No problem as the software unlock is already available but with a catch. If you update or 'accidentally' update the software, then you have to wait for the iPhone Dev Team to find the unlock again. If not, you'll be stuck with an iPod Touch instead.

So ... better opt for an officially unlock iPhone.

one stupid question:
can i choose the ivalue4 6 month contract?
then i just need to pay RM260 to get the iphone.
after that i cancel the maxis,then i use digi.
then i don need to pay monthly commitment right ?
*
First of all, you looked at the wrong rate my friend. Maybe because of too excited in getting an iPhone. You're looking at ivalue 4 for the 24 months contract and not the 6 month. Here is the correct one.

[attachmentid=900314]

And one more thing .... u think maxis that stupid ka and u know what does it mean by contract? If you take 6 months contract means u r bind to that company for 6 months. If 24 then 24 months la. If you cancel the contract, then you'll be impose a penalty for defaulting it. It's not that easy to get away from maxis and do really think the phone worth RM260 for a 6 month contract?

Buy what you need ... it's your $$$. If you want to get an official iPhone 3Gs from Maxis, there's a (ridiculous) waiting period to purchase the phone. There are always alternative like phones from singapore, australia or such that can be purchase here in LYF but with a higher price tag.

If you need a phone and a multimedia device, iPhone is for you. If phone function is not important, then get an iPod Touch but you will only be bound to a WiFi hotspot to access the internet. Not to mention the iPod Touch does not have a camera like the iPhone 3Gs (with auto focus).

Since you said you want something light for traveling, the iPod touch would be great as the roaming data charge would be astronomical.

As for maybank2u, I've on few occasions made transactions on the iPhone on the move and it's a very convenient device (paired with a data plan).

Again macpro2 ... it's your call. Try the device first at any Apple Retailers and make your decisions.

I almost fell in love with HTC Hero with Sense UI. A review between 3Gs and HTC Hero really put me back into perspective. iPhone will always be on my heart.

The difference between software unlock and official unlock are like night and day. With software unlock, you have to be always vigilant in baseband version, iPhone OS updates and so on while official unlock phone don't have to worry about those things.

If you have the choice, go for officially unlock phones.

@hilk
US phones will always be locked by nature. If your friend said it's unlock, it's using software unlock and not officially unlock.

Where do you hear that heat issue is a common problem for iPhone and cause discoloration on the back cover?

It's known back then that the "so called" discoloration from heat is actually a color transfer from the case thats the users are using.

If i were the seller, I would not let you peel off the IS too. What if you pull it off and decide not to buy?

In case you are not aware, UK iPhones are NOT officially unlocked.
*
What forumer PeeEl trying to say is that UK set is not officially unlocked like Maxis set. Officially unlocked means you can just put any sim card and it will detect the signal. Locked phones are phone which can only use the intended telco i.e. vodafone, virgin, O2 etc.

Jailbreak on the other hand is to open up the phone so you can modify the system files to enable unlocks, mods, themes and apps not supported by Apple.

If you get UK iPhone, you need to jailbreak and unlock the phone thru pwnagetool or blackra1n. Right now with the new 3Gs having a new bootrom, you need to rejailbreak again using blackra1n everytime you reboot the phone (quite a hassle). You will also be left out if Apple put out new firmware and if you upgrade to a new firmware (which sometime include a new baseband), you'll stuck with a locked phone until someone comes out with a new jailbreak and unlock (if you're out of luck, you can't even unlock with the new baseband). For locked phones, jailbreak is the 1st step followed by unlock. Without jailbreak you can't unlock the phone, and without unlock, you'll end up with an iPod Touch instead.

Maybe you can read this especially Section F

U guys sure o not you can purchase iPhone from T-Mobile? As I know, AT&T still have exclusive rights to iPhone until June/July this year. Even going thru their websites didn't show you can purchase the iPhone what more to say an unlocked ones.

Maybe you are confused between the google nexus one which is unlocked with an iPhone.

If i'm wrong, please furnish us with the source. Not just by saying "I hear from this and that". If this is true than websites like macrumors, appleinsider and tipb would publish such news.

Errr ... this is from Buy.com and not from T-Mobile or other telco. They got the phone from all over the world from the said article and it's only for 16GB iPhone 3G (not 3Gs). USD$799 for a 16GB iPhone 3G? Izzit worth it?

@silverware
Warranty should be taken into consideration as parts for this phone is quite expensive. Why save few bucks but need to fork out more money later when it's broken (this is where the warranty comes in smile.gif )

As for the price, it's varied on where you plan to get it but mostly will be tied to a contract to the respective country telco (like maxis). Some do sell it contract free at the local phone shops (grey imports etc) but then again you do not know where the phone's from. Which leads to the next point of officially unlock, hardware unlock or software unlock.

Official unlock - Can be use with all sim card. Not lock to just 1 telco (like maxis and singtel)

Hardware unlock - used to be done last time where they modified the chip inside with a sim adapter. (highly not advisable)

Software unlock - can only be use with the intended telco (like AT&T). Any update to the baseband (sumethin like a modem driver) and you'll loose the unlock. If the dev team or geohot did not find any unlock for the baseband, then you'll stuck with an iPod Touch.

Better go with an Official and Unlock phone, just to be safe.

Then u really really really need to wait patiently coz the next iteration of iPhone won't be using AMOLED (to expensive to produce now) and the 4G denotes 4th generation of the iPhone and not 4G as in the data connection.

I think it's best for you to go to http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/iphone4/rates.asp and http://www.digi.com.my/iphone/getone_want_iphone.html and http://www.celcom.com.my/smartphones/iphone.php#iphone1 and compare for yourself. Only you know what you want right?

Yes ... in term of warranty as it's not an international warranty but according to the country of purchase.

What do you need? a phone or a media player? If phone then iPhone. If media player then iPod or iPad. Simple as that.

As for the version of which device, it depends on the budget that you have. iPhone 4 prices won't go down that far like other phone even if new phone comes out.

In the end, it's your choice to get what device. If you yourself have no idea, what more to say we all.

All iPhones bought from telco or online stores are given warranty by Apple. In your case, the picture turn hazy when using a case? If not using a case then the picture will be ok? If so then it's not the phone problem right? If case problem but want to exchange phone, that's not right, right?
