QUOTE(bl@ze @ Apr 23 2014, 08:14 PM) Haha i've always wondered why people willing to spend money for a good pair..audio bliss is real after all..im planning to stop with the amp and sound blaster zxr for the dsp, no cable hehe..a dac with optical in does sound tempting though Wait hold on!Honestly, the only reason i chose hd800 is for the soundstage..i play alot of battlefield 4 and planning to get titanfall once my pc arrive.. This setup+triple Dell U2414H..a lifelong dream finally achieved You're gonna do line-out from ZxR > Precision 2 > HD800? There's a problem here. The headphone line-out on the ZxR (as well as the entire Z series) has high distortion and channel imbalance, something the RCA line-out does not. However at the same time the ZxR's headphone line out is the one you want to use for SBX as the algorithms for that is different to the SBX afixed to the RCA line out. You'd want to go optical out from the ZxR (in which case you should just save RM400 and get a Z instead) to an external DAC with optical input then to Precision 2. |

Im currently eyeing the NFB2 from audio gd but not sure about the optical input but they do custom specs.. |

That's the only ZXR I could think of being sold cheap. Hahaha. But on the DAC, get the Loki. The Gungnir is above your budget. |

Some DACs cater to a warmer sig, some DACs cater to the neutral and some are just cold and analytical. But the thing is, all of them sounds good. A good DAC is a good DAC, end of story. I always felt that DACs has been overpriced for whatever reasons. Never heard the NFB2 but I have heard the same ES9018 DAC it has on the NFB11.32 and really, I doubt the difference would be anything significant. At least not worth the extra $200. It's like the Schiit Modi vs Bifrost, I saw no reason for the Bifrost at all as the Modi sounds 99% like the Bifrost. Not even exaggerating, but that's how it is. just an update for those looking for a for gaming headset..
after i got my beyerdynamic COP... i need a second pair of headphone for travelling/mobile/office usage... since my COP is well rested at home... so... after learning by advices, by review and own experience that audiophile headphone is the best.... i made kinda mistake for falling for gaming brand again... i bought a TurtleBeach M Seven headphone from ebay... actually eyeing for the Captain America Limited edition.. but it is hard to get it... so i settle for the M Seven... which is... the best TurtleBeach can offer.. (and great ebay/amazon review) i mean the latest (last year?) SEVEN line up.. it is the same headphone with XP,X,M Seven.. just the mixer defines it will fall into what category... and the add on mic...mine come with braided cable and a mic/pickup call button an the breakway cable.. here is what i think where i made the mistake... with the Turtlebeach M Seven 1. bloated bass.... bloated bass everywhere... 2. clamping force too hard.. not good with a big head.. 3. earcup is smaller than the COP.. thinking to change to fabric earpad like the marvel limited edition.. 4. kinda heavier than the COP.. now days i farm diablo 3 while listening to spotify a lot (all kind of music) ... with the TB M7... my ears hurt... from the crushing bass... solution: 1. having another profile in my sound setting just to flatten the bass with the TB M7.. 2. putting the headphone on a stand that loosen the headband.. 3. sell it at garage sale... so, anybody is looking for a TB M7 headphone... thats the point to give a consideration.. peace.. QUOTE(SSJBen @ Apr 24 2014, 12:24 AM) My current one is a HD558, but I've reached a point where I need an upgrade. It's two years old already, and I've been poisoned enough to notice I'm not satisfied anymore. The Mic stays, gonna use it as a seperate piece. Just wanna upgrade my cans.As for what I have in mind, either the MrSpeaker Alpha Dog, or I go for broke and get the JVC DX2000. But that's abit insane on my part. Probably gonna settle on the Alpha Dog , since reviews pretty say it stacks up against the TH900 at 1/3 the price. You did sta yoI've tried the TH900. What was your impressions? |

Probably the best closed-headphones that I've ever heard. That bass, seriously that bass!! It's just on another level of immersiveness. So clean, tactile and textured, so much impact, so deep and just really, it envelopes well mixed audio in the best possible way you can dream of. Obviously being a closed headphone means that the mids will suffer a bit and even the TH900 cannot escape that, the lack of dynamics from not being open does show its weakness here. Some owners say they do hear a bit of distortion on the mids, I don't. The distortion is there on freq. graphs though, but I don't hear it.As for what I have in mind, either the MrSpeaker Alpha Dog, or I go for broke and get the JVC DX2000. What was your impressions? However, by no means the TH900 sounds weak at all. There are still plenty of detail in the mids, it's not up-forward in your face to cause fatigue but it isn't drowned out by that empowering sweet bass it has. Just don't expect the chilling mids you'll find on a HD800 or even a HD650. Imaging on the TH900 is impressive for a closed headphone, Haven't had the chance to hear the Alpha Dogs yet but yeah, I've read many who has both says it's very close to one another. But alternatively, Fostex's lower-end TH600 which sells for about the same price as the Alpha Dogs sounds really close to the TH900 too. And I also know there are some who innitially bought a JVC DX2000 and just switched for the cheaper TH600 just because there's no point in having the DX2000. The TH600 are basically re-badged Denon D7000 (oh and THAT has some of the best presentation of bass out ther too) with just slightly wider soundstage and more refined mids. The differences are very slight though and it could just be down to the different earcup matterials. |

The only reason why I even considered the DX2000 was because to me (please note the only place I've tried headsets is either at work, Jaben or at a friends place) It has THE best bass I've ever heard. Low, controlled, layered and full of impact. Wipes the HD700 and T5P or anything else I've tried on the floor with it. But it also does so without bloating and causing it to it to overpower the mids. However, by no means the TH900 sounds weak at all. The mids aren't as nice as that of open back like the T5P or HD650/700. It does have nice smooth rolled treble. Non of that ear piercing sparkling which I hate. Which is my conundrum because unlike you I haven't tested the Fostex TH600 or 900 or the Denon D7000. Maybe I should try the D7000 and see if it holds up. Definitely won't be getting the TH900 though. Waaaaay outta budget. Yup, that's why I said for the DX2000 I was just plain suicidal. Probably settle for something cheaper but just as good. Thanks for the review. Will take a look at the TH600/D7000 (which I heard is discontinued so D7100). Btw the Alpha dog is cheaper shipped. Around RM2.5K tops. So if the Denon sounds good enough I'll take the Alpha Dog. This post has been edited by Sentinel92: Apr 24 2014, 01:25 AM |

Yeah, right. 2000 hours later, the person had better justified the purchase or he'd be looking stupid in the mirror. I wouldn't take the D7100 as reference to the TH600 because they would be even more disimilar to each other. I think the Mad Dogs is quite a safe choice though, wouldn't feel bad about picking it up at all. |

Which is stupid. Guess i can forget that one. Hmmm, I'll see what I can do. But most probably I'll end up with the Alpha Dogs. Unless I feel it still feels inferior to the DX2000. Owned siberia v1, 3 siberias v2 before
Now using corsair vengeance 1500 Notice that the corsair quality is so much better and much more grippier. Not really good experiences with the siberias but no doubt they are very comfortable to wear. Just that the hinges are not strong and the tend to get loose after a while. |

Then I'm on the Annies for music (though I do take the Annies for competitive gaming over the X1). It's a humble setup but I don't think I wanna jump back into high-end gear anytime soon eventhough I do miss the TH900. Majority of gaming headsets has poor built quality for a reason — the bulk of the money goes into advertising and sponsorship, not into manufacturing the product. |
