I think the only type of jeans I would buy online are those I can try out beforehand in person. This means only Evisu (at Parkson Pavillion or any B&B).
Maybe I can find some reason to go to Singapore someday. |

It's incredible the Malaysian market is so primitive when it comes to selvedge jeans.

Looking for your opinions: I've been wearing a 501 for the past two years and now that I've been sensitized to jeans, I would prefer the jeans without the big tan label at the back. If I were to remove it now, there'll be a patch of original indigo blue in its place. Should I, or should I not?

QUOTE(mofonyx @ Mar 7 2010, 06:13 AM) dope fit mate. Why do people do this to their sack?just watch out as Nudies tend to crotch bust. They are a good starter pair, but often disliked by enthusiasts because of the crotch blowout. Of course, you can easily get it repaired should you need to or patch before it busts. |

QUOTE(apple-tea @ Mar 9 2010, 04:41 PM) u dont need to be slender to put on a pair of raw jeans. its just a state of fabric that is unwashed during the manufacturing process. in fact, there are companies that carry raw and selvedge jeans for the plus sized ppl. btw, baggy jeans are ok. but urs.. u look like the michelin man. some next level baggy sh|t ? Michelin man is very appropriate!!!Added on March 9, 2010, 6:40 pmAnd so is baggy shite. This post has been edited by kotmj: Mar 9 2010, 06:40 PM |

I dunno about you guys, but are these things even remotely, eh, comfortable? I saw this guy wearing a pair of jeans so stiff-looking and so tight that I can see the contours of his hamstrings (like most people including me, he has underdeveloped hamstrings). How does he even sit in the thing?
Not to mention the thermal properties of these things... But maybe comfort and ergonomy are secondary to jeans-wearing culture. What would the primary consideration be? This post has been edited by kotmj: Dec 12 2010, 02:55 AM |

QUOTE(attacusatlas @ Dec 25 2010, 11:34 AM) He's DTOing you lah.Added on December 25, 2010, 1:55 pmI cannot help but see this super-tight raw selvedge denim jeans culture as an inevitably short-lived fad. When I was young, the hot thing to have was stone and enzyme washed 501s which you wore till holes developed in the knees. There were the straight cut and the carrot cut (now extinct). Parallel to that was the "faded blue jeans" look. Shops actually sold jeans washed till they were a pale blue. When I was looking for a pair of such jeans some time ago, I found they were extinct. Nobody sold pale blue jeans anymore. I had to source one from the kedai bundle. Next came rapper jeans. These are really loose and baggy jeans that you wore with T-shirts 3 sizes too big for you. A baseball cap worn backwards complete the look. Shortly after that came the "engineered" jeans. These are jeans with gratuitiously complex cuts and seams at unexpected places. A few years after that came the Evisu revolution and the rise of the selvedge jeans. The early models fit like conventional trousers, but the current fashion is to downsize till a phenomenon called "crotch bust" occurs every so often. I wonder what will be next. Added on December 25, 2010, 4:55 pmLet me speculate on what will be next. We have seen the return of quality in jeans. The low point was the early 90s when Levis went into collaboration with Wal-Mart and spewed forth cheap denim: fluffy, fuzzy, short staple length cotton (used for T-shirts and polos). Then came this Japanese guy and his vintage looms and the ascendency of Evisu and with it, the return of quality denim. We saw the proliferation of small brands making quality denim, beginning in Japan, but now a worldwide pandemic. Nobody buys cheaply woven denim anymore nowadays. But what about the trim? Nobody talks about the trim yet. I see the next trend in the introduction of massively made copper rivets and buttons. There is much potential here: compared to classic menswear, jeans still have pathetic trim. Expect to see solidly-made buttons and rivets becoming the object of obsession amongst denimheads. Maybe even -- dare I say it? -- machine-turned buttons on super-expensive jeans. I see the use of contrast materials. Gucci did this under Tom Ford but it kinda fizzed out. I see it being revived: Every male likes to have a burst of colour in a concentrated spot as a peacocking method. You already see this in the form of high-contrast logo embroidery, but going forward it will manifest itself in edge taping and silesia and turn-over waistbands and such. Since the super-slim fit has reached it's zenith (you cannot actually go any slimmer since you cannot get into those jeans), this fad will fade within the next 24 months. So going forwards we will see a looser fit in jeans. Jeans of a colour other than indigo has essentially died out, and the time feels right for a revival of lighter-coloured jeans. All of us need to follow fashion. To think otherwise is naive. We are all trend followers.
Not doing so is suicide. Clothes and behaviour make us belong to certain tribes. We need to belong to these tribes for income, for companionship, for respect and approval. We are human beings, and human beings are social beings, after all. This post has been edited by kotmj: Dec 26 2010, 02:13 AM |
