Will upload more photos here. rclxms.gif

yes, one thing when u go to china,
never buy anything from those kaki 5 peoples.
all con one.
especially jades, pearls.
just ignore them.

if anyone ask u for donation.
ignore only.
dont entertain them anything.
which is like NEVER

and keep ur wallets or valueble goods properly as well ya.
i heard that alot pick pockets there.

as for shopping,
u can bargain like half of their price there.
half or even more.
i mean, not in shopping malls la,
i dont remember where isit. but something like petaling street.
if they dont bargain, den just leave.
unless u really want that item alot.

shenzhen is not really a very developed place like beijing or anything.
people maybe rude there.
especially in crowds, u really gotta act like "tai koh" if not they'll keep cutting ur que like nobody's business.
really have to be firece to them.

i hope this helps,
because me myself experience all these before.
and i never liked shenzhen. sweat.gif

if u going to shenzhen throught zhu hai,
let me know, i'll tell u more experice tongue.gif

Ok-lah..Abit on this city...This is my 2nd trip to this gigantic 4th Largest city in China After Shanghai, Beijing & Guangzhou. 28 years ago, it was just a fishermen village! When I visited it in 1995, the size was about KL or slightly larger wth concentration of highrises at Lou Hu, Dong Meng & abit highrises at the Window of the World.

From what I hv seen last week, the city expandedand currently the population no longer the size of KL but even exceeded Hong Kong population!! Currently ~8million! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World's_l..._agglomerations

My last week visit, I hv planned to goto Dong Meng, Windows of the world & also the border area. However I only managed to cover the border shopping & abit of walking downtown hunting for breakfast blush.gif ..Nevertheless enjoy the shopping experience there.esp the border shopping complex opposite the railway station & nxt to the border complex.

Here're abit of photos of the city taken last Friday:

1) Border complex. On the left is the border shopping complex & on the right is the railway station & Railway hotel (I stayed here 1 nite for RMB200 only!...spacious & clean 3 star hotel thumbup.gif

user posted image

2) Another view now from the border looking at the old city (Not much changes compare to 1995. The city expanded to the right& left, view blocked by the railway hotel building. Obvious changes is the new pedestrian street covering the road below. In 1995, there is no such pedestrian street

user posted image

3) Downtown Shenzhen taken in front of KFC Louhu..Abit of the pinnacle of Sung Hing Plaza at the back of the blue glass tower, currently the tallest buiding in Shenzhen & also one of the tallest in the world (In 1995, it's still under construction based on my old photos):

stimix (or anyone), need ur advise on planning my 1-day trip to Shenzhen (no overnight):

1) The border complex you meant is Lo Wu (Luo Hu) Commercial City? Good to go compare to Dong Men?
2) How long does average time to be spent on Windows of the World and Splendid China?
3) Entrance fee for Windows of the World and Splendid China
4) Anything famous to eat or buy there?

Mind sharing your experience from Zhuhai to Shenzhen? Via bus?

And is there anything interesting in Zhuhai?

I'm planning my HK/MCU/SZ trip for this coming April, just wondering whether I should skip Zhuhai and Guangzhou.

Thanks~

U mean me? Anyway I hv posted abit on what to expect in ZHuhai in the Hong Kong thread also biggrin.gif

For me is the other way round, I choose from Macau>Zhuhai>Guangzhou>Shenzhen>Hong Kong>Macau & thus completed the whole Pearl River Delta major cities.

On bus route, (Also posted earlier), I used the combination of bus & almost bullet train biggrin.gif Here are the breakdown of fare & timing:

1) Zhuhai to Guangzhou - Take the VIP bus from Zhuhai Coach terminal to Guangzhou (RMB75/pax. child =~RMB60) - travel time =2hr 15min wth 3 stops!

2) Guangzhou to Shenzhen - Take the speed train from Guangzhou East train station (there are 2 train stations in Guangzhou subway lines...so dun confused! ) The station located North of the new Tianhe biz ctr where all the highrises located (Also the Coach terminal from Zhuhai) price =RMB75/pax also!! & experience the almost bullet train speed of 200km/hr (Avg ~170km/hr) to shenzhen (time 1 hr only!! thumbup.gif )

So if u going the other way round..probably u can use my similar rides going to those gigantic cities.. biggrin.gif

hmmm,
Zhu Hai was just okok to me.
but no matter where u are going,
just beware of pick pockets and con man la.

to me, im a person who loves theme parks and extreme things la.
in my way of opinion,
Zhu Hai is more about visiting places and just watching those night shows.
not porn la. just like those stunt shows.

its adviseable not to skip because,
travelling is all about at least visit that place once and look at their lifestyle, culture etc.
although its a bad review from me regarding to my china trip,
but everything u just gotta encouter it yourself smile.gif

ur trip for coming April is just exactly the same as mine las year. smile.gif

I haven't been to Dong meng although originally my booked hotel is there... blush.gif last minute changed as I reached Shenzhen pretty late blush.gif So no idea on that walking street. From my experience at Guangzhou Beijing Lu (Also a long pedestrian street shopping district & Zhuhai Lan Hua Lu, really dissapointed wth the shopping offerings....ladis, fashions, shoes & keeps on repeating from shops to shops...U hardly find any souvenirs, electronics there.. sad.gif ...The border mall at Shenzhen atleast hv mixture of everything...electronics, food, ladies, teas & etc biggrin.gif

My suggestion since u are having so many days:

1st day - Get a reasonable hotel in Macau..probably contact the same guy that I pmed u b4 (But dun choose the New Century hotel in Taipa island (Pretty far from Macau Peninsular) Get those hotels closer to Senado square & etc

2nd Day: Continue sight seeing in Macau (Spend more time out of the historic enclave..probably to Ah Ma temple, Maritime Museum or even take a Public bus to Taipa/ Colloane island...ehhhh now already becoming one after they built the Venetian Casino in the middle of the strait biggrin.gif

end of 2nd day...Check-in to Yong Tong Hotel (RMB230 - on top of Zhuhai bus terminal/ KFC) or the closer to the border (Jingye hotel (RMB190)...shop till u drop at the underground Gongbei gigantic Landmark shopping complex. thereafter continue to Lian Hua lu..street shoppings..lotsa ladies & fashion related stalls here..(~2Km long & 1 big loop back to Gongbei border....be prepared for leg cramped!)

3rd day..probably take a taxi or local bus to the the lady of the sea statue & also the sea park along Zhuhai..Thereafter check-out & buy afternoon bus ticket to Guangzhou (Super VIP bus =RMB75) - 2.5hr to Guangzhou Tianhe bus terminal (i.e opposite the gigantic Tianhe stadium) ..U can either look for hotel around this biz district & thereafter continue to shop at the Teemall & adjacent Granview mall (One of the largest in the world - for me smaller than Sunway Pyramid hmm.gif )

4th day....take the super efficient Guangzhiu underground MRT to all the tourist attractions in Guangzhou such as Chan Clan House, The emperor museum & the famous park opposite the museum, Guangzhou Pagoda, Guangzhou mosque, & must not be miss the Beijing Lu shopping...If more time, probably another MRT ride down South to Updown 9 road (San Sia Chiew Lu) shopping street, Collonial island of Guangzhou

End of 4th day - take the MRT directly to the Guangzhou East railway station (There are 2 railway stations so pls dun confuse - This East one going to Shenzhen. The main station goes to other part of China) - 1hr to Shenzhen & experience the 200km/hr ride on the speed train that pawned our ERL! biggrin.gif Check-in to Railway station hotel on top of the railway station itself (RMB200/nite). Shopping at the opposite but joined border shopping complex..

5th day - Take the shenzhen MRT to Window of the world/Splendid china or even shopping at Dong Men street. Mid of 5th day cross over to Hong Kong Stop at Mongkok station & - SHop at Lady /Tung Choi st (They opened Mid-day till late at nite), Probably check-in to your hotel at Mongkok (Chk recommendation in HK thread). Goto Temple st for nite shopping

6th day - Check-out & take the MTR to the Tsim Tsa Sui east station...and visit the Arena of Star (Something like the Hollywood walk of fame...take lotsa picture & spot all your famous actors & actresses feet/hand prints!...See the whole Hong Kong island from the arena of Star. Mid day, goto the Peak at Hong Kong Island & view Hong Kong from the top of the peak. Evening - take the ferry to Macau & check-in to New Century Hotel (~2km from Airport)

7th day-- Bye-bye to Pearl River Delta

Tourism info is lacking in China compare to HK & Macau. Yes do more research & survey.

Check this website. http://www.chinahotel.com.cn/ It's up to you to book, bcos I did book using them on Dong Men hotel at Shenzhen but I FFK that nite. instead of going to Dong Men, I decided to walk-in to railway hotel. (Hehe..they don't insist on deposit or full payment!

Boyz..I got reminder & warning from them after I came bck!

Yes Dongguan i very near Guangzhou..so in the middle betwwwn Shanzhen & Zhuhai.

No problem going via Macau..thereafter take the public buses to Zhuhai 7 from Zhuhai to Shenzhen via speed train. Otherwise, there's bferry service to Shanzhen from Zhuhai too.

In Zhuhai, I stayed at Yong Tong Hotel (opposite border 7 on top of Zhuhai bus terminal. & in Shenzhen, Railway station hotel (on top of Shenzhen Railway station..the nearest hotel beside Hong kong border)

You can apply from china embassy in malaysia, same building with bank of china in ampang.
All you need is original passport, photo and money. Remember to check their working hour, if not mistaken they open from 9 to 11am for visa application.

If i were you, i would settle everything in Malaysia 1st before going abroad. You can have more time exploring HK rather than wasting time to get your Visa. Perhaps your travel time is not a peak period, but you never know how the queue would become. You may also engage a local travel agency to settle for you, but of course with a small fee. I can't recommend the one that did for me to you cos it's in KK. tongue.gif

BTW, you guys may try out Days Hotel in Luohu. Superb room and reasonable price. 1 room with 2 single beds can fit 4 persons comfortably. Very near to Luohu metro/railway station. Some pics here:

Don't apply in HK because it is more expensive. I'm not sure about applying in China embassy in HK but through tourist agency you probably need to pay about HKD800 for double entry.

Go by yourselve..The whole city having superb MRT & hi-speed train connections to all main shopping district & major tourist attractions including Windows of the world & Splendid China...If u feel boring of shenzhen, just walk across to Hong Kong for day trip or a 50min hi-speed train ride from Shenzhen to Guangzhou..

Like I said, I know nothing about shenzhen.

I probably could explore it while I am there but it would be too costly.
I am trying to make my trip short and save money.

Which is the best economical hotel do u recommend ?

What is Luo Hu street famous for ?

How far is shenzhen city center from the shenzhen airport that Airasia will arrive on ?

How far is shenzhen from macao if we take the high speed train ?

After reading some post, I am a bit scared because so many beggars and con-men. I am an innocent guy. cry.gif

The cheapest way is by DIY trip but you need to do abit of research. Package is way more expensive,

Which is the best economical hotel do u recommend ?
There are lotsa hotels at Luo Hu (The central train station & main HK-shenzhen border crossing) & Dongmen (The shopping district North of Lou Hu). If u want convenient, staying at Lou Hu might be a good idea. - I walk-in & stayed at the Railway Hotel located on top of the raiway station- RMB200/nite -3 star rated hotel.

What is Luo Hu street famous for ?
Loa Hu - Border crossing & train station, Shangrila, more hotels + 1 gigantic shopping mall...Nothing much there. Dong Meng - shoppings district

How far is shenzhen city center from the shenzhen airport that Airasia will arrive on ?
Shenzhen Bao'an airport is about 40km away from Lou Hu. from using google earth measurement. It's even further than the already far Windows of the world. Located at the far western side from the city

How far is shenzhen from macao if we take the high speed train ?
There is no hi-speed train direct to Macau from Shenzhen. Your only option is via ferry from Shenzhen port to Macau or via express bus.

After reading some post, I am a bit scared because so many beggars and con-men. I am an innocent guy. cry.gif
Why so scare..I'm banana & can't read chinese & yet able to travel easily around Pearl river delta..

I plan to visit ShenZhen for a day trip from HongKong.

As a Malaysian, do I need to apply for the visa even though just for a day? How much will it cost if I apply at the border?

yes you need to apply VISA for at the shenzhen border. i personally have applied at the border but it's more expensive if you do it there so it's better to do at here for like RM30 (single entry, 1 month duration), but if you want to save hassle and do it on the custom office upon arrival then prepare some RMB notes as they don't accept HKD$ (not sure if rules have been chged though). i forgot about price but i hope this helps.

anyone has railway station's contact or the chinese name? because i can't find any online hotel website for bookings?

i'm interested to book this Shenzhen Railway Station Hotel. Any more information? i'm also unable to find any reference to it using google.

Will reach Shen Zhen on Saturday so might be better to book a room there 1st...

the other option i have is Shenzhen LOFT International Youth Hostel which is like 15-20 mins walk from the nearest metro station and splendid china.

I read from some magazine that Shen zhen is a place that we can go on any months based on the weather, is it true? will it be very warm during mid Aug?

My family is planning to go back to my grandpa hometown (Shen Zhen) on next year...

I wonder if anyone has Shenzhen's railway station Hotel contact?

I want to book a room with them but i cant seem to find anyway to make booking (online or phone).

The day I reach Shenzhen is a public holiday in Hongkong (Good Friday) so it'll be a peak season. I'm just afraid that it'll be fully booked.

I have a question. Can the room in Shenzhen Railway Hotel fit 3 adults? Are the beds (i believe twin beds) fit 3 adults?

If they are like the beds shown by Argiope for "Days Hotel Luohu Shenzhen" then should be fine.

Should not be a problem ..spacious for a RMB200/nite room:

This is their double bedded room of the rear side of Railway hotel.

Walk-in will do.

I'll be going to Shenzhen after visiting Hong Kong.

I have one question.

Is there a shuttle bus to the Shenzhen Bao'an International airport from Luo Hu Railway station? I plan to stay at Railway Station Hotel (highly recommended by stimx-thanks!) which is near Luohu Railway Station.

According to this site , there's a shuttle bus (K568) from airport to Luohu Railway Station (starting from 8am). My departure time is 11.15am. But i'm not sure if this bus goes to the airport. Anyone can help? Thanks in advance.

Dun worry-lah, there are lotsa ground transport available near the gigantic immigration, Railway station & the Lohu Mall The bus terminal is located opposite the railway station & beside the end of Lohu Mall.

From google, the correct bus is K568, but from my experience, there are more buses rathe than the on recommended

In 2008, I did the 5 cities tour within 4D3N haha..Bypassing 2 cities without staing i.e HK & Guangzhou.. smile.gif If you read earlier posting, I stayed at Railway hotel Shenzhen..right on top of lowu station..read past postings or goto Macau & hong Kong threads too..lotsa discussion on hotels & even attractions..in Shenzhen the only attractions are Windows of the world, Little China (I think)..Dongmen shopping & Lowu shoppings...Nothing else..so 1 week in Shenzhen for what..Go out from that city-lah..Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Macau? All within 150km apart...just like KL to melaka..sumore wth the bullet train from Shenzhen To guangzhou only take 1 hr leh..

Your route planning abit odd..Zhuhai direct to Shenzhen bypassing Guangzhou? Why not Macau>Zhuhai>Guangzhou>Shenzhen>Hong Kong & thereafter back to Zhuhai. Make more sense..wth one complete loop?

Currency yes - HK dollar. well accepted in Macau. However they will change small notes to MOP. Try to use all the MOP as you will find it's difficult to change to RM once you're back.
RMB for sure if you are entering China

To bring US$, well, in Macau airport, you can actually change RM to MOP. Not sure outside the airport. The rate although not as good but it's OK. I change all my leftover MOP to RM at the airport just b4 departure. The rate actually not bad.

Normally instead of bringinmg xtra cash (Like u said US$) might as well change more HK$ or activate your ATM to withdraw RMB, MOP of even HK$

Guys, anyone tried from Hong Kong airport to Shenzhen ( Luo Hu) ? I will be arriving in HKG ard 6pm and looking the quickest way there with the minimum hassle.

And still wondering which hotel to get with estimate budget of Rm100-150.
Was looking at Lee Garden here and only need a deposit of 10%. I wonder is this site safe? They charges $258rmb which is good. But looking at airasiago hotel booking site they charge Rm160 and need to pay full amount. I wonder which 1 would you go for?

Really need your opinion as im booking though this kind of booking site for the first time . Thanks biggrin.gif

From SZ which station/area ?

From LoWu / Lok Ma Chau, MTR all the way to Hung Hom, need at least 30-40 minutes.
Make sure don't accidentally enter into the first-class sitting-coach.

No. MTR use Octopus similiar like our Touch'nGo.
Need to buy at machine/counter.
Last I check all the way to Causeway Bay is HKD43+ one-way blink.gif
If you plan to go back to SZ for flight home, get the HKD85 ticket with two-way return + 1 day unlimited MTR.
Valid at both LoWu/LokMaChau.
Check properly with the counter on which is more worth it.

To Mongkok, you need to change MTR at Kowloon Tong to the green line. Estimate 30 minutes ride, not including the Metro ride at SZ (if any).

Yes, immigration will be super packed during peak hours and if weekend/holiday.
Normal hours will still a lot of people crossing border.

For you to compare, on a normal working day Thursday, From SZ->HK crossing both border controls, it took me 1 hour at non-peak time (10am+), just to cross both immigration. Not yet count train ride.

Hi all,

My flight arrive in shenzhen morning 10.30am. My hotel will be at Luohu-dongmen area. My visit attraction will be window of the world & Splendid China.
So It will be more convenience if i direct go to Window of the world first than check in to my hotel. As i saw previous comment, it is quite far from dongmen to window of the world again.
But how about my luaggage? Any place for luaggage at window of the world or Splendid China?
Need your advise pls....

thanks

The border can get busy but I rarely wait more than 10-15 mins queuing at either side - I just avoid evening and early mornings.

I always fly out of HK then go SZ and stay there - normally take the Airport Bus to Sheung Shui (A34) costs 36 HKD to there, and then only 1 stop on the train from there.

Same for way back - train to Lo Wu then change to A34 outside Sheung Shui station. Often the train from Lo Wu is busy and can't get a seat - at least on the bus normally always get seat - and no need to pay for expensive Airport Express train smile.gif

Last time old lady (50-60+) next to me on the train from Sheung Shui was busy packing about 25 Galaxy Note 2 handsets into handbag/shopping bag to take across the border rclxms.gif

Just enjoy your holiday. You don't need real-time report on your trip or what you eat or shop (or Dongguan if you are a guy) to everyone online.

Not all establishment can use CC-lah.. Street market - depending. If big stall, sometime they does hav but they will charge the 2-3% ..Exchange rate I did not try yet & so do withdrawing from Chinese banks so far.. Anyway, just treat Chinese city as modern than KL can liao.. Which is true fact at this moment of fact, Do not think China is like 15 yrs ago biggrin.gif

The whole area within and after you cross HK border itself already a shopping paradise... That 5-6 storey high shopping complex beside the HK border probably one of the oldest shopping Mall in Shenzhen It's already there when 1 1st visited Shenxhen in early 90's and the same mall during my recent trip in 2008.

Further down the train stn toward Dongmen st is the main pedestrian shopping district. But most ppl visit Shenzhen for the miniature "Windows of the World', Splendid China & etc..

Shenzhen from what I saw in early 90's & now totally diff place dy. During the early 90's, Shenzhen was just the size of KL..Yeah that time was my 1st time experiencing Chinese cities.. lotsa beggars, street peddalrs surrounding ypu to sell you fruits & souvenirs and once you but from one fella, another 10-20 will surround you and the fashion during the early 90s' totally rubbish and a joke if you compare to KL or HK during that time..Now... so modern...and the city is no longer concentrated just on Lohu area...now sea of skyscrappers dotting the whole area for the next 20km radius out from the border of HK..

I like windows of the world and splendid china, but my tour guide only gave us 2 hours at WoW. Damn, have to walk briskly from one stop to another to cover all mini buildings. Pose, snap photo, next!

About 3rd/4th floor

Shenzhen is quite easy to walk/MTR around, similiar like HK. You can DIY free & easy next time wink.gif
Even the cab fare is reasonable.

From luo hu can take train to guangzhou, and have to stop at guangzhou east station?

because i book 7 days flight so staying 6 nights, should i stay 1 night in guangzgou?

& planning to take 1 day to visit window Of world & happy valley on another day.. means i got around 4-5 full day left, might go to HK might not because i never been to guangzhou before & went to HK last year

want to ask.. if i fly to shenzhen.. then from shenzhen to go HK.. then back to shenzhen.. i have to apply 2 visa?
*
QUOTE(stimix @ Mar 29 2013, 09:53 AM)
Yes. It's consider 2 time entries already. Single entry to Shenzhen, out to HK and enter back again 2nd time.
*
QUOTE(samlee860407 @ Mar 29 2013, 09:54 AM)
need to apply for multiple entry visa
*
I went to Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong with one visa. Consider Hong Kong is China's only that makes it Special Administrative Region. But from Shenzhen if via train to Hong Kong you have to bring along your passport and fill up immigration form at the immigration there.

QUOTE(AngelLingLing @ Mar 29 2013, 10:07 AM)
And after reading this thread i saw that best place to shop is in luo hu & lao jie area...

From luo hu can take train to guangzhou, and have to stop at guangzhou east station?

because i book 7 days flight so staying 6 nights, should i stay 1 night in guangzgou?

& planning to take 1 day to visit window Of world & happy valley on another day.. means i got around 4-5 full day left, might go to HK might not because i never been to guangzhou before & went to HK last year

and i saw that many advise that direct walk in will do to do hotel booking.. but how if no room? >.<

she's going into Shenzhen 1st. if she exit shenzhen to HK, and she only do 1 time Visa, she cannot enter back SHenzhen again unless she do her visa again at the border

If however, she going into HK 1st, then enter shenzhen, then back to HK, then she just need the normal 1 time visa

different case.

Lol. I was with other 30 colleagues. Overlook all the 30 of us? Ain't possible though.

I entered China from Guangzhou. Then we stayed at Shenzhen. Later visited Hong Kong for a day trip and went back to Shenzhen. Few days later moved and stayed in Guangzhou before departed home.

I am traveling to Shenzhen in Mar 2014, 2.5 months down the road with my mother, 1 cousin and 4 aunties. We are staying here for 5 days, including visit our relative.

I am having headache on how to organize this trip as most of my aunties cannot walk too far, need advise if you know any private transport (van) that are reasonable price? I tried quote from 1 travel agency, they charge RMB1200 per day for 10 hours.

Should i just engaged with local tour or i should organize the itinerary ?

Need help and advise, thanks in advance.
