There's always a risk involved when buying 2nd hand stuff thingy coz u're paying cheaper price. Better find one that the warranty still valid so that you can claim from Maxis(singtel) if anything goes wrong with the phone.
*
and in order to warranty to be valid, make sure that it has not be subjected to any water accidents before.

check the Liquid Submersion Indicator thoroughly.

come on, you don't have to use an iPhone to know how to read right?

i believe the explanation on the apple website is more than sufficient for you to comprehend with ease.

guys i need help urgent.

should i buy the iphone for maxis or this forum better?
in this forum i can get iphone 3g 8GB RM1500.

how bout the maxis?which one is worth to buy ?

thank you for help
*
wow, just when i thought such a highly subjective question will never appear.

there are so many elements to consider from, and i'm probably just naming a handful...

1. local warranty?
2. full 12 months warranty coverage?
3. the decreased probability of purchasing a stolen unit?
4. the euphoric feeling of opening the packaging?
5. the joy of not using a used unit?
6. the confident level of the unit hasn't been abused, dropped, been in some dodgy places (yes, i have friends dropping phones down the squad down toilet before) ?
7. the thought of the unit previously used as sexual vibrator?
8...
9...
10...

and now weight those pros/cons against your RM499.

Added on August 29, 2009, 5:27 pmthe way you perceive the value of RM499, is different from how i perceive it.

At the rate Maxis offer the phone with call plan, its almost no brainer of buying a jailbreak, grey import, or used. This is more so for folks considering any mid-high end touch screen phone which cost easily 1.3k onward to 2+k....

With only 12 months plan at Ivalue 2 of RM155 permonth, its only 1790 or 1290 for 24 months. If you are heavy phone user, even better. Go for Ivalue 3 and get it cheaper for iphone.

And getting Iphone without data plan is a suicide plan! Iphone by design is data intensive gadgets which is why all coutries selling them with data plan. Even the lowly ivalue 1 from Maxis come with 500mb worth of data... which is about 13-14mb daily or 1gb for ivalue 2 which come with 80 dollar worth of call and 12cents per min.

If you buy own iphone, you need to subsribe P80 and RM58 data plan for 500mb.  That is already 138 vs 155 where you get a subsidized iphone for 1290 or 1790. If you can get Australia unlock unit at less than 1.8k for 16gb, then its worth the effort given the out lay is the same with no commitment. Otherwise just take 12 month plan. How often you change your mobile carrier anyway....
*
however you have to remember that for majority of the working class population, they are using some sort of "company mobile phone/line" and therefore switching over to another network may not be feasible.

companies typically get special corporate rates and they may not rival maxis' iPhone packages and implying that they are not financially sensible.

Hi, just wan inform/confirm.

I just got my Iphone 3GS...2nd batch, book from maxis MEP shop...however the Model Number is not MC134MY or MC133MY.

Mine is MC131MY....so...is this a new model number for Malaysia?
*
could be. however it is interesting to note that apple no longer publish these serial/model numbers on its website anymore.

perhaps because apple is constantly refurbishing the phones and sending them across the globe irrespective of the serial/model numbers.

@wigilante,
Possibly - I will add that model number to Post #1 now.  It sure is interesting to see so many different model numbers for this particular region.  Then again it might be the same for the other places except we aren't tracking.
*
you can also add MC134X as an australian bound unit.

should have checked my previous subsequent unit(s) tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

heck u sure reply fast. the word 'push' i am very phobia against it.... = battery drain.

anyway, watch out for tomorrow's new ipod touch launch...and hopefully FW3.1 launch. yipee!
*
not sure if what i'm about to say makes sense.

but the push for the mobileme e-mail works like your typical iTunes approved push apps like beejive, eBay et cetera.

hence technically, it is "designed" not to consume as much (the reason why it was introduced in the first place i.e. information is sent to an apple push notification centre and subsequently to end consumers)

mobileme e-mail reminds me a lot of my blackberry days. totally different from the dubious yahoo "push" feature on the iPhone.

Hi there,
I have a friend in Japan saying that one could purchase a jailbreak 3GS for ~RM2000. Does anyone here have any experience about buying jailbreak 3GS from Japan? One stupid question, if someone bought this jailbreak 3GS phone and bring back to Malaysia, will it still work if we are to use any local sim card provided?
*
if you ask me, nothing beats an officially unlocked unit.

japan bound units are locked to the network.

Thanks Nokia2003. Does that mean the jailbreak will not even work local sim card?
*
it will, but at the moment, not yet.

but buying a locked unit and relying on jailbreaking as a mean of unlocking, is analogous to, playing the cat and mouse game.

whenever that there is a new firmware/update, you have to be reliant on third parties.

pay the extra for an officially unlocked unit and save your potential future hassle.

hi any 3g /3GS iphone owners can test out and clarify if it can

1) upload picture photo to Lowyat.net / ebay
2) can login into (online banking ) i,e M2u or paypal site..?
*
1. this has to be done via an external picture server (for example photobucket) and from there, obtain the URL for the said image. however for some blogs, like blogger, you can e-mail pictures directly from the iPhone.

2. yes. as a matter of fact, paypal, actually has its own dedicated iPhone/iPod touch app, to ease your paypal related transactions.

and

Maybank2 u online ?
*
generally speaking, any web based sites that have stamped its existence on the app store, will have the ability to upload pictures directly (yes, there is a dedicated app for facebook on the app store).

not too sure about maybank. but since it doesn't incorporate any java/flash (assumption), maybank2u online should work as prescribed.

Funny enough, I dont see a price tag to a 16GB iPhone 3G[S] in the Canada Apple website.

Would a 16GB be enough for iPhone or better to go for the 32GB? I wonder what is the price difference and is it worth paying more for just capacity without any functionality difference.

Not even sure whether to go with the black / white case. Does the white gets dirty over time?
*
you can this this as a rough estimate for the price differences.

the white doesn't get dirty, but if there are cracks, they will be more prominent against the white based iPhones.

Ok, my estimate is about USD$199 as well. As long as it is below RM1000 - RM1200, I will buy it if they allow to buy the device only without any subscription plans. smile.gif Thank you.
*
mind you, the site that i have just supplemented you with, is the australian version. hence the currency is in AUD.

not many countries sell outright and unlocked iPhones (australia is one of them)

i still in dilemma whether to get the instant stock ready 3G or put myself into the 3GS booking list ...

i think i will use the phone mainly for online, rarely will use the video recording and i not a game freak ...

and i check the 3G from maxis, the version is 3.1 ... means will have the battery drain issue ?

any advice ?
*
the more powerful processor, is not just limited to games per se.

your overall iPhone experience will be less laggy and more responsive (for example, when you are typing a long post on LYN via safari)

the battery issue is only plaguing certain people if you ask me (because either their expectation differ vastly or first time iPhone users) because as far as it concerns me, it is alright.

*
3.1.2 has only been released, like what? just give it a little more time before we can even assess its battery life.

anyway, if the iPhone's battery life, does concern you a lot, you should consider purchasing an external battery pack.

a few suggestions:

1. Kensington Mini Battery Pack for iPhone/iPod <- i'm using this personally.

2. mophie Juice Pack Air for iPhone 3G
