QUOTE(ck77 @ Feb 28 2010, 02:48 PM)
IMHO, Steinhart is very good value for money watch. Great customer service by the owenr himself, My Gunther  thumbup.gif I'm looking at 47mm nav-b automatic by the way  tongue.gif
Asian made Unitas is made in China by Hangzhou and Sea-Gull.
http://horologycrazy.blogspot.com/2009/10/...h-movement.html
Though both of China and Swiss made almost look identical, but the QC is really a huge issue on China made ones. Price wise, an undecorated Swiss Unitas 6497/6498 movement alone will cost ~USD230 while the China ones a lot cheaper.
As partyn33 said earlier, any watch with Unitas movement that cost less than RM1k will most likely housed a Chinese machine  whistling.gif
Here are the comparison between Swiss and China Unitas,
http://tamhk.com/mwf/index.php/topic,761.0.html

Option for you? Try to look at Damasko, another high regards German watch manufacturer. Damasko DC66 review here,
http://tamhk.com/mwf/index.php/topic,201.0.html

Thanks ck77...i now have a much better understanding of a Swiss and China made Unitas. The swiss made ones definitely looks better and I'm sure
more reliable as well.

Yupp, I am REALLY tempted by the Steinhart Nav-B Chrono 47mm!! drool.gif

The Damasko you recommended is not bad...but unfortunately only 42mm sad.gif

Added on March 1, 2010, 12:26 pmErrr..patryn33...the Zeno watch you recommended...any idea how much is the cost range?

Thanks a lot!

I was quite picky in terms of the day-date vs the date.
I can't choose the right one to fit. (the day-date is extra rm2k+ just for the day indicator)
That day i saw Omega  watches De Ville Hour Vision never know is so exp also smile.gif

Btw, what leather watches can i look for (i'm open for suggestion  smile.gif )
Budget not more than rm10k

if you're comparing with the carrera.... check out the Longines GrandeVitesse
user posted image

IMO.. the one that tops both the Tag and the Longines is this
user posted image

i like the Tag Heuer Carrera Chrono too, but Tag is so common, every tom d*** and hairy has it. I wouldn't want to go to a dinner or event and have a few guys wearing the same watch as me, i don't know about you. I would get the Maurice Lacroix instead. Don't really fancy the Longines design.

someone mentioned the Zenith El Primero.. looks very..Swatch to me, design wise.

this is the holy grail for me

sad.gif Anyone here got any good recommendations? I'm looking for:

- automatic movement (preferably swiss)
- aviator style (something like Steinhart Nav-B Chrono series, altho chronograph is not compulsory)
- with date (even better if comes with day and date)
- 45mm and above (preferably in black PVD case)
- good lume
- leather strap
- preferably with power reserve indicator
- preferably with transparent case back

Checked out Getat cos I kinda like the marina militare style, but most of them don't have date except Parnis (which seems to have everything!).  tongue.gif
I like this Steinhart model: Steinhart Nav-B Chrono 47mm
But unfortunately it doesn't come with black PVD case, no power reserve indicator and no transparent case back.  sad.gif  I don't really mind all these but does anyone have any recommendation for other brands?

Another things is I noticed there are quite a lot of automatic watches using Unitas movement. Are Unitas swiss or asian made? Some site says swiss unitas...some says asian unitas. So i'm confused.  rclxub.gif

Help anyone?  icon_question.gif

i've got a winner for you..of all your requirements.. it just doesn't have one.. no power reserve indicator..
Oris BC4 Chronograph

i think power reserve indicator chronographs not very common..and probably cost quite significant.

for the classic Flieger design, Stowa, Steinhart, Lacos and Archimede are 4 very popular brands...

Stowa is most expensive and takes longer time for delivery..their flieger model is only 40mm i think...but a lot of people (Stowa owners naturally) swore that the finishing is clearly better than the other 3...

the other 3 bands probably faster delivery time, definitely cheaper, and they have more options (dial size, chronographs, etc)...

I would just like to ask if anyone here knows where to get the parts Bell & Ross Skeleton Auomatic Movement with SIlver Case and Bezel watch. I lost one of the 'threaded bars & screws/bolt' that screws together to hold the rubber strap to the watch.

Or do you have idea where to get it repaired? I have been to few shops but they say they cant repair it. Anyone here knows where to repair replica watches?

Thank You.

cost b4 discount ~$20K

not all Zenith El Primero are crazy.. Defy Xtreme series are crazy/funky looking. Design wise U find more ppl loving swatch design vs Zenith.
price wise.. can buy 100 to 300 swatches to 1 Zenith Defy Xtreme. Its also non plastic.. extremely heavy.

well, Chrono + pwr reserve.. not too much if 1 get the swiss army.. ~US$3K

U only need to take it in every 4-5yrs. for a mechanical Tag ~$200 and usually takes about 1-2week.
a quartz is every 3yrs, cost ~$30 and its a 30min job!

1) Longines is Tag's competitor.
2) Luminox ok... most watches are quartz. wouldn't rate it high along with Longines/Tag

Added on February 28, 2010, 9:26 pm

Unitas? 6498/6497 they are not automatic all manual wind.
swiss movement and U want pwr reserve, i believe all the options are listed a few pages back. Thing is none of them are in PVD case in nando's 3K budget. if your budget is higher than his, there are of course 1-2 around.

its extremely hard to find chrono+pwr reserve combo watches.
when U say prefer are they optional options?
as for aviator are u looking for onion crown?

eg: Swiss Army Victorinox Airboss Mach 6 Power Gauge Limited Edition.
both chrono+pwr reserve+PVD+45mm case. cost wise ~US$4K
http://www.swissarmy.com/Timepieces/Pages/...&product=241308
Zenith will have it but u know the cost. its should be more than US$14K.
http://www.thewatchery.com/Zenith/Watches/...efy_Xtreme/Mens
Graham Swordfish PVD
Pam and Bell & Ross, U'll definitely find it.

not looking for complications.
Archimede Black Pilot: good value priced under EUR$450.
http://www.archimede-uhren.de/EN/Pilot-family.htm
Fortis, its PVD with day date, but 42mm case and no pwr reserve.
http://www.worldlux.com/cgi-bin/navigate.c...froogle_sponsor
Aristo PVD Pilot
Zeno (found a chrono+pwr reserve+date) don't have PVD, 44mm case, day.

yep, yet to find Swiss movement with Power Reserve below 3k...Orient and Seiko has, but not Swiss movement...i didnt checked price of Hamilton Jazz master power reserve display.i think Mido also has model with power display but doubt can get for 3k...

I was like you when I was deciding on the carrera with date or DD. In the end I got myself the DD. For me the main difference is the size, and the usual date only version is too common IMHO. With the budget of around 10k, you actually do have a lot of choices smile.gif My DD runs +1 sec / day crown up and +- 0 when my dial facing up. That's what I can tell u bout the watch. Tho its not a chronometer, the accuracy is within the chronometer range. I was tempted by the omega speedmaster as well, but it just looks too small on my wrist. If anyone were to say every tom d*** and harry has it, he/she must have a lot of friends who are quite well to do eh? No offense taken.

patryn33: the Zenith El Primero doesn't look like a swatch, it reminds me of gerald genta sport without the subdials smile.gif

hi patryn33, yes, which is why in my original statement i said looks very swatch to me. i believe you agree with me that looks are subjective, thus you can possibly say that i don't know how to appreciate it and likewise i can say that i got better taste. but its all subjective. icon_rolleyes.gif

Jr.Koh: I went for an annual dinner of an insurance agency, and yes, spotted 2 carreras but they were the non-DD variant, and lots of tag aquaracers, some oysters. tags are everywhere. if someone is wearing a swiss watch that is in the tag price bracket, it would most likely be a tag, and not say, a longines. (which, is a direct competitor to tag). do go look at watch boutiques, Tag would be the one with the most crowd.

if you want to stand out the crowd but wear something different, you might want to consider the present Omega Planet Ocean series...especially the orange bezel ones...i think the bracelet model looks cool and yet elegant enough to be an interesting `conversation initiating' dress watch..good movement too....perhaps with nego and cash purchase, you can get it slightly below RM10k..

but of course, the below 10k version...dial is clean...no chrono ....

Swiss Army is on Sopord mod 7750, on the usual ETA 7750. quality should be better.
Swiss Army brand really sound cheap.. anyway thats their target market else how to find chrono+date+pwr res under US$4k.

seem like u have a thing with Oris and Ball. which brands do u have a thing for?
Oris kinda lost my love, when I learn they operate like Hamilton. to keep cost down, many things are imported from the far east.
price wise somehow I wouldn't pay 10K for a chrono that runs on ETA 7750.

Its not that the brand sounds cheap to me....but dunno how to explain la....like I can't see myself wearing the brand I guess. In fact, I quite like their design (Swiss Army)...plus I know that particular model has pretty good movement...quality and all. Well, like I said...the brand doesn't appeal to me. Like Tag...its doesn't sound cheap and it isn't cheap either....but it doesn't appeal to me. B&R too...Montblanc (don't mind their pens actually smile.gif )...Longines too..to name a few.

Actually I just like that particular Oris....the BC4...the rest of their line, well not so much.

In fact, when I got the Ball Aviator, I was contemplating between Oris TT3 and Maurice Lacroix Pontos Chronographe. The TT3 is titanium...really light...and I dunno...it feels plasticky to me...I mean the weight of course! laugh.gif I prefer something heavier I guess. I was really really tempted by the ML but then I was actually looking for something I can wear everyday...a 'workhorse' so to speak...and I don't think I can wear the ML everyday. So I finally settle for the Aviator...plus the sales person was going on and on about how great the lume is. smile.gif Well, after buying it...its now more like a 'retired horse' than a 'workhorse'!!! laugh.gif

You asked which brand I have a thing for? Well, to be honest, there are a few brands that I stay away from (as mentioned above) as they don't appeal to me (again, no offense to any fans)....but I quite fancy IWC particularly the pilot models, Omega, Panerai, Sinn....sigh, if only can afford!!....but in general, I like Aviator/Pilot styled watches. smile.gif

What about yourself...I gotta feeling you have a thing for Zenith. smile.gif
