipset which runs at slower x4 mode only. You can use a number of "compatible" graphics card but will not run at full (x16) speed. For the list of "compatible" cards, check this list. You may need to change the motherboard... hmm.gif

AFAIK, it transfers lossless image data to the TV due to high data transfer rate and doesn't do anything else.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

AFAIK,use dual channel is better (2x1gb) but i dont think you will really notice the difference.(correct if im wrong)

if i am you, i will just get 1x2gb just incase for future upgrade wink.gif

ddr2 era is ending, ddr3 era coming~ grab ddr2 fast while you can ( if you want to use the pc for another 3~5years) tongue.gif

i on the other hand would prefer 2x1gb. just in case if one fails, then at least you still have one stick for you to use laugh.gif or in my case i was able to lend mine to my friend to use temporary coz i had 2x1gb rams.

yeah i would say grab ddr2 now, coz i think that the price now is as low as it gets, just before ddr3 becomes mainstream. when it does, probably ddr2 prices would shoot up, just like what happened to ddr1 when ddr2 came out.

Depends on your PC hardware. Gaming PCs eat a lot of power even when idle... sweat.gif

If afraid of high electric bills then get a dedicated low power PC... like those Atom based desktops (a.g. ASUS EEEPC, MSI Wind, etc), or build one yourself. wink.gif

I suggest you try 1month for your self if you really want to do so. make sure your eyes don be like this when see the bill -> shocking.gif

Well i don't know what you downloading. if you want to reach your download target per day but afraid electric bills.
my advice you upgrade your internet to higher. ( 1Mbps to 2Mbps? ) for more RM30 or RM20 (2Mbps to 4Mbps?) hmm.gif

electric bills is variable between u and forumers due to computer rig, power saving setting etc if you turn on 24/7
I suggest you try 1month for your self if you really want to do so. make sure your eyes don be like this when see the bill -> shocking.gif

Well i don't know what you downloading. if you want to reach your download target per day but afraid electric bills.
my advice you upgrade your internet to higher. ( 1Mbps to 2Mbps? ) for more RM30 or RM20 (2Mbps to 4Mbps?) hmm.gif

I've been wondering, how come a Quad-Core CPU sometimes has a lower clock rate than a Duo one?I thought having more cores makes it faster.

did u open ur PC 24/7?
how about ur electric bills?
average..
*
i have 2 pc turned on 24/7, both eats around 750w (including monitor). including others basic thingy like tv (lcd 40"), washing machine n bla3. bill monthly is around rm200(hardly reach lah)
besides, mind giving out pc spec? i might be able to calculate how much ur pc eat ur money monthly (excluding monitor).. if ure using ctr, move to lcd. it use less power than crt do. crt uses as much as an aircond.

besides, turn on EIST too (for intel proc). for amd, i dunno what they call it.

Just posting on some issue..May or may not related to the topic at all..

Why is the new stuff/hardwares coming out new very2 expensive? This is y.
Noticed how the technologies keep getting better and better? In order to cover the manufacturing cost of the previous product (since even if they sell the old products at production cost, no one will buy it) the manufacturers has must cover the cost by absorbing the price into the new stuff. As simple as that.

Some thing to take notes while buying new stuff..Example when buying a new Graphic card. Noticed how all of them say supports DirectX10? openGL3.0? Blablablabla..Do tell me how many games now are using those stuffs?? Less than 10 right? For the next 3-4 years, IMO is not worth it if your on a tight budget. Instead of getting a 9800, try to get a 8800..LOL. Same goes with a certain intel CPU..i wont tell you guys..You can get it for less than RM300 but still on par with a certain C2D..Problem in msia is that all vendors/shop/sellers are going for the latest stuff. LOL

Marketing strategy no simple as that you know... and also production management.
How on par if with latest stuff compare with old stuff?

There is a reason : because you are already satisfy with your current life / set up / rig or whatever.
unlike some of forumer... even latest still no satisfy yet.
