I just bought my xbox360 jasper arcade a few days ago.
when i'm in the dashboard menu, it's really quiet. but once i insert a disc into the tray, all hell breaks loose.
so I'm guessing its the dvd drive is emitting the loud noise.

and its really really loud. far louder by any means than my old ps2.

so I'm wondering if everyone is facing the same problem? how are you able to tolerate with it?

thanks for the replies man.

The thing is, the Jasper Arcade comes without the harddisk, but now to buy one external xbox harddisk is friggin' expensive. OMG, shoulda done more "research" before i went off buying one. it's really noisy.

but it's kind of a relieve to hear others facing the same problem.
wonder how you tolerate with it? how long can one play, with noise that loud? one-two hours maybe max...

Modding of the XBOX360 IS about the DVD-ROM firmware...got it? doh.gif

sorry didn't know bout that, thought it had something to do with the what motherboard chip and the firmware, cause i don't remember us having to change anything for the dvd-rom firmware if we wanted to play "those" games on the computer.

so, it matters not whether if now i try to play an original game rite? the noise will still be there, because of the much spinning of the disc?

If you're playing jack sparrow games it's noisier due to the poor quality.

I tried with original games and it's not that noisy after all.

wait a minute, i didn't get that right, so are you saying that playing original games would decrease the noise?

are you for real? if thats true i did be stupefied glad!! shocking.gif laugh.gif rclxm9.gif

alrite alrite, but why is it that some of the games i played, they don't emit much noise at all, whilst some others make a lot more noise.

i took the *ahem* version of tales of vesperia to play, it was silent, well not literally silent, but much more quiet, and i mean it much much more quiet. But all the other games i tried made a hell lotta noise.

i haven't tried original games though. thats why i was wondering if original games will be much less noisier. i would be delighted if it is.

Like i said, certain DVDs are thicker compared to others. Since you're using jack sparrows, their DVDs vary in terms of the thickness.

I bet when you go for ori, this problem won't happen.

thanks for all the replies guys.

and regarding what you said, Kyoyagami, i hope what you said is true. cause thats probably the easiest solution.

Modded console requires higher reading rate to avoid any lag during game play. That's why you experience the noise. In addition to it, you will find there is disc to disc variation in the noise level which depends on the disc quality. The spinning sound is considerably irritating. Some people may have thought that it is acceptable but some of them may not. Just get a HDD and install the game into it to eliminate the noise. I am happy with my 120GB (self upgraded version from 20GB) which the noise is totally eliminated. I am also one of them who gets irritated easily by the spinning noise. smile.gif

thanks for the reply.
guess i really should get the additional harddisk.*sigh* ohh bumper.

but something doesn't add up, why is it that the unmodded version of the jasper arcade doesn't make that much noise, whilst it also doesn't have a harddisk.

well, some others have already answered me all sorts of answers.
Some said the modded one has different dvd-rom firmware.
Guess theres a lot of problems.

Added on February 9, 2009, 11:35 pmim still hoping it can be solved with the original games disc issue.

i hope that by using/playing an original game would have less noise.
pls pls pls lol

Literally, you should know there is difference between original and jack sparrow disc. The price is so much different as well. You shouldn't compare a original disc to a pirated disc.

okay, alrite alrite, so now i've already tried out both the original and well jack sparrow disc games. the wasn't much of a difference. the dvd drive was still spinning like mad. it was still very noisy mind you. owh gosh.

so now do i really have to get an external harddisk? i mean, come on really, if it can solve the noisy problem i did be glad.
or not i think i'll just send it back to the shop.
mind you, i bought it from nelson koay, not even a week ago.
really didn't expect this to happen.
