I am willing to accept ur point. but it can be some points that the seller could install IS after the color was changed.
If seller allow to peel off the IS and the phone  cover has nothing problem, its buyer's fault. there should be agreement btw buyer and seller before peel off . I just explain to u that some buyers should know this problem coz  this is not the small amount to buy iphone. thanks. smile.gif

Frozzbyte is reiterating the findings of Apple which I have actually posted in this forum earlier that stains are not caused by overheating but casings that owners use. In any event, what I posted is fair and you stepping away from the purchase is correct since the seller did not take the initiative to do more to conclude the sale.

Try this. Instead of typing the country as Malaysia, type Singapore. For 3G, that was the way, not sure about 3GS. Anyway, the Service/Warranty Card should suffice as an authentic warranty document.

@tink and especially frozzbyte, I take my hat off to you.

Even after expounding, he still does not seem to be guided or worse is adamant. Well, we can only do so much to try and help, at least for me, I draw the line much nearer than you guys.

if few hundred bucks difference, might as well get one from maxis. then no need to care about  locked or unlock issue.
*
If the difference of buying a unit say from HK which by the way is also officially unlocked, is a few hundred ringgit, I would, seeing that the iPhone is unlike other HPs which normally is quite durable and problem free. But, mind you, only if you get from other countries which sell the officially unlocked sets, not the locked ones.

I strongly suggest you read the pinned threads otherwise possessing an iPhone and not knowing the 'ins and outs' is as good as having a Ferrari without a driving licence.

Hi

I want to buy the iphone 3gs 16gb. At first i was planning on getting it from maxis but then i heard that i will have to wait 1-2 months (or even longer!). Plus a friend told me that once you jailbreak the phone, you cant claim the warranty anymore. Besides that i've been hearing a lot of bad things about the maxis post-paid plans (poor 3g coverage, bill runs up on its own etc)

So now im planning on buying it from lowyat plaza..

I thought the price was 2500 but today my friend went there and asked...they said its 2500 for US phone (unlocked) but you need to go back to them for software updates....2700 for malaysian phone (can update yourself)

so...

1) How do i find out the real price at lowyat?
2) whats the real deal with US vs Malaysian unlocked?
3) what do i do?! HELP!!!

Id really appreciate some advise guy smile.gif
thanks

There may be others who might be willing to spend some time and give you some insights but I suggest you read the pinned threads which would put you in good stead to make a good decision and make a correct purchase. It is imperative you do that if you do not want to blow more than 2 grand.

I did and the only relevant thing i found was with the officially unlocked phone (maxis i assume) you can use GSM simcard based carriers around the world......i dont travel much so i dont think this would apply to me
*
With due respect, either you just skimmed through or you just read some of the pinned threads only.

Before I got my first iPhone, I read each post in every pinned thread which hence helped me not just bought the right one from the outset but also enlightened me in so many aspects of the iPhone which I reiterate is imperative as it is not just any smart phone.

The reason I deduced that is, if you have read thoroughly, you would have gotten the answers to your questions.

For you and others who post questions without reading the pinned threads, can I ask whether do you guys ever wonder why most of the time, no one seems to bother to afford any answer and/or solution???

i3G does not come with the 32gb variant. Only 3GS thus far.

hmm.. from my understanding, the gift one also still locked to AT&T.. I just ask my family to buy one for me.. what they do is, they bought $199 using AT&T.. then after 2mths terminate the line which cost $175 per iphone. so total cost around $375 excluding tax for 16gig 3Gs..

Added on January 11, 2010, 4:46 pm
hmm.. is it that bad? because I heard somewhere also that once u reboot ur iphone it will be locked again.. already ask my brother to check if they can unlock there.
*
It may not be warranted but I'll give you a piece of advice.

Before that, let me correct you that for the iPhones with the latest bootrom, once you reboot, you would have to jailbreak again and that is called tethered jailreak. It won't be locked. If you do not want this problem, get a relatively new used unit, not with the latest bootrom from GS here. There are many going around. In that manner, you can also opt to buy the new iPhone due in the middle of the year without having to waste a really huge sum of money. If you choose not to change to the new model, at least you do not have the headaches that genocide stated and all those in the know concur.

Not if you buy from Maxis. It could well be that overseas telcos may provide the cloth.

All iPhones sold by appointed telcos are original. It is only phones from certain countries which you need to unlock as they are locked to their service providers.

Not all iPhones sold in the States are unlocked. Only certain telcos have decided to sell the unlocked version.

U guys sure o not you can purchase iPhone from T-Mobile? As I know, AT&T still have exclusive rights to iPhone until June/July this year. Even going thru their websites didn't show you can purchase the iPhone what more to say an unlocked ones.

Maybe you are confused between the google nexus one which is unlocked with an iPhone.

If i'm wrong, please furnish us with the source. Not just by saying "I hear from this and that". If this is true than websites like macrumors, appleinsider and tipb would publish such news.

Trust this would allay your skepticism, frozz, extracted from a website which in fact was raised here before.

Unlocked Apple iPhone Available From Buy.com in the U.S.
Written on April 13, 2009 by Darrell Etherington and 6 people have commented
If you’re still skittish about being locked in for a lengthy contract and don’t mind the fact that new hardware will almost undoubtedly be hitting the streets in only a couple of short months, and if you have money lying around not doing anything useful, Buy.com has a deal for you, for the low price of $799. That’s the price you’ll pay for a brand-new, in-box, unlocked Apple iPhone from Buy.com. In fact, it’s better than unlocked, it’s never been locked in the first place, so you won’t have to worry about sketchy jailbreaking/unofficial unlocking procedures if you’re not tech-savvy.

The never-locked 16GB iPhone 3G comes with a full Apple warranty, which is probably not the case with most unlocked units you’ll find on eBay, but Buy.com does warn that you might not be able to understand your product’s instruction manual, since the devices come from all over the world, and not necessarily English-speaking countries. That means this is probably a case of an overstock buy-out from a variety of global carriers in preparation for the June WWDC ‘09 iPhone hardware refresh.

Apparently you can easily swap out SIM cards using these models, so if you’re a globetrotter, this might just answer your prayers. And maybe Om Malik, over at our sister site GigaOM, can finally come back to the iPhone fold using a more dependable network than AT&T’s. T-Mobile, or any of the 30 different smaller GSM carriers in the U.S., will work with these phones out of the box, according to Buy.com’s product information site. Plus, unlike with unofficially unlocked phones, you can connect to iTunes and update without worrying about being locked out and having to jailbreak again.

I’ve been wanting a second device so that I can devote one to testing, and it’d be nice to have something I can travel with and use pay-as-you-go SIMs with so as not to get charged massive roaming fees, but my heart flutters every time I think about that $799 price tag. Plus, I’m already going to be sufficiently gouged when the new iPhone hardware comes out in June and I have to try to talk my carrier into allowing me an upgrade when I still have two years left on my contract.

Buy.com may just be trying to move more units, but they are claiming that they have very few units left in stock. Anyone planning on picking one of these up? If so, what for? Is the $799 price justified, considering the freedom you get by avoiding a contract/AT&T’s spotty network?

Errr ... this is from Buy.com and not from T-Mobile or other telco. They got the phone from all over the world from the said article and it's only for 16GB iPhone 3G (not 3Gs). USD$799 for a 16GB iPhone 3G? Izzit worth it?
*
Knew you will say this. Yeah, apologies for the misinformed availability by the telco thingy.

The fact still remains that unlocked units are available in the States now as opposed to previously when you can't even smell one. Cheers.

It just flashed by in my mind and I am not too sure about this but I remember reading somewhere that AT&T is no longer the sole 'distributor' for iPhones in the States. Perhaps someone can either refute or rebut this.

Hey. I'm new here and I'm not sure whether it's the right place to ask but, is the iPhone 3Gs worth buying than the 3G version?

I'm currently eye-ing on getting an iPhone, trying to find a shop to buy it. Around KL and PJ. Not going to get it from Maxis due to family disagreeing about it. sleep.gif

But I'm still insist of getting an iPhone. biggrin.gif

Just trying to find a shop to buy it and it must be cheaper than Maxis. And it must be unlocked too? I don't know anything about all these but I just want to get the phone and use it coz I'm a strong social-networking person plus, it's better to get an iPhone than an iPod touch coz it's like 2 in 1 kinda thingy if you get me. biggrin.gif

Anyone can help me with this? Thanks. smile.gif
*
I will propagate that you check out Garage Sales(GS) here. It is, for many reasons, better but the main one is shop dealers will probably not tell you the whole truth about the iPhones they are selling, for one, telling you it is unlocked but not saying it is not officially. It is always and I repeat ALWAYS wise to get an officially unlocked unit.

Please read the pinned threads here before you splurge your hard earned money. And yes, i3GS is better than 3G but you may want to consider that the 'new' model is due out June/July.

I am venturing a guess as at the time of posting my 3G is not with me and I have only my 3GS to look at. I think one is 3G and the other is 3GS as it is unfathomable for Apple or any manufacturer to have different prints for different countries due to cost factor.
