yeap, but M seems better for events, you'll have more control over lighting. i saw my colleague directly behind eddy ahhahaha
M gives you full controls but try going event and manually have to handle shutter + aperture just to get the right exposure. no time leh, especially if the event has like many fancy lightings (that changes) - just turning from left to right also have different degree of light available that - you have to keep up the pace of adjustments.

i'd rather just use Av mode, control the aperture (and ISO) and let the camera do shutter setting - still beats having a lot of "AIYAH!!!" due to human error. smile.gif you can go see how many photographers at events actually use M mode.

oh, not talking about metering la. i'm talking about exposure. i hate to be having to adjust both aperture and shutter just to get the right exposure when i should be busy with keeping eye out for composition opportunity. smile.gif

Oh.........
tech event composition?
won't bother too much as long as got mugshot, one shot of the actual launch, and one shot of other happenings and a model shot, i'm fine tongue.gif
other events yea, it does take up some of your time if you use M, but if you are used to it, why not biggrin.gif
smile.gif i didn't say tech event.

for me it's not whether USED TO IT. for me, it's whatever the fastest.

i love Av mode simply because my shots are mostly based on aperture so I'll let the came decide the shutter.

Use according to situation lar...

For me:

Wedding dinner reception - M mode as the lighting seldom change and you can easily adjust your flash power.

Daytime tea ceremony - M mode mostly and if situation warrants, A mode.

You can usually get the hang of the exposure with one or two test shots. Sunlight does not change that fast or often either so you can safely use one setting if not shooting for long periods of time.

Unless you are going indoors and outdoors and indoors again and pass tunnels and have weird lighting and all.
ahh sunlight. it also depends on direction of the sun. in some cases. turning different area would mean different exposure.

last time i n00b. always use M mode, a lot of things snap la but kinda slow.

then i met some expert photographer from SG - teach me about modes. smile.gif nowadays I just stick to modes for the convenience. rarely touch M already.

Another thing with sunlight(harsh light) that I realized.
1) metering cant help much when there is a strong backlight (behind of ur object) causing the exposure to go wrong result and an underexposed shot
2) AF keeps hunting when the backlight is too strong.

Therefore, i will use flash to fill in to get the correct exposure.
*
yeah. fill in needed. even with best available metering, the subject still would be really under-exposed.

Info to share.

I just bought a Alpha 300 single lens kit with 4GB Sony 133x CF card, cheapo tripod and cheapo small carrying bag for RM1890 from Tarita's roadshow going on at the Lowyat Plaza concourse.
nice choice. i intend to get A300 as well but not so soon.
