siberia v2 is definitely worth your bucks. its normal pricing is around rm 399. so for rm249, definitely worth your rm50 top up.
its not 5.1 or 7.1. but you can achieve a virtual 7.1 with the usb soundcard.
but if you alrdy have a good dedicated soundcard, den no point with the usb soundcard.
my point of view, save another few days of food consumption, and go for the siberia v2. smile.gif

Hmmm is the promotion still going on?

Anyone here uses Audio Technica A700 for gaming? smile.gif I was really blown away by the sounds, even though I don't have a soundcard. Previously I was using cheaper 30+ head sets but its like comparing cat and tiger in terms of loudness. Really impressive but heavy on the wallet. cry.gif

Yes, i love it so much biggrin.gif

everything is so clear to me.

btw, look at my siggy

Yours is the open back right? I chose the 'closed' one for privacy biggrin.gif.

Only slack thing about it is since it isn't technically a gaming head-set, there is no mic and in-line volume control. cool.gif

Im eyeing for the z2 which is 199, around about razer Orca price... But the limited edition ones really tempt me...sadly no moolah now since most of my budget went towards mechanical kb, a new mouse, a new mouse pad this month sad.gif

How does the Z2 compare to Siberia V2?

I'm also in a search for a headset mainly for gaming and voip chat. Plan to match with a Xonar DG. Currently don't plan to spend too much. Wish we could get US pricing sad.gif instead of the inflated prices we pay here.

Just wondering how much a difference is Siberia V2 vs Razer Carcharias, looking at the prices it would seem Razer is lower end. Both seem to score on comfort which is important as I intend to use this for a few hours at a time for music and gaming.

Currently using ATH-A700 and also a Superlux HD669.

Siberia V2 is really comfortable, the head bands  kinda just sit on ur hair and it wont give much pressure on the sides of ur head. Charcharias is kinda the opposite though.

Xonar DG is a good budget card with a build in headphone amp, worth the buy.
*
Yup, the DG is good upgrade from the onboard sound. I've paired that with the Superlux and there is definitely a difference with and without the DG.

Anyone heard of the new range of Philips headphones launched just this year? They have a gaming line as well. No reviews yet. I wonder how they stack up against the current leaders.

Price indicate it's competing with at least the Razer Carcharias.

Hmmmm can't wait to get my own set of M50s. Using A700s now, hope to buy M50 one day after this headset business is done.

Any headset you own come close to the M50 audiophile headphones? Like if compared to V2, Kave etc?

Yeah, I've been using cheapo <RM50 headsets for a long time before switching to more expensive headphones. The difference is black and white.

Don't bother pairing cheap headsets with soundcards, no difference. In my opinion anyway.

No man, just a general statement. Sorry if I offended you.

I'm just speaking from experience because all those cheap headsets I bought last time and it keep breaking I just wished I wised up earlier and bought a good one. doh.gif

Creative Singapore has a sale going on during their annual COMEX (pc show)

Some good buys there include their famous CAL for SGD99 (Creative Aurvana Live) and also Aurvana X-FI for SGD129.

Can buy online in their website with free delivery in SG.

Checking our LYN sales thread, the CAL is going for RM369 and AUrvana X-FI RM469.

So stand to save about RM100+ on each pair of cans.

FYI.

hi guys,

here are some choice i have singled out. appreciated your kind advice on which to get.

1. Razer Carcharias 2.1 Gaming Headphone RM279
2. Armageddon avatar pro X5 5.1 surround RM239
3. Steelseries Siberia V1 RM219
*
Among the 3, the Carcharias is reviewed more favourably. The Armageddon headsets has no online reviews that I read before. The Siberia V1 is known to be the weaker brother of the V2. So among the choices, I would go for the Carcharias.

Hmmm surround sound no good for music or something?

I remember one time I had surround sound system (not headset), had to always switch to stereo mode to listen to nice music.

No, atleast imo. Had Roccat Kave before. Music with it was horrendous. Take example AT M50 vs Kave, difference is... shocking.gif
*
I see, so far I have no experience with those 'true' surround sound headsets, only stereo.

Only 'true' surround sound I experience was the actual 5.1 speaker system. And like you, the experience was not that good with music because music not made for surround sound.

Stay away from any gaming headphone/earphone that with strong emphasize of surround. Instead, go to Jaben and ask for 'good sound stage recommendation' but do not forget this is a warning as well. Once you tried, there is no turning back.
*
I already own a pair of ATH-A700, yeah like you said, no turning back.

Im aiming for ATH-A700X, same one but with better earcups. I think similar to the ones on the M50.
*
Yeah my pads on my A700 already started to flake after 3 years of heavy use.

In SG if I go to the Audio Technica service centre it costs 36SGD to replace it.

Roughly Rm90 for a replacement pair?  shocking.gif

It only starts to flake after 3 years? Btw hows the sound quality after that period of time?
*
Yeah, they install it for you as well.

Normal shops don't carry replacements because A700/A900 (same pads) don't sell in huge numbers. But most shops carry replacements for M50s.

After 3 years, have not notice any drop in audio quality yet. (no crackling, no zzzz, no pops etc.) The flaking happens in the lower part of the pads near the seams and some parts near where it sits on my ears. Can't say for certain it happened (flaking) exactly 3 years after use, but now it's very noticeable. sad.gif

Never really took any measures to give it proper care, other than wiping it occasionally with a damp cloth.

I'm not sure if I can ask this here but anyway, if I wanted a new headphone with a budget of, say, >=RM250, are there any all-rounder headphones (gaming+music+movie) you guys can recommend?

I am a total newbie in audiophile thingy tongue.gif

PS: My friend recommended me to the Razer Orca, can't test it out so not sure its good or not. hmm.gif

I have a Koss Porta Pro on-ear headphones but with the cable severed accidentally so sent it for repair, might not be done soon, maybe the repair will even takes months.  sweat.gif

I think the main question for your gaming needs is whether or not you need a mic?

A mic on a headset for communication during a game is the convenience we pay for gaming headsets. Otherwise there is no reason to buy a gaming headset and just go for the reputable headphone (without mic) brands.

Your budget of >RM250 gives you a lot of room of how far where you want to go. Or did you meant <RM250? hmm.gif
