What you are hearing is improper output impedance and the fact that laptops has some of the crappiest DACs known to mankind. This is a simple reason why your phone sounds so much better.

Digital analog converter.
Does what it says, converts digital files into analog so that you brain can understand the soundwaves (info on sound basically) from a game, music, movie or anything that makes noise. Human brains cannot process 0 and 1s, so that's why we need DACs. In a nutshell, it has a lot to do with audio quality. You guys can try listening to this clip in a scenario where a perfect HRTF is done: Make sure to run in at least 1080p to get the best audio bitrate YT can output, or better yet download the lossless wav file from the description box in the video's page. Virtual surround works when it is done right, this is another reason why no one needs those multi-channel 5.1/7.1 headsets. |

QUOTE(SpikeTwo @ Sep 23 2013, 08:25 AM) It used to be, for a few years... until Microsoft decided to kill hardware accelerated audio starting in Vista. Games which uses their own HRTF are only present in mostly old games, mostly present in games from the late 90s to early 00s. Especially even more when most games are multiplatform these days and consoles don't have the ability to process HRTF algorithms, hardware accelerated audio has been pretty much dead. Now most games are using pre-canned/baked audio in surround sound. Which is why we need virtual surround codecs like Dolby Headphones, THX TruStudio, SBX Surround, CMSS-3D (though this is based on HRTF) to compensate. Even then, pre-baked audio can never provide the same amount of positional accuracy. |

DSS seems like not selling anymore >< Astro Mixamp or Creative Recon3D USB.Take note that Recon3D uses THX TruStudio and not Dolby Headphones. And yes, they do sound different. Turtle Beach's DSS2 also works but it uses the company's own proprietary virtual surround sound decoder. You can just order a DSS through ebay no? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turtle-Beach-Ear-F...=item3a854598a3 Much cheaper than buying retail even if you could still find one. |

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Sep 24 2013, 03:45 AM) RM1.2k? Hell no. ah, thanks for the feedback. but the main consideration was the included mic.You could pick up a Hifiman HE-400, Beyerdynamic DT990, Philips Fidelio X1 or even a Sennheiser HD650. All of which trounces the 363D that they're not even comparable. any other recommendation? thanks |

QUOTE(hawkk @ Sep 24 2013, 10:02 PM) ah, thanks for the feedback. but the main consideration was the included mic. With a mic? Honestly... it's hard to say. If you absolutely need a mic and don't mind paying so much yet skimping on the audio quality, I'm not necessarily saying the 363D is a bad choice because after all it is just a modified HD595 with a mic on it.any other recommendation? thanks If a mic is absolutely crucial to you, but you still want a better headphone than gaming headsets then sure the 363D fits the bill. Otherwise, I'd suggest you use the RM1.2k on better headphones and get a stand-alone mic instead. |
