anyone here prefer japan movement to swiss made one?
i owned 2 watches: 1. Levi's & 2. Guess..
both of them are japan movement...
i bought them by the design and soon discovered they are both made in japan..
*
I believe they are Miyota movement (citizen).
today even tag heuer is moving to use a seiko mechanical movement developed a decade ago.
for me swiss-jap... don't really matter.. I really love to own a seiko spring drive.

Oh. I'm only 18. So i guess it is the reason i go for japan movement. (money wise + more collection)
*
there are affordable watches in swiss movement. by that I meant around US$200 - US$400 range.
just need to know where to look.
eg
http://www.watchseller.com/watun500.html
www.pmwf.com
http://www.bernhardtwatch.com/officerswatch.html
brands such as entry level watches from hamilton, ESQ, Zodiac, Golana Swiss, Tissot would fit the above budget. oops.. lets not forget Swatch!

oops.. I forget about Choisi (see below link), and swiss army.
http://www.ocean7watchco.com/cs1/index.php...&category_id=17

BTW: in 2007 swiss voted to tighten the regulation on what it takes to be branded swiss made. today is at least 50% made in swiss, new regulation would be 80%. thank go it will not happen anytime soon.. it took 20yrs for Switzerland to arrive at this current rules. According to what I learnt, fastest it would take 8yrs for this to go into effect. when that happen.. U would see prices go up much higher.

hmmm...interesting development....., which of the value for money brands (the tissots, oris, hamilton, etc) will fulfil the 80% criteria then?
*
my guess it all of them, if they wanna continue putting swiss made on their watches!
Oops those looking at quartz its 60%.. company such as hamiltion, oris who outsource their case/leather overseas to the far east today.. I would expect a significant increase in prices when that happen.

slim branded watch all in house movement, but they are not digital. A. Lange & Söhne do have digital display but analog watch. I think its cost above US$20K.

try nomos (6mm thick)! frederique constant FC-700 (10mm thick)

*
huh? what do u mean by that? all mechanical watches do have sweeping second hand.
or do u mean small second hand? a pic will certainly help

Don't think Chopard is that cheap  rclxub.gif If really is, then is really a freaking good deal  hmm.gif
http://www.prestigetime.com/item/Chopard/M...68997-3001.html
*
when its 3000++ is 3002 or 3999? even at 3999 still bargain (more like 80% off retail) if its new esp its COSC.
U sure not used? if so we all know the resale value of this watch.
any lower end Chopard are all base on ETA, very little mod.. staff purchase for mont blanc is at 50%, rado high at ~70-80% I heard.. perhaps Chopard is along the lines with rado.

@ pokeat
U with him while he got it? can share the name of the Pavilion shop?

Which retail store you recommend will be the best?
not a B&R fan... AD prices usually controlled.
I just find B&R overpriced.. using unmod ETA 2892 / 2894 movement can command such high price.
might as well get a Panerai, bear min they mod 7750 heavily.

Hey guys need some help. Looking to purchase a similar looking black watch like in the spoiler. But the thing which is bothering me is with the casing and bracelet being black stainless steel and all will it be prone to scratches and colour fade over time?
*
don't think it will fade over time, usually cheap PVD get scratch off easily.
or get something from Diveas
http://www.gnomonwatches.com/DievasAvantGa...intage6152.html
QUOTE
The case, tube, lugs, screws and buckle are treated by Plasma Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition(PACVD) with a new material, Diamond Like Carbon(DLC). This special treatment is done specially for Dievas by a German company who specialize in the treatment for Formula One cars. Unlike the PACVD-DLC coating used on the Dievas AGP, this particular found on the AGV 6152BD is has a slightly different patent and molecular compound, thus adding a different shade to its appearance. This technology brings its hardness to a new level.
The PACVD-DLC treated Dievas AGV 6152 has a hardness of 2700 Vickers (tested according to the ISO 14577 / DIN 50 359 Standards) which is about 18 times the hardness of 316L stainless steel of 140 Vickers. Included with each watch is a hardness report with ISO 14577 / DIN 50 359 certification.

And a first for Dievas is the TiNite treated crown and caseback. TiNite is approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and used for precision medical equipment, The material is extremely tough, highly resistant to tarnish and discoloring. TiNite is the perfect material for the caseback which has the most contact with the owner.

this seem like a good deal... 3mths old and its US$300

anyone here had the chance to hold a Seiko Ananta or even own one? any comments on the workmanship and finish? Especially in comparison with the Premier models?
Pricing is almost 50% higher (for automatic) and double (Spring Drive series) i heard...
*
according to what i read, its below Grand Seiko in terms of finishing.
i have to say it have to be better than Premier.
Seiko does priced their according, its not like they are ripping ppl off.

no seiko expert, that maybe how seiko rank their collection
http://www.seikowatches.com/products/index.html

seiko premier starts ~us$300 to us$1k
Seiko Ananta starts us$2k to us$7.1k certainly not double of premier collection
Grand Seiko starts ~us$3k (us$2k for a quartz) to us$30k
