8 space? What is that?

Anyway I think all those System Restore points that the Windows Update setup do for each hotfix may have reduced the HDD space you have. Just delete them if you think you do not need them.

i have the same problem too

but already clear some space by removing the restore point.i have clear abaot 7Gb from it
this link will help you.
http://liveslick.com/2007/09/03/is-vista-e...rd-drive-space/

but i have a question, what is the function of C:ProgramData (hidden file), it use 19.5Gb of my C: space.
planning to delete some info in it but afraid it has to be the system files.

Please don't delete hidden files. They're hidden for a reason (so that you don't delete accidentally).

what's you downloading is compress installer file.
after install, it decompress/extract everywhere in your hdd, then eaten up your free space

also, if system restore = turn on, system restore also make a copy some part of your system

also windows keep your backup registry, update log, also keep your update file in SoftwareDistribution folder.

del all file in
Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\*.*

for safety use cleaning software like CCleaner / TuneUpUtilities

also you can try SP1 cleanup.
*open command prompt (type CMD at start menu, right click at cmd open as administrator)
*type vsp1cln.exe then hit enter
*follow the step, wait until finish then see how many GB will recovered

Mind posting a screenshot. Btw, you must launch "CMD" in "Administrator Mode".

the problem you guys have might be related to the vista shadow storage. It's kinda like a system restore points and causes you to lose space just like that... To set how much for the shadow storage to occupy, read this webbie:

Referring to your screenshot. "vsp1cln.exe" only works for SP1 Vista (32/64-Bit) but your screenshot only shows ".6000" which is not SP1. sweat.gif Update through Windows Update and run "vsp1cln.exe" again. icon_rolleyes.gif

Now, there shouldn't be any more problem regarding updating to SP1 as the update has been released for quite a while already. icon_rolleyes.gif
