Oh yes ! a gaming thread headphone. sweet

I currently have 4 different gaming headset starting with
- Alienware TactX headset
- Roccat Kave
- TurtleBeach z6a
- Astro a50

My opinion :

Alienware TactX headset.
- not a bad headset indeed, very light and since theres no mixer to play around with, very portable. Usually used them when i go for Lan Party. Sound quality is moderate, same as the mic quality.

- but there are something that i would like to address, The ear muffs are abit unforgiving and if you play in a warm condition, your ear start to sweat and it stucks to the muff, and the price going for it is very expensive for the quality it deliveres, i would advice seeking other better headset with that price tag

Roccat Kave
- 1st ever 5.1 headset i have ever purchased. It looks bulky and could take some beating, such as accidentally dropping it to the floor. Above than average sound quality and a sweet mixer that you could play around, couldn't test this baby at its fullest as my sound card were spoiled. Clear Mic quality.

- The headset is quite heavy for even me. My maximum gaming time with this on my head was 3 hours and starting to have neck pains. i do have some trouble putting the mixer on my pc, as i stage myself abit further than it, so the dangling mixer pull my head down quite a few times.

Turtle beach z6a
-very light and the sound is not that bad considering i have yet to replace my sound card. Mic is very clear and it really shows when you're in gaming with skype on. Mixer is very light and it does not take any weight if you were to accidentally dangle it.

- quite disappointed with the build quality that came with the headset. It is so fragile that i broke the left side of the headset part (the adjustable arm connecting from the headrest to the headphone) while unboxing. My jaw dropped and i immediately call the merchant for a replacement. Luckily i did get one after a few weeks, and decided to sell it after using it for awhile.

Astro a50
-i could not give you a good review about this headset as i just started to use them a couple of days ago. But currently its doing what people have been mentioning. Very good sound quality, and the Dolby 7.1 is also a plus, you really can hear the difference when you push that button. 3 settings that gives you the flexibility to adjust using the default presets they installed in the headset itself. You can go for Casual settings, Bass rich settings, or Gaming settings, and all 3 of them kinda works. The right side of the headset has the ability to control/balance gaming sound and voice sound. I have yet to test this since im busy with work. Its lighter than the Roccat Kave but not as light as the TurtleBeach z6a. Its very portable as it is wireless, and i can go to the next room with the headset on without any cuts, only when i went down that the headset cuts completely. The build is simple yet solid

-The stand that came with the headset is plastic, so its very light and the base doesn't have any weight on it if you were to remove the mixamp. The adjustable arm does not extend far like the other headset. Theres alot of defective unit that came out early this year and alot of them were send back to Astro for a fix, according to Astro, they will exchange with a newer headset, not repairing the faulty one. They will also pay for the to-and-from shipping. Astro does not ship its product to Malaysia and Singapore due to order fraud, so obtaining it is a hustle. Mic problems are being fix as there is a fading effect if you were to start talking after pausing for awhile. My unit has it, and im waiting for the tech/engineer guys over Astro to send me a reply on troubleshooting.

Thats all i have for now,

A normal pc would have a onboard sound system, but not the real sound card that normally you should purchase from the shelf. how to see?

Look at the back of your system
Find where is your audio system (be it speaker or headphone connected)
Where is it connected?

If its connected somewhere around the green circle, means its an onboard sound card. If its around the Red circle means its a real sound card. Those 4 slots around the red circle with 2 holes on each end is where we normally install a sound card.

I advice that if you're just using a headset with normal stereo setting, you can either buy something cheap, or non at all. Some new motherboard support 5.1 surround sound. But if you have a proper headset that support something like Dolby Digital Live 7.1 surround sound, i urge you to get something worth while.

Thank you Ash for those kind words smile.gif . Im just sharing what little things i know.

@Math, what skidd said is quite true, the budget you putting does gives a very narrow options to pick from in Malaysia. But if you wanna be abit brave and abit more patient, i'll give you an alternative.

Newegg Malaysia just came to business a few months ago. What they do is that they will quote you a price from the US Newegg website plus shipping cost. This opens to a bigger choices to Malaysian customer. I personally haven't tried this, but have a look into Newegg's website and try asking them from a quotation at their facebook account. They will send an email to you with the pricing and shipping cost.

NewEgg US website : http://www.newegg.com/
NewEgg Malaysia Fb site : http://www.facebook.com/NeweggMalaysia

Im not advertising for NewEgg or anything, just sharing.

I have PCIe x1 and USB. hm~ then below 1k for each item. considered astro A50 b4, it seems like heavy and dunno whr can get it.

Erm... but somehow soundcard improves audio quality isn't it? Anyway, planning to play cs/blackshot soon. =)

@gen
I do own a A50 and I've been using for awhile now, my advice is that you stick with the available headset in Malaysia, it's easier for you to send back if there is any defect.

The headset is not heavy at all, it's a lightweight headset I've been playing with it 12-14 hours straight, it's a good headset but I can't say it was smooth sailing for me, mic problems and sound problems.

It's still relatively new and the company is small so I have to be a little patient with it. So yeah find any headset that you can purchase locally.

A50 had a very hard time cause by the software updates. From the moment I got mine till they finally found a solution took around 8 months. The mic quality was way to sensitive that it picks up the slightest breeze noise & mic recording problem as it cuts off every 5 seconds, incompatibility with Skype, and battery problem. All these made customers very angry and eventually send them back for refunds. The customer service also did not help anyone.

But it's all fixed now and I still have mine, tho it did cost me a lot of money getting it ship to malaysia (wasn't available from Astro site) and facing all this problem plus the worse customer service experience, I still won't sell this baby for anything.
