thinking of copping a pair of flat head, either 3001 or 1001. 14.5oz or 16oz? is it going to be too hot wearing 16oz in our weather?

after all the trouble/time spent to soak my flathead, i would say buy the one wash model instead, when you're buying japanese unsanforized denim..

QUOTE(hedonkop @ Jun 15 2010, 02:22 PM) i think it's more like a trouble than good experience. especially when you're unsure with the size after soaking.. soak with warm water shrink it more, soak with cold water shrink less but it'll have second shrink (eg. flathead) later on and caused all the fade appears in the wrong place..QUOTE(Grimm @ Jun 15 2010, 07:04 PM) raw unsanforized denim required initial soak which made it the same as the one wash model, and you dont have to worry about the sizing at all. a lot japanese unsanforized denim only sell in one wash. This post has been edited by teNtiOn: Jun 15 2010, 10:45 PM |

if we stay near to a shop where we can test all the unsanforized denim, sure why not? but since we need to import them, it's a big no for me. one time experience is more than enough.
the purpose of one wash raw unsanforized denim is just to make sure the denim will not shrink anymore, you will still get all the fades that you want. and from what i heard, unwashed raw unsanforized denim is not even as popular as the one wash model in japan where they can wear it directly without the soak to get the right size and fades that we all want. apc is vanity size so it's a must to size down since a size 28 is actually having a 30 waist measurement, which is normal to size down 2, but that did not applied to all raw denim, especially shrink to fit one.

unless you're real skinny with small thigh and no ass, sizing down more than 2 will just make you fugly..

QUOTE(mofonyx @ Jun 28 2010, 08:09 AM) Easiest is put it in the washing machine INSIDE OUT, set it to NO SPIN, set it to 60degC, DO NOT ADD SOAP FOR YOUR FIRST WASH. no offence but this is plain stupid without even knowing is it sanforized or not on her evisu.Once you're done, flip it OUTSIDE OUT, SQUEEZE as much water as you can out of it (don't want the dye to drip!). NOTE DO NOT WRING IT, just FLAT SQUEEZING. Difficult task indeed. Then hang dry (I usually do bottom to top), best under a shade in sunny weather, BEST LAID FLAT if you have a garden. Otherwise in direct sunlight wouldn't make much of a difference. Enthusiasts will say you boil the dye, but heck, you wear it out daily anyway. after that you can alter. I would suggest against it though because you lose the chain stitch. This post has been edited by teNtiOn: Jun 29 2010, 11:57 AM |

QUOTE(solsekuin44 @ Jun 29 2010, 12:21 PM) I see.. This jeans is sanforized, means don't have to worry much yeah? since it's sanforized, normal soaking is more than enough. you can even wear them without any soaking.Haha, since am new to this, for sure the jeans is being baby-ed. |

QUOTE(hedonkop @ Jul 26 2010, 03:43 PM) i bought from 2nd. they don't speak english but i got the deal done with the help of google translate.. marked down and as a gift with no tax.. staff from vari speak good english, and they mentioned in their rakuten's shop that under declaring is an option. although they don't mark it as a gift, 2500 yen per item will not cost you any tax. plus you can get free union special chain stitching from these 2 shops if you need a hem.. QUOTE(Grimm @ Dec 12 2010, 07:40 AM) One thing to know is, raw jeans are very stretchable. Sizing down a size, would make the fit slightly tight, so the stretch would not be much. Sizing down 2 would make you stretch the jeans more, and the extreme sizing down of 3 would stretch the jeans even more. Personally, I find sizing down 1 or 3 is the same. It would stretch to mould to your leg shape anyway - with less discomfort. this does not apply to all raw denim, maybe you should specify the brand when you're giving advice on sizing. for example, APC is having vanity sizing. the waist size of a 30 is actually 32, which is why you need to size down 2 in order to get a true 30 size.Point to note - different brands have different elasticity. try sizing down 2 on a pair of unsanforized denim like flathead will make you regret of buying it. QUOTE(irmond @ Dec 30 2010, 07:08 AM) Mouth of advice. Don't get Levi's 501 shrink to fit rigid. Never seen/owned Levis STF before, but did you soak/wash it before you wear?the material they used similar to carpet material. which is hard and uncomfortable. If you haven't then there's nothing wrong with the denim. Levis STF is un-sanforized, and you should at least soak it and shrink it before you start wearing. It will soften up only after the soak and wears. The same goes to all other expensive un-sanforized denim like Samurai (unlike sanforized denim like APC, nudie). QUOTE(Balaclava @ Dec 30 2010, 07:51 PM) You can get selvages for RM250? O_O I think the least these babies cost is around RM350 or even higher. you can get a pair of topman/zara selvedge for less than rm200, even under rm150..selvedge is just one of the method to create the edge of denim.. it's the fabric/denim from japan that being used that caused the premium price..
