actually, do you guys find a `half' Arab numerical (as in the number being `eaten' up by a sub dial) disturbing? i read that to many watch lovers, this is a no-no..

Watch survey today based on the 3 am really thinking about:

1. ML Pontos Chronographe Sport Full Black (RM11,400)
- Discount around 25-30% or so
- Nice watch & really light, but it's rather small for me (43mm). This is a disappointment sad.gif

2. ML Pontos Chronographe Valgranges (RM14,900)
- 47mm, NICE! rclxms.gif
- Discount around 25-30% more or less

3. Omega Aqua Terra Chrono GMT (RM28k)
- Discount max 20%
- As of April 01 2010 All Omega Watches prices will increase 5-8% dependent on models vmad.gif

4. Chopard 1000 Miglia GT XL Chrono Split Second Speed Black (RM48k)
- Discount max 10%
- Damn nice watch, but too damn expensive... rclxub.gif

Have allot of scouting around to do still. Am content with the 2nd item above (ML Pontos Chronographe Valgranges). But just wanna take a look at Fortis & Mido. Ball ain't my cup of tea cause they're all between 42-44mm. I'm best off with 45-47mm or so. Have a big hand... icon_rolleyes.gif

Cheerios!

2 complication.. chrono + GMT not going to be cheap.
that omega would retail US$8500 or ~RM28k.. today maybe around 20%.. 25% maybe hard..
paying that much can get a nice pre-own Rolex explorer II

Wearing my Maurice LaCroix Calendrier Retrograde today. Took this shot using a D40 with a softbox on the right if anyone cares about the photography involved.

I miss my Panerai, but it's good to mix things up a little.

Beautiful details from a not so mainstream watchmaker at a good price. Blued steel hands and arabic numerals, genuine silver face details, and a pretty cool retrograde, power reserve and seconds complication. Also has standard AR coating, and an exhibition back.

I accidently dropped this watch in '08 on the same teak hardwood floor photographed and busted the movement. All this marketing about the Incabloc Shock Protection blah blah, but it couldn't withstand the acceleration of 9.8m/sec2 from torso height. A month in the shop and RM ~1000 to fix. =/

Uses a heavily modified Unitas 6498-1 base movement which Maurice LaCroix calls the ML76 calibre. Very audible tick-tick-tick from the escapement. About 39mm face. I switched the black leather strap with a brown crocodile strap - looks really appropriate with the white face.

Here are some watches I am considering:

Bell & Ross BR03-51 GMT
- love the carbon fiber and titanium case. Tried on a similar sized BR03 two years ago and fell in love.
IWC Portuguese Chronograph - classic and timeless design, great brand reputation and easy to find watch and at a reasonable price.
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean - with the orange bezel and orange strap, looks sporty, a bit loud, but beautiful. Tried it on at least three times and various retailers and almost took it home each time. Love the hands. Comes in two sizes, but the larger 46mm is "monstrous" and looks ridiculous on me. Smaller one (I think 42mm?) is perfect. Excellent build quality, reliability and for the price, IMO better looking than any Rolex (except maybe the Daytona Chrono). =)

Curious - what would LYN choose if from this list above (not saying you will agree with my choices, but if you had to choose =)
I would have posted pictures, but did not want to detract from the original meaning of the post which was to share my ML.

Of course I'd like to load the list up with my long time favourites like the Hublot Big Bang, or AP Royal Oak Offshore, but I can't justify the expense given this economy.

I doubt mido have anything for U largest usually 44mm. iirc Fortis are all in 42mm

I would drop Chopard in a heartbeat! Mod ETA movement not really worth that kinda money. Might as well go for Omega or go with Graham or better yet a Zenith Defy!

Alpina U get big watches
- Alpina Avalanche Extreme Regulator 48mm retail US$2790
- Auto Chrono AL-850BB4FBAE6 46mm ~US$4K

Edox
- Class 1 Auto Chronooffshore 45mm ~US$3.6k

Graham
- Chronofighter Rac Trigger 46mm
- Swordfish 46mm Automatic Chronograph
http://www.collectorstime.com/other_EH.php#graham

Breitling
- BREITLING AEROMARINE SUPEROCEAN HERITAGE CHRONO 46mm US$4310

Ferrari Chrono by Panerai are usually 45mm. get preown and its ~US$4k.

Zenith Defy! can get a Chrono + Pwr Res. its big and heavy.. mine Defy at 43mm already weights a good 200grams

Nice ML thumbup.gif
My choice on the above would be PO, co-axial movement which need service only in 8-10 years of constant wearing icon_rolleyes.gif

well... shock protection does not protect against such drop lah.. at most it a drop at waist level on oak floor, not teak.
Drop a Rolex and U may find the same thing happening! heck.. even Rolex's famous steel do rust!

BR3-51 - US$5K (very likely ETA 2893 but according to their website its adjusted to 4 position guess its Elaboré grade but they do more regulating)
IWC Portuguese Chronograph - US$6.8K on caliber 79350 (mod 7750)
Omega PO - ~US$3.9k

my vote goes to Omega for $$, value, design.. if $$ not of concern... IWC

IWC resale value not that great... preown sold for ~SGD$5K.
