Weird. correct me if i'm wrong, Tube has higher resolution screen than N97?

I dont think this phone has multitouch, different type of touchscreen panel compared to iPhone. Resistive vs capacitive.

in car - i run 3 apps minimum.
a) fm transmitter
b) my music player playing my fav mp3's in my car stereo
c) gmxt - coz i prefer to hear the sexy voices thru my car stereo instead of the small speakers.

then i have themes installed for cosmetic reasoning. and i have fon calls and sms coming in for thats the main purpose of a phone.
the breathing lights are on, coz i like it and its funky. and also auto rotate is on for a better view of gps nav.

Function a + b + c make the phone lag? That's new to me... On my current old N95, running music player, browser and GMXT wont cause any lag, just sudden app shutdown due to limited 28MB ram.

btw, theme wont cause any significant impact in ram or cpu usage unless it's badly optimized with big umcompressed image file.

pros:
-great sliding mechanism. feels very solid and slick. slide motion is quite addictive.
-great interface, can match the iphone. very good cues in input methods and buttons.
-ability to run widgets is really cool.
-gorgeous web browser.
-responsiveness is satisfactory. i doubt it will remain this way if you max out the 32gb though.
-ability to customize your content display on the standby screen is awesome. ability to add applications and widgets onto the standby screen is pretty cool.
-if i'm not wrong, sound quality on this device is better than my previous n82. or maybe its just because of my mylar bijou earphones lol.
-qwerty keyboard is gorgeous. feels good and solid. very nice matte finish.
-can charge via usb. meaning i dont need to carry a charger around, just the usb cable. (like ipods)

cons:
-inability to scroll. in the menus, you cant swipe the touchscreen to scroll, like the iphone. you have to use the scroll bar at the side which is quite a pain. same goes for contacts. the scroll bar is too small and it isn't precise.
-camera's image quality is mediocre. or maybe i'm just too used to slr quality.
-position of the call and end call buttons abit weird. even weirder that they're touch buttons. would have preferred normal buttons cos you can feel and be sure of the response once you press it.
-position of the menu button abit weird too, also because its the only non-touch button on the front. nevertheless i'm sure these are all things that take some getting-used-to. shouldnt be a major issue.
-i'm currently experiencing some BIG issue with my keyguard switch. a few times already it suddenly stopped working and i had to take out the battery and restart my phone. after that then ok already. not sure if it is a manufacturing defect or a software problem. damn pissing off. if it persists, i will check with nokia centre later.
I replace my N95 with 5800 last week and the SQ a lot better than N95, N82 and N81 i tested. From the review i read, N97 is better than 5800 in term of headphone output (5800 lack power to drive high impedance earphone) and cleanliness. 5800 hiss a lot less, almost none, when compared to those N's i mentioned. 5800 actually hiss less than my Sony mp3 player (maybe cuz 5800 max volume isnt loud enough to expose those hisses)

@ashleighhhh

how about the battery life ? Moderate usage like Sms , make a few calls which last around 5 to 10 mins each, capturing few images, and some mp3 session. I am pissed off by the N96 BL-5F, which doesn't last for one full day with moderate use.
*
5800 use 1320mah battery and it can last at least 3days based on my usage (V21 firmware). 3-4 HOURS wifi with Opera, 20-30 sms, 2-5 minutes calls, taking bunch of photos with/without flash, 1+ hour playing games (addicted to UNO currently), listened to music via headphone for 1+hour and via loudspeaker for 1+ hour. If u add in 1 hour of GPS and movie session each, it still can last u a day easily. N97 use the monster 1500mah.

like to ask did the QWERTY keyboard have a Backlit Keyboard

or u cant even type the keyboard in the dark area ?

Yes. Different backlight color for white and black model. Google for pictures...

QUOTE(peeky @ Jun 9 2009, 08:40 PM)
one question ... can u install garmin into the n97 ?
*
5800 is the launching pad for S60v4. All software compatible on 5800 should work similarly on N97.

Both N97 and 5800 utilize similar processor, just different clockspeed (can be changed via firmware updates).

are you sure firmware update can change hardware spec ??  blink.gif  you must be kidding...

N97  ARM11 CPU with clock speed at 434 MHz
5800 ARM11 CPU with clock speed at 369 MHz

No, i'm not smile.gif

Those ARM cpu is rated to reach excess of 500MHz iirc. Just downclocked to balance between power consumption and battery life.

In case u didnt know, N95 cpu speed was bumped too in their last few firmwares. Same goes with iPhone/touch cases.

what? No ! They only minimized the ram usage of other system applications to make it run smoother. There is NO SUCH THING as improving cpu speed via firmware updates
*
Sorry for the earlier info.

N95 does have cpu speed changed, it's throttled to reduce battery consumption. That's why newer firmware have better battery life. My mistake on that.

iPhone have slower cpu than itouch although both identical CPU. Applied for 3G iPhone versus Touch 2G (similar generation).

Regarding N97/5800 similar cpu, i forgot where i read it but they clearly show the ARM11 CPU as it's from FCC. I will try to search for it.

act they set the cpu running speed in the firmware. let say the arm11 cpu might act run at 600mhz. they might set in the first firmware at 300mhz and after sometime they manage to figure out how to enhance batteries life more while still allowing the cpu to run faster. so they will set in the firmware the cpu speed to maybe 400mhz..

it's possible and a common thing.
*
But sadly many uninformed people think i'm joking lol laugh.gif

Anyway, just ignore what i mentioned previously bout the cpu speed.

Even in the 5800, the CPU, some sort of Freescale something, supports up to 532Mhz, just the firmware/OS limits it to 369..

Btw, 600 cannot la, since max clock is 532...

Check out pdadb.com for more info

Thanks for the info.

Finally found it, Freescale MXC300-30.

Afaik, B&O doesnt worth the money, if at those price bracket. There are other better options for quality earphone at rm800-1000. Ultimateears, westones, Phonak, Denon, etc
