The brand name called Certina.
It was an official time sponsor for F1 BMW Williams team.

Ok, will look through the distributor around KL then.

Thanks
*
Funny how Certina is not so well known in this part of the world. I mean, they've been established for quite a long time and they sponsor quite a lot of sporting events and teams....and personally I think their watches are quite fine looking too.

I'm from Penang, and I don't think I remember seeing any shops selling Certina before. blush.gif But I'm sure you can find them in KL. Good luck!

sad.gif Anyone here got any good recommendations? I'm looking for:

- automatic movement (preferably swiss)
- aviator style (something like Steinhart Nav-B Chrono series, altho chronograph is not compulsory)
- with date (even better if comes with day and date)
- 45mm and above (preferably in black PVD case)
- good lume
- leather strap
- preferably with power reserve indicator
- preferably with transparent case back

Checked out Getat cos I kinda like the marina militare style, but most of them don't have date except Parnis (which seems to have everything!). tongue.gif
I like this Steinhart model: Steinhart Nav-B Chrono 47mm
But unfortunately it doesn't come with black PVD case, no power reserve indicator and no transparent case back. sad.gif I don't really mind all these but does anyone have any recommendation for other brands?

Another things is I noticed there are quite a lot of automatic watches using Unitas movement. Are Unitas swiss or asian made? Some site says swiss unitas...some says asian unitas. So i'm confused. rclxub.gif

Help anyone? icon_question.gif

IMHO, Steinhart is very good value for money watch. Great customer service by the owenr himself, My Gunther  thumbup.gif I'm looking at 47mm nav-b automatic by the way  tongue.gif
Asian made Unitas is made in China by Hangzhou and Sea-Gull.
http://horologycrazy.blogspot.com/2009/10/...h-movement.html
Though both of China and Swiss made almost look identical, but the QC is really a huge issue on China made ones. Price wise, an undecorated Swiss Unitas 6497/6498 movement alone will cost ~USD230 while the China ones a lot cheaper.
As partyn33 said earlier, any watch with Unitas movement that cost less than RM1k will most likely housed a Chinese machine  whistling.gif
Here are the comparison between Swiss and China Unitas,
http://tamhk.com/mwf/index.php/topic,761.0.html

Option for you? Try to look at Damasko, another high regards German watch manufacturer. Damasko DC66 review here,
http://tamhk.com/mwf/index.php/topic,201.0.html
*
Thanks ck77...i now have a much better understanding of a Swiss and China made Unitas. The swiss made ones definitely looks better and I'm sure
more reliable as well.

Yupp, I am REALLY tempted by the Steinhart Nav-B Chrono 47mm!! drool.gif

The Damasko you recommended is not bad...but unfortunately only 42mm sad.gif

Unitas? 6498/6497 they are not automatic all manual wind.
swiss movement and U want pwr reserve, i believe all the options are listed a few pages back. Thing is none of them are in PVD case in nando's 3K budget. if your budget is higher than his, there are of course 1-2 around.

its extremely hard to find chrono+pwr reserve combo watches.
when U say prefer are they optional options?
as for aviator are u looking for onion crown?

eg: Swiss Army Victorinox Airboss Mach 6 Power Gauge Limited Edition.
both chrono+pwr reserve+PVD+45mm case. cost wise ~US$4K
http://www.swissarmy.com/Timepieces/Pages/...&product=241308
Zenith will have it but u know the cost. its should be more than US$14K.
http://www.thewatchery.com/Zenith/Watches/...efy_Xtreme/Mens
Graham Swordfish PVD
Pam and Bell & Ross, U'll definitely find it.

not looking for complications.
Archimede Black Pilot: good value priced under EUR$450.
http://www.archimede-uhren.de/EN/Pilot-family.htm
Fortis, its PVD with day date, but 42mm case and no pwr reserve.
http://www.worldlux.com/cgi-bin/navigate.c...froogle_sponsor
Aristo PVD Pilot
Zeno (found a chrono+pwr reserve+date) don't have PVD, 44mm case, day.
http://www.zeno-watch.ch/en/watches.html
*
What I meant by preferably is I don't really mind if the watch don't have the feature/function but it'll be a plus if it has.
And as for the crown, onion or no onion is okay with me. smile.gif

Thanks a lot for your recommendations, patryn33....the Swiss Army Victorinox Airboss Mach 6 Power Gauge Limited Edition you recommended looks great and I think it has almost all the requirements I wanted....however unfortunately the Swiss Army brand doesn't really appeal to me....like Tag, B&R and a few others (no offense to fans of the brands)...these are well established brands who produces fine watches but somehow for whatever reasons....the brand doesn't appeal to me. hmm.gif

It ain't that easy finding the perfect watch I suppose! blink.gif

i've got a winner for you..of all your requirements.. it just doesn't have one.. no power reserve indicator..
Oris BC4 Chronograph

i think power reserve indicator chronographs not very common..and probably cost quite significant.
*
Many thanks Jason! I've always liked the Oris BC4...wonder why it never crossed my mind before this!! hmm.gif
Maybe I'll check it out at the shops this weekend!! smile.gif

the black bezel with orange marker also look nice...

yea, one of their nicest models IMHO....25%....you think watchshoppe gurney can get, nando??

Added on March 2, 2010, 4:37 pm
wah...cannot la khopl!!! the Oris Chronograph will make a widow out of your Aviator!  tongue.gif
*
The Oris BC4 will easily set me back RM10k+ after discount!! But what to do....gatal....if nothing to do this weekend then maybe go 'look-see loo-see' la. biggrin.gif

Maybe should just settle for the Steinhart Nav-B Chrono 47mm hmm.gif

Talking about my Aviator....one of my friends said it looked like a Swatch at a glance!! %*#@#&!!!! laugh.gif

Swiss Army is on Sopord mod 7750, on the usual ETA 7750. quality should be better.
Swiss Army brand really sound cheap.. anyway thats their target market else how to find chrono+date+pwr res under US$4k.

seem like u have a thing with Oris and Ball. which brands do u have a thing for?
*
Its not that the brand sounds cheap to me....but dunno how to explain la....like I can't see myself wearing the brand I guess. In fact, I quite like their design (Swiss Army)...plus I know that particular model has pretty good movement...quality and all. Well, like I said...the brand doesn't appeal to me. Like Tag...its doesn't sound cheap and it isn't cheap either....but it doesn't appeal to me. B&R too...Montblanc (don't mind their pens actually smile.gif )...Longines too..to name a few.

Actually I just like that particular Oris....the BC4...the rest of their line, well not so much.

In fact, when I got the Ball Aviator, I was contemplating between Oris TT3 and Maurice Lacroix Pontos Chronographe. The TT3 is titanium...really light...and I dunno...it feels plasticky to me...I mean the weight of course! laugh.gif I prefer something heavier I guess. I was really really tempted by the ML but then I was actually looking for something I can wear everyday...a 'workhorse' so to speak...and I don't think I can wear the ML everyday. So I finally settle for the Aviator...plus the sales person was going on and on about how great the lume is. smile.gif Well, after buying it...its now more like a 'retired horse' than a 'workhorse'!!! laugh.gif

You asked which brand I have a thing for? Well, to be honest, there are a few brands that I stay away from (as mentioned above) as they don't appeal to me (again, no offense to any fans)....but I quite fancy IWC particularly the pilot models, Omega, Panerai, Sinn....sigh, if only can afford!!....but in general, I like Aviator/Pilot styled watches. smile.gif

What about yourself...I gotta feeling you have a thing for Zenith. smile.gif

i am worse....since November want to buy...till now still undecided.....everytime got see something new, change my mind.....but some people say its a good thing...a sign that i am not buying with impulse....so ..i'll wait...hopefully price dont go up too soon...

Patryn will tell you i am eyeing the Jean Richard 1665 now..with regulator and power display.....still wondering if i should make the kill (about RM 6.5k)....or use the $$ to get an Oris + Ball OR...save some more ( plus few more K) and go for the Planet Ocean....or.....maybe add few more k and get aOmega AquaTerra with 8500 co-axial!!

aRRGGHH!!!

yeah..Patryn seems to like Zenith a lot....perhaps the history of Zenith winning the chronograph race eh?
*
Decision, decisions, decisions eh? hahahaha
Its a good thing ure not an impulse buyer...seriously. Wish I could be like that!
The Jean Richard 1665 looks seriously good! Which Oris and Ball are you eyeing at??

Hey guys....what do you think of Golana, Hamilton and Wenger watches?

I know Wenger is part of Swiss Army...perhaps lower in terms of quality as compared to Swiss Army....and yes, I mentioned before that Swiss Army watches doesn't appeal to me...but dunno why Wenger seems ok to me tongue.gif

My question is...among the 3 brands listed above, which is better? In terms of quality, value, reliability, etc....

Dear All Sifus....

Need your help...what's the difference or rather what is a 'swan neck' movement in the 6497/6498?

Is it better/more reliable/more accurate versus non 'swan neck'?

Any help or comment will be much appreaciated.

Thanks!! smile.gif

talk about limited edition... only 20pcs known to exist.

Italian heritage like Panerai - ANONIMO

QUOTE(terencetoo @ Mar 26 2010, 12:17 AM)
true that 1U Watchshoppe does see u in a different way.
I was once served with an attitude what i cant afford to buy the Tag.
The malay lady was looking at my watch and i was like "Wxx" looking down on me.

A month later i visited them again to check on their stock availability and is gone.
This time i try not wearing anything with formal attire. Well, they are looking at me and serve me slightly better than previous visit.

Think is a norm thing in M'sia ppl "scan" their customer from head to toe.

Oh guys, my bro was asking me to consider Omega watches...any nice Omega watches can reckon? Since Omega > Tag
*
Hahaha....Yes, I totally agree...its very typical of retailers (esp in M'sia) to judge a walk-in customer's buying power by the way the customer dresses. Just like terencetoo said...they'll scan you from head to toe first....probably to see if you're worth their time and effort providing you with good service. Well, I just wanna share two real incidents where it really shows you can never judge a person's buying power by the way they dress.

My fren's fren is a real 'ah beng'....the kind that wears thick gold chain...dyes hair in weird colors...long nails on his pinky...and usually wears just a t-shirt, bermudas and slippers but a wealthy one....carries around stacks of RM100 notes in cold hard cash (well, he's a bookie). Well this is a real case and this 'ah beng' is interested to buy a Panerai...so he walks into the boutique (in KL) and the sales person didn't even gave him a second glance...needless to say the service was terrible. So, feeling frustrated...this 'ah beng' immediately went to IWC boutique instead and bought a watch worth almost 30k in cash. biggrin.gif

So, all you retailers out there esp the salesperson, do not ever jugde a person's buying power just by the way he/she dresses!!

I've heard of another case (in PG) where the customer (old wealthy businessman) was also only wearing a t-shirt, bermudas and slippers....but he was also wearing a watch worth over RM300k limited to only a few pieces worldwide....walks into a watch shop and bought 6 Omegas with total value of around RM60k-70k in cash!

Hmmm....sometimes, the simpler the person dresses...the wealthier he/she is! laugh.gif

iirc the Spring LVMH friends and family Sale 2010 maybe starting soon.. usually 1st or 2nd week of Apr..
usually those Tag are at 50%. problem is they don't ship out of USA.
I think locally there is one going on in Dec.

a saving of 400-500 hmmm... add shipping and possibility 10% tax will it still be worthwhile?
