QUOTE(machininee @ Oct 27 2009, 09:17 PM) All iPhones come either officially unlocked or locked to the carrier depending from which country you buy. So, if you have bought a locked set, you will have some 'problems'. Advice by the seasoned forummers here is buy officially unlocked sets.However, i2G is locked as it was only available from the States before people brought it out to unlock and sell/use worldwide. |

Ok, please delete my post if it is irrelevant seeing the strict enforcement of time wasters here. I would be grateful if I can be pointed to any previous post if any.
I am in a bit of a dilemma here. I am thinking of upgrading my plan because I seems to be paying as much as a ivalue 2 (RM155) plan but getting less out of what I am paying now (Value plus 2). So I am thinking of upgrading to ivalue 1 (RM100) and buy an iphone in the process. I am happy with the rate plan but my dilemma is this: Should I get 3G or 3GS? My considerations (or dilemma) as follows: - 3GS Long waiting period. Expensive - still cost 1.7k for 24 months period Faster processor and more memory space No sure I need all 16g of memory space same features with OS3.1 3G in Malaysia is slow (read other ppl's posting am using 3G phone too) Not sure I can fully exploit the potential of 3GS 3G shorter waiting period less expensive - 1.2k? slower processor only 8G memory space.... Might get outdated faster as it has already been out nearly one year and more. Missing some features........ Cost is a consideration as it will be my 2nd change of phone this year and I skewed towards 3G cause I dun think i will fully exploit 3GS and won't be missing the compass function..... So? Which would the gurus here advise? |

@ buyou12
it depends how much you plan to utilise it on a daily basis. making/receiving calls and texting are the essential bits of a phone, so we will leave that variables out. if you intend to use it like daily and rely on it as if it mimics a netbook, opt for the 3GS. you will be surprised every little extra amplifies a long way. a female friend of mine is keen to get an iPhone too, and judging from her usage pattern and daily life, she is better off with the 3G. that's my experience as an iPhone user since the first generation. Well.....I would use it as a netbook but probably for very basic functions such as surfing the news, facebook and MSN.....
The problem is I might not have the time and drive to dip into the deep end of iphone ownership in terms of exploiting its potential and I dun want to end up with too much tech but rarely used. I would probably be very happy and more than satisfied with 3GS but can i feel the same or if say 60 to 90% happy if I use 3G only? In the process save a few hundred bucks? Thanks Nokia2003 for your feedback...very much appreciated.... |

@buyou12,
If u really wanna harness the iPhone and it's features, I'll recommend that u go for the i3GS. Based on ur calculation, it's a difference of 1.8-1.2k. The RM600 difference (IF u can afford it goes quite a long way if you decide to really make full use of your phone) Also, wouldn't it give you better resale value when you opt to dispose it off? |

ok la, its about 400 diff between 3G and 3GS if I take ivalue 1 for 24 months...I can afford it but am trying to pinch a bit here and there if I can and on thing not very necessary to me. Hence my thought about whether 3G would be sufficient for my usage or not.
Besides, I am very bad at selling my old handsets....still have my dopod 818 pro with me after nearly three years? Still going strong but its like a brick..... Again, really appreciate the inputs here....it help me make my decision, for better or for worst! |

If really for pure surfing, and facebook/twitter/etc
I think 3G is good enough If you plan to go towards gaming, must take 3Gs definitely Other than that.. maybe if you plan for GPS then the compass might be important? |

@buyou12,
When U swap over to the iPhone U'll definitely be harnessing some of it's features be it IM/Safari/Stocks/Weather on the go. And if you're into games, of course the i3GS is the one to go. The ultimate choice is urs; and don't regret getting whichever model; they're both good @nokia2003, Sudah 5 months ah?! And what about 5 sets? *grins* |
