First post updated with a downloadable pdf file on Part/Model Number for reference on the origins of the iPhone.
Way to many buyers got tricked by sellers in buying the iPhone which are not unlock unit. Hope this helps to curb it from happening further. Cheers This post has been edited by davidgary73: Apr 21 2009, 02:16 PM |

QUOTE(hsienhsien @ Apr 22 2009, 12:30 AM) Why don't you do away with the headaches and buy an officially unlocked unit? After all it is only a few hundred ringgit more which is worth it. You just don't know what problems can crop up with those locked sets which you have to unlock using yellowsnOw or turbo/rebel/gevey SIM.Do not be penny wise and pound foolish. |

Hello internet!
Today I'll meet with a guy who sold a used iPhone 3G 16GB. The only issue that make me worry is the iPhone was unlock by hardware (Sim Unlocker). The guy say, the reason is because his brother accidentally upgrade to FM2.2.1. His thread - http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1008641 It is safe for me to buy it or better for me to looking for another iPhone? |

just get the official unlocked iphone and it will be easier and you will be satisfy with it, if you buy it then buy grey sim unlocker etc, you will get hassle in dealing with it, especially when new firmware comes out..
trust me, buy officialy unlocked phone rather than locked phone, sometimes when you spend high amout of money you will satisfied with it. |

optus australia has a new revamped offer for the iPhone 3G!
and i quote "get an 8GB iPhone 3G for $0 upfront on a $59 cap now" take note that this offer is only enticing IF you are planning to use the allocated and bundled tariff. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

Got a friend who came back from China and he's showing me a clone '16GB' Iphone. Looks like the genuine one, with a batch of IMEI no. printed on the backcover. The whole box looks genuine enough, comes with all the accessories of an Iphone. What's set it apart from the real Iphone is the battery looks kinda cheap and comes with dual-sim card support. While plugging it into a PC, it reveals that the 16GB storage is a hoax. The whole thing has only 8GB storage capacity. The so call manual is another joke, with only 3 pages of short description on how to operate the function of the phone. The manual is best suite as emergency toilet paper.
I suspect these clone Iphone are originally real Iphone but was discard before leaving the final production line in a factory due to some defect, so someone took them and revamp and selling it cheap on the market. He kept bragging it was so cheap (RM 300 for 1!) and had bought 5 of them back home. My initiate respond was telling him careful not to burn a hole in your pants with one of them. Bringing a clone phone going out is just ain't cool man. EDIT: *realize this might not be a good place to rant* This post has been edited by zioburosky13: Apr 25 2009, 10:53 PM |

Anyway, zioburosky13 thanks for the warning.
There is always cloned items from c hina. To be honest, alot of frauds in there trying to sell many cloned stuffs. For example,Samsung Omnia. The cloned version is called as Sumsang Omnia. Hence, a person must always be in alert mode when buying something expensive but in a very low or lower price. |
