So it's February 2010 and March is just around the corner. I've heard rumors saying that the new IPhone 4G will be released in Jun/July, some say September and those in the official Apple/Mac forum said it won't be out until at least 2011 or 2012 due to AT&T this and that.
But what I'd like to hear are your opinions here from lowyat because I plan to get an IPhone in within 1-2 weeks. So what's it gonna be? Just go for it, or wait for the 4G? Or any other suggestions?
Hi, my 2 cents. There's a difference whether you're referring to the iPhone "4G" or the "fourth generation" iPhone.
- 4G as in, the successor to the current 3G telecommunications network.
- fourth gen as in, iPhone 2G (1st gen), iPhone 3G (2nd gen), iPhone 3GS (3rd gen), iPhone-in-2010 (4th gen).
The iPhone expected to be launched this year (the fourth generation) might or might not be 4G ready, as you mentioned yourself. This is because AT&T is also not expected to roll out their 4G network until 2011 or 2012 (source: macrumors.com). But again, this is all speculation.
In short, yes it's expected there will be a new iPhone model announced in June/July, released in Sept -- but whether it is 4G, no one outside of Apple knows.
Hope that helps
