QUOTE(zellleonhart @ Jan 24 2009, 08:59 PM) What is resistive touch screen and multitouch screen? Multitouch means can touch 2 diffren positions? Allow me. Put simply, a capacitive touchscreen works by pin pointing where the electric charge is discharged on the screen when a conductor is in contact with the screen, like metal or skin. Pros, multi touch(yes, touch at multiple positions at once) is possible. Cons, only conductors registers a touch. Resistive touchscreen have two layers. When you press on the screen these two layers touch, making it more resistive to current, therefore the computer calculates where resistance is happening and registers it as a touch at that co-ordinate. Pros, anything can be used to operate. Cons, no multi-touch and somewhat less sensitive. This post has been edited by tunertoobe: Jan 24 2009, 09:15 PM

OMG, the transition from upright to landscape, does it really do that?! In another video, the phone seems big though. This post has been edited by tunertoobe: Feb 16 2009, 06:11 PM

From the other video though, the transition still involves the screen refreshing instead of the items rearranging.

This phone would really suit my father. He is on the go most days of the year overseas. He checks on his e-mails almost everyday and it's nuisance having to use a laptop everytime he's on the move. With this, even overseas, he'll just have to look for a WiFi spot and go online. He can type e-mails faster with a physical qwerty keyboard. Plus with his title, this phone really suits what he is in his work, instead of his current SE K550i. I would also want one myself but it will only be solely an impulse purchase.

Why the hell did they choose a 128MB ram, same as the MID-END 5800? Most would be satisfied with double that. Symbian's knowledge in coding their OS to run fairly smoothly on a relatively weak hardware is good, but using that little RAM and an aneamic processor speed seems to push it a little too far for a high-end device, especially when it was designed to do pretty much EVERYTHING.
The 5800 I think is pushing the limit already. Most users are content, but anymore lag and they'll(well including me) snap!

If you're into 3d gaming on mobile phones, there are other more affordable options which might do the job better.
It's too early to tell what kind of "magic" Nokia has put into the N97 until they are brave enough to compete in the high-end market with mediocre hardware. We'll just have to wait and see.

QUOTE(chicaman @ May 8 2009, 09:11 PM) Too bad the processor and ram is not that great~ Yeah. But we'll just have to wait and see what kind of magic touch Symbian has put in or some mystery hardware spec Nokia had reserved until true launch(I doubt there is any). QUOTE(christcwl9 @ May 8 2009, 11:44 PM) wa...sooooo exxxpeeeennnnsiiiiiiivvveeeeeeeeeeeeee la!!!! i rather buy a laptop ar....lol Expensive? Actually I'm rather baffled. USD454 seems too good to be true. I searched around and the N95 back then debuted in the US for USD700. This post has been edited by tunertoobe: May 9 2009, 08:36 AM

Oh, still the same price of the N95 when it was debuted in the US, USD700. Just shows how cheap technology nowadays are.

If this phone runs smooth with little presence of its mediocre hardware, I'll have new respect for both Symbian and Nokia.

QUOTE(hyakushiki84 @ Jun 9 2009, 01:04 AM) my my...... this phone is a beauty !!! the price range is quite alright too at first, expected the price would reach close to RM3k..... I was expecting thay as well. It's weird that the N95, the former flagship was 3k, with no touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard.

Comparing the N97 and 5800 side by side, which one is faster? Or are they equal in terms of speed and responsiveness?
Anyone owning it can test?
Both have the same amount of RAM, just that the N97 has a slightly higher clock speed for its CPU. SHould be interesting to see what Symbian was able to do with the N97.

QUOTE(toughnut @ Jun 10 2009, 08:51 AM) Both N97 and 5800 utilize similar processor, just different clockspeed (can be changed via firmware updates). OIC. Anyway we can hack it ourselves? Off topic, nevermind. My father is very interested. It's got everything he needs, decent camera, great e-mail capabilities, fast connection(3G and above), WiFi, QWERTY keyboard(unlike the E series, to him, this one's friendlier), got Lotus Notes and ability to view(and possibly edit) MS Office files.

Well for that price, you win some and you lose some. Great price for functionality, slight build quality sacrifices would have to be done. Maybe it's only us, maybe it won't break and it'll last. Some things seems that way, like an old tree on the side of a cliff, no one knows how long that thing has been up there, but it's old.
