yup, mainly because of the filter..lens itself also can cause a flare..wat filter u have?buy a great filter can reduce the flare but IMO not using filter at nite and shoot light more better..me using hoya filter also got flare..

Alternatively, you may want to consider waiting for the HSM version which was announced recently, but don't know when will it be available. However, no one knows about the price of this new version, as well as its performance. But I am using a Sigma lens with HSM as well at the moment and one thing I can tell you is that it is a heavy battery consumer! Be prepared to get extra battery for your camera if you want the HSM version...

The 55-200 is actually good for closeup and portraits.
