Quote from TEK9:
Just weeks after the release of Call of Duty: World at War, Activision Blizzard takes yet another step in the Call of Duty series, officially announcing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which is to be released in the fall of 2009.
With this in mind, there is a strong possibility that the developers of the game will be Infinity Ward, who will most likely bring a version out for both the PC and console. This is a very smart move for Activision themselves, but it doesn't look too promising for the online Call of Duty community, who at the moment, are torn between the past and present, spanning actively in Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty: World at War.
This move could potentially kill the Call of Duty scene for good, if not, turn out to be a success for our online community if all parties decide to move onto this game. But as quoted by a user on the MTV Multiplayer web site, this could set the pace of a Call of Duty release each year as the user explains: "The naming convention of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 resulted in a chuckle from me. It is like Final Fantasy X-2. More importantly, who wants to bet that there will be a Call of Duty: World at War 2 now?".
Along with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, announcements were made for Guitar Hero 5, a new Tony Hawk game and a brand new racing title, all to be released later next year. No huge details were released for any of the games.

Activision wants to kill the competitive scene worldwide.
