Give Feedback on Modern Warfare 2 Via Twitter!



I’ve been advocating the power of Twitter pretty hardcore recently, especially the value in using it as a conversation tool and more importantly tracking those conversations and using the feedback contained within. That philosphy gave birth to http://twitter.infinityward.com . A Twitter web-app for tracking conversations and feedback for Modern Warfare 2 we’ve been developing behind the scenes.

The #MW2 app went live earlier today, and within an hour was already the #2 most talked about topic on Twitter (just behind American Idol). I was blown away with the response to our first question, “Name one thing you’d like to see in Modern Warfare 2″ .

However, the ability to see real-time feedback and conversations about Modern Warfare 2 feeding through the app is only the beginning. The best part is the ability to vote on suggestions and rise in the ranks on the Leaderboards. Allowing us to quickly check the top rated suggestions, and reach out to the users with the best suggestions to hopefully include them in future events, beta tests, or community days.

How can you participate?

First and foremost, you can follow me on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/fourzerotwo) and keep an eye out for the next question. It will also be visible at all times at http://twitter.infinityward.com under CURRENT QUESTION.

When a question is asked, all you have to do is tweet your answer / suggestion along with #MW2 .

What is #MW2?

#MW2 is the official Hashtag for Modern Warfare 2. Which means, anytime I,or anyone else, is talking about Modern Warfare 2 on Twitter, we’ll mark it with #MW2 so it can be tracked and included on the http://twitter.infinityward.com live feed as well as searched for on Twitter.

Once you’ve thrown your suggestion or comment about Modern Warfare 2 into the Live Feed, you can track and vote on other peoples suggestions, and track the top users on the #MW2 Leaderboard. It’s a great way to get recognized in the community and I’ll be using it to identify community members to reach out to in Call of Duty / Infinity Ward future events and projects.

Feedback on the App

This is a fairly unique social media experiment in terms of using it to solicit feedback for game design. So any comments, suggestions, or feedback on how to make the #MW2 app even better is always appreciated. I’m always looking for new ways to reach out to our players and strike up a conversation. Some details have slipped out via an Infinity Ward Twitter page regarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Apparently posted/twittered/tweeted (what is the right way of writing that?) by an IW play tester, the info has since been taken down and the offending twitterer banned and deleted. That could, of course, mean that the details listed after the jump are all nonsense, but we’ve run the info through the patented TVGB bull-o-meter and it smells fine to us.

There are some interesting details to be found on the list, amongst all the boring gun info. Take a look and you’ll find talk of new multiplayer modes, the addition of vehicles, a Halo-skulls style army tags system, a World at War-esque Zombie mode and online/offline co-op. Like we said, it’s interesting rather than surprising and if we were to base our expectations of Modern Warfare 2 on this info alone (a crazy idea, but one we’ll indulge for now), it looks like Infinity Ward are going for consolidation rather than revolution. Which is fine by us.

• Vehicles will be in MW2
• M16 will return, using stopping power will only be OHK at head, neck, and torso
(abdomen, limbs, and hands/feet will not)
• Ak47 and M4 will return, unknown if there are any changes
• M40 will return, ACOG damage boost will be fixed
• Scorpion, P90, M21, R700, G3, G360 will not return
• There are more unknown weapons that will not return
• New sniper rifle: SR25M (United states forces)
• New Assault rifle: Diemeco C8 (Canadian forces M4 equivalent)
• New Assault rifle: L85A2 (United Kingdom forces)
• Total weapons in multiplayer are said to be around 35
• Favourite Modern warfare 1 maps will return
• Helicopters, air strikes, UAV will return
• Red dot sightings will come in different shapes for multiplayer (circular, square, original)
• Snipers will have special grass camouflage (As seen in Modern warfare 1’s campaign)
• All perks will return from MW except eavesdrop and others will be altered
• All gametypes will return from MW and all will have hardcore versions
• New gametype: Secure (Call of duty version of capture the flag, however you capture
the enemy’s Intel)
• New gametype unconfirmed name, similar to search and destroy, however instead of
trying to plant a bomb, you try to kill a specified enemy
• Solider customization for each class (and each country)
• Sniper with silencers will NOT be in multiplayer
• There are NO bots in local multiplayer
• Similar version to Nazi Zombies, however details are unknown
• NO guest players online, 1 player per console
• Killcam save feature
• There is blood and gore
• Offline/Online Co-op
• Story takes place in the Middle East
• Role as US marines return
• Ken Lally voice work in campaign
• Release is set for sometime in November
• New army tags will be available to add different elements in campaign (similar to Halo
skulls)
• Campaign-only weapons

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Looks Incredible, Hits This Holiday

Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is "looking incredible" and will hit this holiday season, according to Activision CFO Thomas Tippl.

Speaking at the Wedbush Morgan Securities annual meeting, Tippl said that Activision's strategy for "leap-frogging development" between two developers has been paying out with back-to-back blockbusters for them.

"Last year we had probably beaten most expert expectations by growing the Call of Duty franchise over the tremendous success that was the first iteration of Modern Warfare," he said. "For 2009, Modern Warfare is coming back, we expect it will be the most anticipated game of the year. Perhaps the number one game of the year despite the fact that it's only going to launch in the holiday season.

"There is no doubt in my mind that it will again raise the bar for the shooter genre.The game is looking incredible and Infinity Ward, the studio that is developing it, is just doing an unbelievable job."
