Malaysia is much more important market in east Asia for Nokia than you think.
Delays are normal but I think it's better to give a good reliable product which is what makes Nokia Nokia, rather than an inferior product.
But of course delays will only hurt the company.

If I were to get this, it must be because I wanna use the services. As in, being online as it happens.
Not sure about Samsung's though?

I just had a playaround with the phone today.
Surprised myself and has so far exceeded my expectations. Still lots of improvements needed though.
But I'm always very critical and a skeptic.
One thing I noticed is to never open the slide with one hand (left hand), cause I nearly dropped it.
But opening it in landscape mode with both thumbs feel good. Sturdy hinge.

I'm a Malaysian in Germany, working at Nokia. That's all I can reveal though. Nothing else specific that you can't find at other information sources which has N97 for demo.

QUOTE(tunertoobe @ May 14 2009, 05:57 PM) Can you ask Nokia, why 128MB ram for an RM3k device??? No, I can't. But I'll admit though, the internals a bit outdated. But from me as a user perspective and from demo units, I'm quite impressed. I even demoed 5800 XpressMusic again and found it actually quite good despite my skepticism when it first launched. But anyway, I'll still reserve most judgments until the real sales unit is launched. Then I'll prepare my hard-earned cash. It's not long now though, and I hope that everything goes smoothly. Not sure when's it gonna be available in Malaysia, but I can say, start saving up now. It'll be sooner than you think.

QUOTE(goldfries @ May 21 2009, 12:04 PM) I'm not sure which build you have there. But what are your thoughts on the hinge mechanism? However, I think you should have the latest one since it was used in a closed preview for non employees. I tried an older build and it is surprisingly sturdy. I am excited with this device and it's coming along nicely for a June launch. I think I need to change my contract to accommodate the services. Did you manage to test other services besides Facebook? I didn't have the chance because of the older build I had.

QUOTE(goldfries @ May 21 2009, 09:48 PM) it's sturdy indeed. i kept playing with it cos it gives a really solid feel as it slides open. tested generally the browser, the phone, the facebook widget, then seen a few others but they look like mostly RSS. i hope to be able to get a unit and develop my own widget, see how it goes. oh yeah there's the maps, version 2.0. said to have version 3.0 coming. it's good, way better than the maps on my N81 which i couldn't be bothered to use. Added on May 22, 2009, 3:51 aminvited to the launch already......... early June. feels like X5800 la. no stylus la so i navigate with finger all the way for the most part. feels smooth, you know la the screen for touch devices, slide the finger and it flips and all, like BB and Iphone. I see. The marketing is pushing on the upgradeability of this device. There are exciting plans internally which I cannot reveal here. I guess it is now without a doubt, I have to pecah tabung soon.

QUOTE(the100308 @ May 24 2009, 10:34 AM) I donou, they just say, for a powerful phone liek this, processor should be very powerful too so no lagness at all. But reviewers are disappointed with them. I, for one, had demoed the device with latest firmware and I find it pretty responsive, even more than an iPhone. And I was surprised actually. I'm a skeptic by nature. However, the scrolling isn't as smooth as iPhone though, but webpages renders quickly. I think it is because of the difference in touchscreen technology used. Processor speed isn't everything, if the software is not optimized for it. Such as most of the Samsung touch devices I had tried.

First clue up on symbian.smashpop.net!
I think Malaysia's contest quite simple since only 1 website is promoting it.
Good luck to you all!
*Damn me for being a Nokia employee.

QUOTE(mannquin @ Jun 3 2009, 11:08 AM) I shouldn't have joined this contest in the 1st place. I felt shocked when I found somewhere that about 4 of the finalists are smashpop's friends. If you were me, don't you feel weird? Glad to know cronyism is alive and well in Malaysia. *sarcasm But then, I would give him the benefit of doubt until you can quote the source credibly.

Congrats to those who won!
We're having contests internally as well to win N97. Can't believe the excitement even though we have more exciting products coming.
Really hope I get the chance to win one myself.
