I got a victorinox, the v25126 model, quite an old one for casual use, costing me about 850, i recommend u to get their metal chain models rather than leather's one (quite easy to break)..

I currently have one tag heuer formula 1, 2 g-shocks... and an casio edifice soon

Seiko Coutura is not available in Malaysia market. Thus Malaysia only have Premier, Sportura, Velatura and Arctura as their Elite collection for Seiko. Grand Seiko or Seiko Spring Drive are market as their Master collection.

Btw Velatura is a great watch.

I have a modest Tissot for formal events and an Archimede Pilot for everday use.

Watches like IWC and Brietling are very nice but I cannot find a reason to spend so much on any astronomically priced watch that can only do so much tongue.gif

What do u guys think?

There's sure a lot of watch threads in lowyat. biggrin.gif

Btw, i had a G-shock for nearly 9 years and it fully went blank on the day i bought my Tag Heuer. I asked one shop and they said no point changing the battery because it might stop after few days. cry.gif

I can't use the automatic watch for sports and gym. Looking for alternatives. Any suggestions? Budget lesser than Rm500.

Hey all,

Like Feed, I'm looking for something that's chronograph and has the classic look. I prefer metal chain/frame kinda thing. Budget, within 1-2k.

Was looking at Tissot when the sales dude at the shop was telling me I should look at Swiss Army as well. He was saying that comparing the the low end ones of the 2 brands (i.e. my budget), Swiss Army has better quality, in terms of material at least.

Any comments or suggestions/recommendations? Would prefer to avoid Seiko as it's rather common, unless something really nice pops up.

Seiko chronograph titanium or Tissot PRC200 (any model). After discount both having approx the same price around 1k.

Liked the new tissot racing but over my budget. lol

I'm a Timex fan. I bought my first Timex 15 years ago. Currently I have 4 Timex, including 1 heart rate monitor.

Why I like Timex ? Becoz it's affordable & AFAIK, there are no fake Timex. Sometimes with those branded ones, e.g. Tag, Tissot, etc, ppl will give U the can-this-guy-really-afford-this-watch-mustbe-using-fakes kinda look.

I use a Ball Trainmaster Moonlight Special (only 999 pcs in the world) for work and a Tag Heuer Classic 2000 Multigraph for rough use and on holidays (since it is waterproof).

Am looking around for a reasonably priced square face watch with a bit of complications in the movement (if possible).

i am not sure if you can remove scratches from a bracelet. you may have to change the bracelet itself.

About the bracelet, it could be preference . tongue.gif I was going to get a Carrera actually because i've been eyeing on that for a long time until my parents said i'm not going to use the chrono. Then the saleslady agreed with them and recommended one that will suit my usage. That's where the link came in biggrin.gif

Tag Heuer recently updated a few of their models. Aquaracer, Carerra and the SLR if i'm not mistaken. Carrera still looks presentable but the Aquaracer looks weird to me especially with the date on the left.

A few pics of mine.

I asked about polishing at the Tag Heuer Boutique!

Quite rare i use the Chrono function aha just like it to be complicated on the dials=p

there was once where i was in Hong Kong and it was the last day for me there so i took MTR (Malaysia would be LRT) and i timed from destination A to B to C how long it would take

so i know when do i need to leave from destination C to A haha and it worked biggrin.gif lol! Glad i got the chance to use the chrono =p

haha Great watch!

yeahh TAG heuers are really innovative! i really like the Calibre S line

check it out http://www.tagheuer.co.jp/collection/2009s...a_cals_laptimer

it's much cheaper than a normal carrera, my bet is its not a mechanical watch T_T but i love it very much haha

Bro, I've got the same exact watch that you have. As well as the same problem.
only worse. the snap for my bracelet is broken.

I've asked around and the Polishing/Refurbishing will cost RM300-400.
The bracelet is almost RM300 as well.
Plus the bezel, another RM300.

so in the end, congratulations, you just got your self another Tissot PRS-200. thumbup.gif

I think buying anything replica will never come close to the same thing, Please bare in mind that replica's are made with labour intense from child labour to force labour. money from buying replica products are chanel to various illegal activity.
Please do not support this activity.

people will know if the watch is a replica one when they hold it, see it, and feel it.

generally, nobody will pull your wrist over to check out whether the watch is a genuine or not. so, at a quick glance in the social event, the replica watch does look like a genuine watch.

i have known many professional fields people age above 40/50 years old own replica Panerai, PP, A. Lange & Sonne, IWC, Cartier, FM etc watches.

what cars are they driving? ...Lexus, Mercedes, Audi, BMW..etc and even one owns a ferrari.

will people say they are wearing a replica watch?

The matter here is not whether someone will know or not you are wearing a replice, the matter is about principal, moral and dignity.
If one can drive all the cars you mention and yet buys replicas it clearly shows the mentality of the said person.

if you have extra 200k in cash, will you buy a car, a house or a watch? smile.gif

throughout the conversation with those people, they say themselves will not wear a 200K watch everyday for work.

replica watches and replica bags are everywhere in town.

if you spend your time on sunday in any shopping mall, you may notice there are so many LV owners, Gucci Owners... how many of those are owning a genuine bags?

well sorry to interrupt..

IF those ppl will not wear a rm200k watch for work, then don't.. just buy a TAG or something which is genuine instead buying a fake patek..

and yes, i know there are alot of ppl who owns fakes.. maybe they have the money but they just don't want to splurge on things which are not important BUT at the same time they want to show off.. so it clearly will tell u what kind of a person he/she is

well for me, i do own 2 fake stuff BUT i do tell ppl that it is fake AND i do not go around showing it off tongue.gif maybe coz i have my own principal.. i'd rather buy something lower end than buying a fake LV bag or coach bag or burberry bag AND carrying it around showing off to the public..

just my 2 cents

From what you say its pretty simple if you can't afford it then dont flaunt it. Why is there a need to use a fake item when you know its fake? to show off? self satisfaction? or plain losers?

If you can't afford something branded then dont use it. Simple.

buying fakes especially those AAA grade might fool some ppl but sure it cant fool urself os an owner

its juz like having a normal gal as gf or having a damn sexy ahkua as gf.... others might not know s(he) is an ahkua n compliment u but deep down inside u noe u r missing something important > genuine

if u cant go for the top then stick to ur ability ... a seiko might not b as good as a tag as opposed to rolex but it does do its job really well. upgrade when u got the $ n this might b a motivator for u to work harder thumbup.gif ( my supplier oways find me to look at car like lexus , he say although he cant afford it now but drool.gif at the car is his motivator to find more business thumbup.gif ... we called this session as motivation trip tongue.gif )

don't buy somethings that you cant afford, myself never buys fake stuff just to boost image lol. it would be so embarrass when you get busted. i never owned a luxurious watch but i plan to get a rolex GMT master or sea dweller in the future. at the mean time, i will stick with my fossil watch biggrin.gif

the reason why i dont buy fakes / replicas is because i will never support the black market.

Vcds, Dvds i've stopped purchasing them when I was in college..

Im happy and proud that I own a TAG Heuer and would like to own a Patek 10 years down the road when i am 33..

Btw to all Existing TAG Heuer owners, go down to KLCC on the 7th - 12th and get a free gift! To those who wish to own a TAG Heuer they do have promotions there! Check out the star today (6/4/2009) page 23 i think

cheers!

the reason why i dont buy fakes / replicas is because i will never support the black market.

Check out the star today (6/4/2009) page 23 i think

cheers!
*
One thing i don't really understand. 10% off nett retail prices means 18% standard discount + 10%? Sounds like it's too much.

p/s: Are u going? tongue.gif

I went on Saturday and i got a cap. I reached there sharp at 1130am and the queue was already long. Half way through, many disappeared. I didn't really care until an old man and his daughter in front of me reached the counter. Guess what? The man asked "What's the free gift?" At the same time the daughter said, " daddy, daddy, you must have a Tag Heuer." I was laugh.gif Simply line up to collect anything they can. biggrin.gif

Btw, the discount was quite good for new Tags. I wished i waited, could have saved Rm527. cry.gif

people will know if the watch is a replica one when they hold it, see it, and feel it.

generally, nobody will pull your wrist over to check out whether the watch is a genuine or not. so, at a quick glance in the social event, the replica watch does look like a genuine watch.

i have known many professional fields people age above 40/50 years old own replica Panerai, PP, A. Lange & Sonne, IWC, Cartier, FM etc watches.

what cars are they driving? ...Lexus, Mercedes, Audi, BMW..etc and even one owns a ferrari.

will people say they are wearing a replica watch?
*
not everyone who owns lexus, merc, audi and bmw are rich people

those 200k watches are for "super/ultra" rich people not the average rich people.. some of them just barely earn 10k

depends on interest and priority i guess..

a person who drives a 500k car does not neccesarily makes more money than a person who drives a 300k car ..

but paying of a car with bank finance at cost of hundred thousand is nothing compared to getting a watch at 200k .... i doubt the bank will ever lend out 200k for a person to buy watch .. and i doubt anyone would be crazy enough taking loan to buy 200k watch... (my point is most people u see driving merc/lexus/audi and bmw are financed by bank)

so inconclusion people who can afford 200k must definately be multimillionaire...

my guess those friends of yours who drive lexus, merc, audi and bmw are prolly just super rich wannabes lol

nice one santa! smile.gif

don't buy somethings that you cant afford, myself never buys fake stuff just to boost image lol. it would be so embarrass when you get busted. i never owned a luxurious watch but i plan to get a rolex GMT master or sea dweller in the future. at the mean time, i will stick with my fossil watch biggrin.gif
*
yes! fossil watch has nice design. and its affordable. I own one and bought one for my gf. So both of us have a pair. Do you think fossil can give us commission because promoting their brand? haha.

fake stuffs be it AA or AAA grade would never ever beat the original. Sometimes buying fake expensive watch i.e panerai and wear it makes you feel stupid.

People always relate your assets with your career. For instance; if you wear 200k watch, definitely you must be super millionaire to buy it. But if you are just a normal makan-gaji worker like me, and suddenly you wear fake watch that is in actual price is 4 times your monthly salary, people will know its a fake or worst people will think you steal it or are some kinda taking bribe type of guy for a living.

It doesnt make you look smarter, but dumber.

offtopic: I have this one cleaner in my office own a FENDI shade. And its original. When i asked him, he said some Datuk give it to him. He was a part time body guard for this Datuk so one day he was in this Datuk's office, he saw the shade and Datuk just said - "If you want it, just take it, but dont sell it to anybody". And he wears it everytime he cleans the office.

Imagine mopping a floor with "XXXX Cleaning Services" shirt and wearing original FENDI shade. LOL.

Hi New to this thread and forum as well.....
totally agree with hcktr....if you can't afford an original luxury just go for a genuine average watch......because how bad it is...it's still original.

I always believe it's best to get an original. Expensive? Buy something within your range/budget. Tissot and Seiko are good affordable watches.

If someone claims he/she has a Tag/Rolex and gets busted coz it's fake, imagine how embarrassed they must feel.

What's so good about original? Quality, reliability and most importantly self satisfaction. Will you be satisfied if you own something fake that has no quality but bears famous brands?

I need to repair my Franck Muller as the knob to adjust the time/date is faulty. Is it even worth sending to anywhere in KL cause I doubt their shop in KLCC can do much other than send it off for repair. I don't even want to guess what repairing would cost.

Last time my Baume & Mercier needed a new leather strap and I had to get one from Singapore cause locally it seems most brands have only retail but no proper after sales support/servicing.

Note: I've never bought an expensive watch, didn't pay for any of my watches basically handed down entry level models.

my mom has a rolex but when she wear it out, peoples tend to think it's fake anyways lol... i always feel like we malaysians have that attitude if they cant afford it, they say your stuffs are bad just to make themself feel better...

yes of course, and can do it with a touch of class.. I'm using the tag daily cos it's for "rough" use.. scratch also not worried.. while the other 2 are like scratch magnets..
surprisingly rolex is also "rough" use type, doesn't get scratched often and can take hard knocks on the mechanism daily.. my SUB/YM/DJ all have been daily watches one time or another...

this series very confusing the automatic got 2 version, one is 8k + (date only) and mine (got day/date) is 10k retail (before discounts) ... (how to see, the cheaper one is round chrono buttons, mine is rectangular buttons and the steel bracelet clamps is different)

also,
checked already, should be the "quartz" chrono calibre S if 8k..

Calibre S is different. The 8k is the picture below, it's a new model using Calibre 5. It replaces the Aquaracer 300m.

In response to an earlier question I'd say the Omega Seamaster 300M is about RM6500 or so for the quartz movement and RM11-12k for the automatic movement. I'd say get the black faced automatic movement. It's nice and chunky. Lot of weight to it. Furthermore its what James Bond uses. Let the rest go for TAG-Heuer.

yes of course, and can do it with a touch of class.. I'm using the tag daily cos it's for "rough" use.. scratch also not worried.. while the other 2 are like scratch magnets..
surprisingly rolex is also "rough" use type, doesn't get scratched often and can take hard knocks on the mechanism daily.. my SUB/YM/DJ all have been daily watches one time or another...

nah cause i read your last post you said your cartier all for day use. anyways, i'm only tag user , cant get the higher end ones.

another brand i fancy is oris, the full CF williams F1 watch is damn sexy. ohmy.gif

Hey guys may need some help here...

I was wondering whether Aquaracer Calibre S 300meters glass is tampered glass?

Im a outdoor guy...im worry that i scratch my watch if i get this model.

What about the rubber strap? Will it get quite dirty in long run (with dirt) or harden?

Thanks

had a chance to compare my frens F1 oris.. not sure what version.. but I think it's the 6-7k retail price one..

the case/bracelet built quality general finish and feel, not as good as the 8-10k tags.. (more toward those 3-4k watches range)

The Omega Seamaster and Speedmaster are about 41mm. Not too big. They look discreet yet big enough.

The Seamaster i'm looking at is mid-size 36mm, and i've seen it in real life and that would fit my wrist better, it's a shame i'm really that small boned otherwise i would also take other models.

you really need to check out the proper size of the watch for your wrist from the counter.

big wrist + mid-size 36mm = looks small

small wrist + 41mm size = looks big

At the moment, shops generall say like 25%, not too sure how much more you can squeeze out of them. But yea, wondering if the sales will result in further discount.

Anyone? =p

I don't think there is any special discount during mega sales. Free gifts is possible.

The standard discounts i think:
Omega - 10%
Oris - 25%
Tissot - 10%
Tag - 18%

As far as i know, the most we can get from Tag dealers are 18%-20%. Calibre S is a very sophisticated watch while automatics are generally watches that have the sweeping effect without battery. Calibre S can use the same numbers in the chrono dial to show the date and work as a chronograph watch. Truly remarkable. tongue.gif

Calibre S is more complicated and advanced in terms of technology. There are tons of automatics ranging from Rm4k to Rm13 i think. You have to decide whether you like Aquaracer, Carrera, Link, Monaco or the Grand Carrera smile.gif

Although I'm not a motogp fan and I don't even watch motogp, the color of the watch and the design strikes me.. but for the tag heuer, almost same price.. but it's a tag..
Am still deciding whether want to get one of these .. between those 2, one is design another one is the brand name.. unsure.gif hard to decide..

I got to agree with dawson sim, Tag Heuer F1 can match any occasion. You must also decide whether the bezel on the Tissot watch is useful for you. IMO, the price is quite high for a Tissot.

For daily use, I think Tag will be more practical.

Let me help u out with your questions.

Tag Heuer SLR Calibre S Laptimer Chronograph
Steel Bracelet =rm13850
Rubber Strap= rm13400

Aquaracer Calibre S
Steel Bracelet= rm7850
Rubber Strap= rm7400

Formula 1 Grand Date Chronograph (Kimi Raikkonen Limited Edition)
Steel Bracelet= rm5450
Rubber Strap= rm5250

From the statement as mentioned above, you might get 18~30% discount from various grand period (sale)

Anyway guys, normally will you go for rubber strap or steel? im thinking which is more preferable for clothes attire?

@ terencetoo

IMHO, steel strap goes well with casual, daily lifestyle whilst the leather strap blends in well with formal attires.

and the rubber strap is a bit too kiddo-ish (if there is such a word)

Well, for their steel strap....i dont see a nice and elegant pattern...all kind of looks....wired...
For Rubber...i mean...u can say kiddy...but who come all those shops they are showing rubber strap? the trend now?

a few hundred extra could get steel strap ..That is the prob.... sweat.gif

I don't think there is any special discount during mega sales. Free gifts is possible.

The standard discounts i think:
Omega - 10%
Oris - 25%
Tissot - 10%
Tag - 18%
*
Hi guys, can any "insider" help to share the max discount % that we can get for Tag and Omega? i would like to get a new watch soon, this info would be very very helpful. thanks so much in advance.

the price is too expensive for IWC, but it is really a great watch! If for collection purposes, might as well buy replicas one =) one original IWC price can buy many replicas of almost the same quality..lol..

Just realise this thread..
My fren owns a Tissot T-touch (night rider)I think is that model after googling it.
is there any t-touch model looks like that 1???
He told me his dad bought from China and all the function works well.
BOXLESS...
He asked me whether its genuine so I come to ask from sifus how to check whether a genuine tissot or fake or theft?

There could be a serial number somewhere and i guess you could contact tissot to confirm if genuine or not, but from china no box, very doubtful

The price is around RM580

It has miyota 21 jewel automatic movement, hardened mineral see through back and 2 years warranty. It's inspired by rolex submariner.

Sounds good?

The nautica is quite masculine because the size is very big. I just worried bout their brand reputation because nautica seems not a watch maker.

For the seiko, this model is the best among others seiko category, but it just not that rugged.

still confuse!!!!

I guess depends on what type of watch material, if steel back, then no problem...

rolex have the green sticker.. can leave it there or can tear it out.. personal preference, after a while green also will fade off..

quartz watch can tahan a long time. just make sure U service it every 3yrs (battery change).
just that sometime after battery change, watch somehow not running. easily cost me $300 to perform a full service from AD.
My Tag has been running for over 15yrs.

serivce interval is 4-5yrs.
charges varies from brand, complications, AD or private watch maker.

eg: a rolex can cost $1000 to get it service thru AD.
doing it outside thru a private watch maker perhaps just 200, if U trust his work.

if your watch has a normal ETA heart, its easy to get work done in a private watch maker.
otherwise U might wanna go back to AD.

hi guys, need to get some info from you guys here.

a friend of mine owe me couple of thousands and i received an used omega speedmaster as part of the repayment. i want to know how much does it worth and if it is easy to sell this off. i have not decided it's value but i was told at least RM 4k. another issue is NO BOX & NO PAPER. a watch by itself.

a quick search from the net, here is the details.

The case is the familiar Speedmaster design, with the familiar faceted lugs, tachometre bezel and acrylic crystal. It does have an Omega logo embossed on its centre, though. Crown has an Omega logo embossed on the surface.

Dial and Hands:
The eye catching dial is done in deep yellow enamel. All markings are black enamel. Hands are black, for the main time display, hours minutes and seconds, while the chronograph hands are a deep blood red. the whole outside surrounded by a distinctive white minutes track, which is bears a distinct resemblance to a checkered flag. The whole dial has a very racy feel.

Date of release 1996
Launched at Kerpens Karting Curcuit in Michael Schumachers home town

hi guys, need to get some info from you guys here.

a friend of mine owe me couple of thousands and i received an used omega speedmaster as part of the repayment. i want to know how much does it worth and if it is easy to sell this off. i have not decided it's value but i was told at least RM 4k. another issue is NO BOX & NO PAPER. a watch by itself.

a quick search from the net, here is the details.

its a pretty old watch and without papers the value will depreciate, keep it if u still decide to sell it u might u loose more than half of the said value. It might catch value one day if it becomes a collectors item.

if I were U, I will get a watch maker and open the back to see the movement.
Omega plenty of fake around. Not like its a 1960s vintage.

if its a real watch, no box no papers... resale value very low.
my take is get the retail value and give it a good 75% down from there. Thats how much it worth if U do sell it to preown. (if the watch does have plenty of scratches, U are losing more value)

for new omega watches there is a serial number engraved into the case at the back, it's quite small and according to their website you can send them that number and they will confirm if it's a genuine one or not.

thanks guys for the assistance.

okie dokie... i'll get that check asap, any watch shop will do?

there are couple of the same models up for grabs on the net asking sgd1800 (no box& paper), usd1199, gbp1000...
if the watch is real can i conclude that it is worth only rm3K max? not likely that the bugger will accept if i will only take its worth for rm2k.... pity the fella also la...

well, if i sell at rm3k how would be the possibility to find a willing buyer? my concern is to recover my money as the bugger is drying up fast with his valuable.... not to mention cash...

btw, i'm wearing tissot now and this 'omega' is quite something to me. for the value of rm 3k, assuming i'm buying from someone, worth to buy or not?

ya.. max U can bring in is RM3K. if U sell it to pre-own shop usually the price U get is lower. they always claim they need to do some servicing and that cost them money.

this Econ, if U are selling lower no problem getting a buyer. else no gurantee man!
if I were U, if its real and U don't need that RM3K today, keep it and wear it!
wait a few yr when the Econ bounce back then consider selling it, might fetch a better price.

true, but don't expect Omega to reply your email in 3 days.
I had email Zenith to check serial number and it took a good mth!
finding a watch maker is much faster!

skinny person?
shape don't matter! size/dimensions matter!
round but diameter is at 45mm and thickness is 12mm vs 37mm and thickness of 7mm.

cube? where to find? U know what cube means? all sides same length! power ranger watch?

U got to get treated leather, they don't stinks...
ANONIMO leather straps are found in many of their diver watches.
special patent processing method to let leather endure sweat and harsh sea water.
then again they cost alot! very much depends on how much U are paying.

I used to wear those RM30 Casio digital watch when i was a kid.. since then, i dun have a watch and never wwear one since then..

After collecting bullets for so many years, recently I decided to get a Tag Heuer with a budget around 3k. I had visited Watatime in Sunway Pyramid, however, I couldn't get a TH since the one that suits my budget are either running on quartz or the older models. For a budget of 3k, I would rather put my $$ on an automatic than a quartz (just my personal preference smile.gif ) .

At last, saw this shop called The Moment and got my first ever automatic watch "Oris Williams Formula One Team Day Date 2008".

Retail price was RM4100 but got 25% discount which equals to RM3075, just nice thumbup.gif

Not many people talking about Oris, its a very good brand as Oris only produce Automatic watches wink.gif

Love my watch, admire the movement, adore the ticking sound (summore got vanilla smell from the strap laugh.gif )

very practical person! why drive a BMX if a Proton can also take U from place A to B! better yet, public transport can do that already!
Why big house, waste Electric on Air Con.. esp when when sleeps only take up so much space.

I say better yet don't need a watch! just use your mobile! No need to sync time even when u go overseas. provider will update it for it!

Congrats on your Oris purchase!
yes they only produce automatic watches, in the past its 100% ETA today to lower the cost of manufacturing they getting Sellita movement.
Nothing wrong with that, patent on ETA 2428 expired and Sellita is making the same movement branding it SW 200.

my Dad wore a Oris big crown complication (moonphase) great watch.
just make sure U oil/clean the movement every 4-5yrs!

what here missed is Epos! They make only mechanical watches, plenty of display back. for higher range even have blue screws!
price range is decent, in Southeast Asia, there is only Malaysia has a distributer!
found a online dealer base off in KL http://www.orolus.com/epos.shtml

those fallen in love with blue screws, for a great deal try Stowa. They do not make many watches. Do need to order 1st and wait for mths to get a watch!
http://www.stowa.com/

other brands that are overlooked... Louis Erard (discount these days range from 30-50%), JeanRichard.. many AD clearly old stock giving as high as 65% discount to make way for their inhouse JR1000 movement. grey market can even find it go as high as 80%!

1) only if u are familar with brands and products. Who will tell U flat out its out dated!

2) no way to accurately find that out too. back of watch only tell U so much. if its swiss/jap movt.. if nothing welcome CHINA!
not all China are bad, I only like seagull watches, maybe the best brand there. However they have quality issue. must buy from reliable dealer.
This is the only 1 I know http://www.usseagull.com/

to learn about chinese stuff try here
http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=146865

other brands like Kenneth cole, Alpha, Trias that contain a chinese movement.
http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=207787

seeking a affordable watches, should try www.pmwf.com many ppl looking for reliable watches

3) depends on product lah. thats common sense. U are comparing apple and orange! new Proton vs 20yr old BMW???

U should read this! for me if its at 50% off get a inhouse movement montblanc nicolas rieussec!!! not some mod movement.
according to the reading below the steel on alligator strap retails at US$9700, and full steel bracelet at us$10K.
display back U can see how pretty is the movement compared to a valjoux 7750! a usual timewalker chrono on leather retails at around us$6K. I wonder if those on valjoux 7750 have blue screws! for such expensive watch I kinda demand blue screws.

montblanc nicolas rieussec review!! even its steel white, still a beauty!

a timewater GMT Chrono review

I thought your bonus big big man! aiming for a timewalker chrono retail in already US$6k, thats why I said add us$4K and hit the nicolas rieussec.
50% US$3k vs US$5K not much diff and U are getting a lot more from a watch.

if U are aiming for RM$10-13K then is like US$3.7K. can only get u time walker day (no chrono leh), entry level watch. also running on a Mod ETA workhorse. no Display back.
just paying for brand only. mont blanc also moving towards making all inhouse movement in the near future aiming to move up the lux ladder.
http://www.watchseller.com/motibigda.html

or shop grey market, can definately get more than 50% discount!
this Maurice Lacroix Master Reserve De Marche retails US$4200 now at US$1690. (its manual winding)
http://www.collectorstime.com/new-watches.php

Perrelet is a expensive brand (brand that invented automatic watch), a manufacture all inhouse movement.
U can only afford the entry level watch.
3 Hands Date retails US$2690. I like the design Ref A1000/5 black face. U can only find a pic on webby.
pretty low production if I recall correctly. only 1 place carry this brand.

neither not here nor there, might as well get a higher end of a mid range brand like longines. also uses ETA.
Can easily afford a Master power reserve, Chrono, GMT! at least with 1 complication and does have blue hands. dress watch like timewalker i dig blue! I rather go for a Power Reseve Indicator, U get to use it for freq than Chrono, GMT.
http://www.authenticwatches.com/longines-m...n-bracelet.html
bad thing with longines, movement are not decorate very nicely. Do have display back.
http://www.prestigetime.com/item/Longines/...666.4.78.3.html

or an Omega with co-axial escapement. don't have to service watch so often pretty much like every 10yrs. (can screw the display back in this case!)
u do know most watches do need servicing every 4-5yrs. regular ETA with time, day. date maybe cost $200-300, complications cost more $$ and longer time.

of course inhouse movement also means U can only get parts thru AD, servicing cost maybe higher if require part change.

Retail price was RM4100 but got 25% discount which equals to RM3075, just nice  thumbup.gif

user posted image

Not many people talking about Oris, its a very good brand as Oris only produce Automatic watches  wink.gif

Love my watch, admire the movement, adore the ticking sound (summore got vanilla smell from the strap  laugh.gif  )

I am aiming for an Oris watch for a very long time. My targeted model is the F1 as well but with a simpler dial face. The retails price is RM4.2k and with a normal discount of 25%, it will be RM3,150.

Anybody know where I can get better bargain on the watch? I am also open for suggestion. Anybody can suggest me a better bargain of watch I can buy with my budget, pls do let em know. This is my first expensive watch and I dont wanna spoil it.

Thanks friend.

My dream watch is a Dornblueth. It's made largely by hand by Dirk Dornblueth, a second generation East German watchmaker. His watches are the best implementation of an aesthetic the Germans call the B-Uhr (Beobachtungsuhr) or Observation Watch. Prices start at RM 18k, which is why it will remain a dream for now. Here are some pics, as antidote against all the super sporty, techno sports watches on this thread.

expensive taste..
I love inhouse movement.. blue screws... but the movement kinda plain.. not much engraving going on. very true to German style like A. Lange & Sohne, GLASHUTTE ORIGINAL and Nomos, still waiting to find out more on GLASHUTTE UNION. read they also use inhouse but they only sell their watches in 3 European countries and do not do any internet sales!

anyway, prices start at RM 18K at retail? saw online on watchbuys prices starts around US$3.5K.

prices always go up.. JLC reverso was my dream when I was 20yrs old.. saw it in SG cost only SG$1.5K today I suppose around SG$5K after discount loh..
anyway, 1 fine day U will see your dream come true! I saw mine on my wrist.. a little JLC reverso duo day/nite.. an upgrade from my 1st dream watch. LOL

Plain? Well it *might* look plain-ish (though I can't see how it is plain) because there are only two bridges visible. The three-quarter plate dominates. The three quarter plate used to be a big deal back when watches were assembled by hand, because to get all the wheels in the right position before capping them with one big plate required more work and skill from the watchmaker. As recently as year 2001 Dornblueth used to make them with antiquated pre-war machines (he would trade his watches for machines) and plenty of elbow grease. He is much wealthier now, and actually employs people. Back then, it was only he and his father working from home.

Added on July 25, 2009, 10:49 amBut really, Dornblueth is out of my league for now. If it wasn't for this year's economy, I could have a Grand Seiko through my bonus. But there won't be much of a bonus this year.

hey at least u have bonus, I have none! else I would have gotten a JLC Atmos Clock

I knew they are part of the swatch group. Glashutte Union is kinda in the lines of Omega..
To carry on the Glashütte name, I doubt they are getting ETA movement from swiss. Maybe heavily mod those movement.
or maybe like Longines, getting exclusive movement from ETA (like the new retrograde watches). Leverage on their R&D and manfact.
at least I would think they would leverage swatch distrubtion network, but still they only sell in 3 European countries.
zero online except chrono24.com

anyway.. their movement according to swatch

thanx for sharing the history of Dornblueth! alot of mechanical movement in that region seem to share the same style. the reason I say its plain, cause some swiss manufacture will engrave the 3/4 plate. So at 1st glance to me it appeared plain. sweat.gif

Grand Seiko? the price pt also along the lines with Dornblueth. Bonus big big man! plain 1 already 280K yen b4 tax.. of course can get discount, and siam tax! add a date display the price jump so much! love their spring drive!

No, not Spring Drive. I like manual wind watches, so it has to be the SBGW0001 for me. About RM 11,600 from Seiya.com.

another 1-2K more can own a Dornblueth on Calibre 99.0 man! still so humble and say Dornblueth unattainable. U looking for the regulator or those complications?

not sure if U read this IWC vs Dornblueth 99.1 review

this is on Dornblueth 99.2.. power reserve

automatic use a spring, of course they aren't as accurate as quartz kinetic. do lose/gain some sec every 24hrs. don't wear for 2 days and watch stop
kinetic use a capacitors/battery.. changing kinetic energy to electric to power the watch. older kinetic watches do have problems with capacitors cannot retain energy.

another 1-2K more can own a Dornblueth on Calibre 99.0 man! still so humble and say Dornblueth unattainable. U looking for the regulator or those complications?

not sure if U read this IWC vs Dornblueth 99.1 review
http://www.watchbizz.com/archive/wt_2006_0...2006_02_058.pdf

this is on Dornblueth 99.2.. power reserve
http://www.watchbizz.com/archive/wt_2005_0...2005_02_068.pdf

I have to agree GQ is bad!

Dornblueths are more expensive than you think. He has been raising prices non-stop. I'm looking at the 99.1. A USED 99.1 is comparable in price with a Grand Seiko SBWG001. Nice articles there! You seem really in touch with watches; your repertoire in this field is large.

I really miss having a proper watch. I don't wear one now. When I was a student, my best watch was a basket case of a 50's Longines I bought off eBay. Gawd, I loved that thing. Here are some before and afters.

When I received the watch it was all gunked up. Every crevice was filled with human gunk. The previous owner smoked; that smoke tarred the dial. Here, I cleaned off a corner of the dial.

The movement is the highlight. It's the Longines 23 Z. It's made in the 50's, so no CNC, CAD, ISO shit here. The human touch.

I found the watch very comforting to own and to wear. Especially in difficult moments. I looked forward to winding it every night.

Added on July 27, 2009, 12:41 amI also restored the movement by myself.

not the entry level 99.0. wub.gif ... 99.1 more expensive by a good US$600. not found a brand that is keeping prices low.
if Seiko don't jack up prices as fast might as aim for a 99.1. the longer U wait, the dream seem to go further away. Today, I doubt salary increase is that fast.

not seen much pre-own Dornblueth around. can pt me to a site where they have them?

Darn! U restore the movement! I also wanna learn some basics. there is a school near by that teach entry level watchmaking upon completing can apply for the Rolex Diploma program. Still trying to find out how to enroll.
was reading around, some started using a China Unitas 6497 (Asian 6497).
timezone has a online school program.. care to share how U learn? that I really have no idea.

FYI: Chopard LCU is working on a 10Hz Escapement out of silicon. double Zenith El Primero.
I love Ranftt site, tons of vintage watches and movements.

if the watch stop then how to make it start back? shake it?

don't be confuse.. ask and I will try my best to explain.
if automatic watch stop, U can wind the crown and it will start movement.
A light shake will start it.

An Kinetic watch, the battery should keep the watch running for a longer period of time.

A Swatch watch, expect Standard Grade movement, so expect it to gain/lose a max of 12 secs every 24hrs.
Kinetic quartz.. maybe 1 mth 1-5 secs (didn't check just on top of my head).

I'll be magnanimous and tell you my unvarnished opinion. Are you ready for it? Nah, I don't think so. Therefore: It's a nice little Seiko that fits current taste in watches. Plenty watch enough for most people. Those philistines.
Ouch! U and andrew1st may have a nice generation gap. young ppl today wants a watch that is complex, have the wow factor.
In fact my best friend also think such watches are cool.. gave him a Atlantic Vintage 1960s watch don't really appreciated mechanical.
still fancy a quartz watch pack with features, perpetual calander, power reseve, date/day etc.
today plenty of ppl in Uni wants brand! rather get a cartier, Tag.. ppl will recong

yes, u can! don't mind a few/dozen more. u're welcome to ask.

not seen a fake swatch. I don't thinking buying on ebay is a problem. IIRC I bought my swatch Irony on ebay, till this day its still good.
buying on ebay, no gurantee. cheapest 1 I saw is US$139 + shipping.
do note, its plastic do scratch easily. need to buy PolyWatch Scratch Remover to remove scratches.

u're a nice gf! he is lucky guy!

Hello!! LowYatians!

I am about to get my 2nd mechanical watch!

I fell in love with this watch the sales girl showed me last week

it is a ZENITH GRANDE CHRONOMASTER OPEN EL PRIMERO XXT MENS WATCH

Heres the link on how it looks like : http://www.authenticwatches.com/035.html

I would like some comments from some sifus here smile.gif

I know zenith use to sell movements only then after that they started selling watches, this watch is using zenith own in-house movement.

Is this watch worth RM 18.8k?

because my previous watch was using an eta movement and many say it wasnt worth the money.

Thank you:D

Zenith under the new CEO (the Moroccan guy) has become something of a joke to those who knew the old Zenith. They were the most aggressive in making pocketwatch-sized wristwatches with the sort of extroverted design that appeals to teenagers. Yeah, I know, generation gap and all. But I'm in my mid to late twenties myself. Not that old yet.

Swatches are great watches for what they are meant to be: casual, fun and affordable. There are no successful fakes. Most of them are plastic, though not all. Your BF will like them. Those on ebay might have been worn before. Or they might be new. Be sure to ask.

Added on July 27, 2009, 9:13 pmRegarding used Dornblueths: It's a German watch, with a German heritage, so lots of Germans like it. If you want to read about this watch in German, you have to search for it under "Dornblueth" and not "Dornbluth". Notice the extra "e". The u umlaut (the two dots above the ü) are written as "ue" when you use a keyboard with no umlauts. Here, for instance, was a 99.1 that sold for 2400 Euros, goddammit:

http://www.watchlounge.com/wbb3/wl/index.p...tID=1165177&l=1

German is my second language so I read a few German watch forums. Here is the price list on the German Rolex Forum:

<<< Im happy and proud that I own a TAG Heuer and would like to own a Patek 10 years down the road when i am 33..>>>
at 23 already can afford RM19K watch.. target not too far away man!

Congrads! Zenith do make good watch. although some ppl do love vintage Zenith.

worth RM 18.8K??? hmm the way I see it expensive. On a good day in States, some outlet do let them go at 50-70% discount!
of course is surplus stock and out dated model.
2 issue with Zenith is mainly cost associated
1) Problem with Zenith is they change the design freq, thus do not bring high resale value.
not going to sell it, sure at RM 18.8K why not.
if dare to risk it, surf around there are reliable grey market places to get better deal maybe at RM 16K or lower.
2) El Primero is a pretty complex movement, few watchmaker can do a good job. U'll have to pay a premium to get it done right with the AD.

Jean-Frédéric Dufour is Moroccan? don't know his style.. didn't he come from Chopard.
I still thought Thierry Nataf is the flamboyant guy.

Well, I'm a mechanical designer (what the French and Germans call a Konstrukteur) by training, so I design precision mechanisms. But I work now as something else. I used to repair old mechanical cameras as a hobby. Compared to cameras, watches are peanuts. They are very simple, very abbreviated, very elegant solutions. The design of most classical movements is very stable, with only the most minor changes from model to model, unlike even old cameras where each new model entails a complete redesign of everything inside. (The exceptions are exotic movements.)

I restored my grandfather's pendulum clock when I was 16. It was bloody, because the mainspring sprang open and cut a deep wound into my thumb. Etc. But it ticks now, and has an incredible wire gong.

I also read a lot about it.

But I'm no longer in touch with mechanics. I mostly manage people nowadays. Now those are even more complicated than old cameras.

Added on July 28, 2009, 1:20 amThere's no shame in being fired when you're a CEO. It happens all the time for the most arbitrary of reasons. Same thing for project managers.

European culture... hmm.. can't really tell what they mean by just that sentence without any background.
some actually did leave to start up their own business or what not. having work with Germans/Finnish/Brits don't really know.
a quick scan on timezone, plenty of haters, plenty of rumor too! Rolex, Hamilton, Omega etc..
judging from that, Fired is very likely! ya certainly no shame... he did tried his best. U find ppl loving their design. I like the crazy defy design too, but its just super expensive! Now I like their classic elite models.

if the New CEO moves away from the crazy design.. prices of those wacky type may drop quite a bit. Can keep an eye on the LVMH friends and family sale postings on fatwallet.com. Even when they say no resale, U still find plenty getting exchanged!

Oh... Mechanical engineer! no wonder U appreciate the mechanics in such detail. No Mechanical engineer here.. didn't have the passion until late 20s.
few ppl actually look at watches the way U do. Most ppl its status, fashion, some even go to deep and say its a expression of ones character like the clothes they wear. Like Real.
people are more complex of course! LOL..
Guess I need to find a way so I can start bottom up...

Watch repair is peanuts. You'll pick it up quickly. Problem is, once you do mechanisms lose a bit of their magic. All that bling bling disappears and you see them for what they are: A simple spring coiled up, the simplest of gear trains, and the most incredible invention in mechanics ever, the escapement.

Hey if you enroll in the Rolex Diploma, tell us about it!
